Abstract

Research Aims: This study aimed to determine the direct influence of communication style and individual competence on female principals' empowering leadership and performance in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach: The respondents of this study were 220 teachers from 3 accredited high schools with female principals in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The questionnaire was analysed using structural equation modelling with AMOS to determine the relationship between variables and using Sobel Test to test leadership as a mediating variable. Research findings: The results of this study show that communication style and competence have a positive and significant effect on leadership and performance, leadership has a significant effect on performance, and leadership acts as a mediating variable. The results also indicate that gender acts as a moderating variable by strengthening the relationship between leadership and principal performance. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: The contribution of this study is to develop and examine the direct and indirect relationship between communication style, competence, gender, leadership, and performance of principals. Managerial Implication in the South East Asian Context: The results of this study can help principals design effective leadership development programs by selecting the appropriate leadership style to improve the performance of school principals. Research limitation & Implications: This research is limited by the number of respondents and the number of predictor variables of leadership and performance. This research has important implications for future research on the joint effects of contextual factors, personal characteristics, and social network attributes in the gendering leadership in the education sector.

Abstract

The pandemic period led to changes in learning methods. One of the learning methods that are effective now is the direct learning method (Synchronous Learning) and the indirect method (Unsynchronous Learning). Perambanan Social Vocational High School 1 has developed the learning system but has yet to maximize learning media development. Therefore, there is a need for training and workshops to increase teachers' knowledge to solve the problems encountered related to making learning media. The service is carried out through several stages: identifying activities, planning and implementing activities, follow-up and evaluation, and preparing reports. The results of the service show that participants not only have the ability to develop learning media but also have a deeper understanding of the benefits of technology in learning. The teachers involved are expected to strengthen their abilities in developing creative and relevant learning content according to the needs of students. This effort can potentially improve the quality of learning, expand accessibility for students to learn flexibly, and present a more interactive and exciting learning experience.

Abstract

E-commerce has become one of the most widely used digital applications globally, enabling personalized product discovery and purchasing. To support these services, recommender systems are essential, offering item suggestions based on user preferences. Most recommender systems rely on machine learning algorithms to estimate user-item relevance scores, often utilizing product ratings. However, a persistent challenge in this domain is the issue of data sparsity, where only a small fraction of users provides explicit ratings, leading to reduced accuracy in recommendation results. In this study, we introduce a novel hybrid recommendation algorithm, named AMIKOM-RECSYS, designed to address the sparsity problem and enhance rating prediction. Our model integrates three main components included a Large Language Model (LLM) using ChatGPT, a Transformer-based encoder (BERT), and Probabilistic Matrix Factorization (PMF). The LLM generates descriptive information about movies based on specific prompts, which is then passed to BERT to encode the content into meaningful 2D vector representations. These enriched embeddings are subsequently utilized by the PMF algorithm to predict missing user-item ratings. We evaluate the proposed model on two benchmark datasets, ML-1M and ML-10M using Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) as the evaluation metric. The AMIKOM-RECSYS model achieved RMSE values of 0.8681 on ML-1M and 0.7791 on ML-10M under a 50:50 data split, outperforming several baseline models including CNN-PMF, LSTM-PMF, and Attention-PMF. These results highlight the effectiveness of integrating LLM and Transformer-based contextual understanding into matrix factorization frameworks. In future work, we plan to extend this framework by incorporating other matrix factorization techniques such as Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) and integrating additional sources of user information, including social media activity, to further improve recommendation performance.

Abstract

Wayang kulit merupakan warisan budaya Indonesia yang sepatutnya dilestarikan oleh seluruh generasi. Keunikan dari kesenian wayang kulit tidak akan ditemukan di belahan bumi manapun kecuali Indonesia. Fokus pada studi ini adalah mengukur tingkat penerimaan mahasiswa terhadap pementasan wayang di Universitas Amikom Yogyakarta. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengukur korelasi dan keterkaitan dua variabel yaitu variabel ketertarikan terhadap wayang dengan jenis kelamin mahasiswa. Adapun analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif dengan mengambil sejumlah sample mahasiswa yang turut hadir menyaksikan pementasan wayang di Univeristas Amikom Yogyakarta. Metode penelitian pada studi ini adalah menggunakan metode kuantitatif, dengan jumlah sampel adalah 50 mahasiswa yang melihat pementasan wayang, analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan nilai pearson correlatin<alpha maka variabel ini cukup valid dalam penelitian ini. Selanjutya nilai  Cronbach's Alphaa adalah >dibanding nilai dasar keputusan Cronbach's Alphaa  sebesar 0.6, maka variabel ini sangat reliable dalam penelitian ini. Berdasaarkan nilai r tabel maka df(50-2,0,05) sehingga df=48, 0.05 artinya nilai r pada r tabel adalah baris 48 pada alpha 0.05 sebesar 2,010635. Sehingga nilai r>nilai Pearson Corrlation, artinya tidak ada hubungan sigantara variabel jenis kelamin mahasiswa dengan ketertarikan melihat wayang siswa yang dilaksanakan di Universitas Amikom Yogyakarta.Berdasarkan hasil uji t didapatkan hasil t adalah 19.902, nilai p adalah 0,00 sehingga 19.902>0.05 hal ini memberikan asumsi bahwa terdapat perbedaan signifikan antara ketertarikan melihat wayang siswa dengan jenis kelamin mahasiswa.
