Abstract

The purpose of this research was to assess the effect of Discovery Learning Method and motivation of writing ability in descriptive text especially writing about pet animal at the tenth grade of SMAN 20 Palembang. As many as 72 students took the sample. The sampling technique was the tenth grade of students at the SMAN 20 Palembang, the data collection was done by distributing questionnaires on a 5-point likert scale with 15 statements. The analysis method used the normality test, homogeneity test and the two-way ANOVA. The researcher used the two-way ANOVA, to know the interaction effect between independent variable and dependent variable. The results showed that motivation between the experimental group and control group had a difference. The students wrote the descriptive text, they were taught using the discovery learning Method and had a significant increase on students’ writing ability in traditional teaching.

Abstract

Indonesia ranks third among countries with the highest tuberculosis (TB) cases worldwide. Pneumonia also stands as a leading cause of death among infants in developing nations. The delay in diagnosing and the challenges in distinguishing TB and pneumonia have significant impacts on elevated morbidity and mortality rates. Both Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR) and Monocyte-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (MLR) serve as inflammatory biomarkers utilized for rapid and straightforward bacteremia evaluation. This study aimed to analyze the difference between NLR and MLR in diagnosing of TB and pneumonia in children. This study was retrospective cross-sectional research utilizing secondary data at the time of initial diagnosis by a clinician as TB or pneumonia. Subjects with TB and/or pneumonia were treated at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital, Makassar from January 2017 to December 2021. The research sample consisted of 150 patients with pediatric patients with pneumonia. Statistical analyses involved the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC). This study examined NLR and MLR as supportive biomarkers for diagnosing TB and pneumonia. The NLR (AUC 0.674) and MLR (AUC 0.63) values in TB subjects were reasonably good in distinguishing between TB diagnosis and healthy subjects. The NLR (AUC 0.77) and MLR (AUC 0.787) values were effective in distinguishing pneumonia diagnosis from healthy control with better sensitivity and specificity compared to TB subjects. However, NLR (AUC 0.401) and MLR (AUC 0.384) values were not recommended to distinguish pneumonia from tuberculosis due to low AUC and extremely low sensitivity and specificity. The NLR and MLR values cannot be used to differentiate TB and pneumonia in children due to their low sensitivity and specificity.

Abstract

An unbalanced nutritional status, either too low or too high, risks disrupting the balance of reproductive hormones such as estrogen and progesterone, which can ultimately lead to menstrual cycle irregularities. This study aims to determine the effect of BMI on the menstrual cycle in adolescent girls in Lubuk Soting Village. This study used an analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was total sampling (saturated sample), meaning that the entire population that met the criteria was included as a sample, with a total of 30 respondents. Data collection was carried out through questionnaires and direct measurements of weight and height. Data analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate methods. In the bivariate analysis stage, an independent t-test was used. The results showed that the majority of respondents (60%) had an abnormal BMI and 66.7% experienced irregular menstrual cycles. Based on the results of the independent t-test, a p-value of 0.003 was obtained, indicating a significant difference between BMI and menstrual cycle regularity. This means that BMI has a significant influence on menstrual cycle conditions in adolescents. Based on these results, it can be concluded that maintaining BMI within the normal range is very important to support menstrual cycle regularity. Teenagers are advised to adopt a balanced diet and engage in regular physical activity as part of efforts to maintain reproductive health. Keywords:  Body Mass Index (BMI), Menstrual Cycle, Adolescents

Abstract

Objectives: This article aims to inform dentists and dental specialists about quality assurance in oral and maxillofacial teleradiology as a communication tool between radiologists and colleagues using a teleradiology system. Review: Teleradiology is a radiological practice that allows the transmission and interpretation of diagnostic images, such as intraoral, extraoral, and CT scans, from different geographic locations. In dentistry, oral and maxillofacial radiologists often interpret these images remotely. To be effective diagnostically, teleradiology must maintain high-quality imaging standards and follow radiological care principles. Quality assurance (QA) plays a vital role in ensuring image clarity, diagnostic accuracy, and patient safety. QA involves implementing standard protocols for image acquisition and transmission using systems such as DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communication in Medicine) and PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), under radiologist supervision and with professional collaboration. Compression formats like JPEG and wavelet, whether lossy or lossless, must be managed properly to avoid image degradation. In clinical dental practice, teleradiology is utilized through teleconsultation, tele-consultancy, and telemanagement, relying on secure communication networks and professional interaction to protect data integrity and confidentiality. Conclusion: Teleradiology improves access to radiologic interpretation and secondary consultations while offering flexibility in image review. Images can be simultaneously accessed from multiple locations. Successful implementation requires proper compression, stable internet, patient privacy, authentication, and data integrity. With adequate QA measures, teleradiology significantly enhances diagnostic services and patient care outcomes. Keywords: Quality assurance, oral and maxillofacial, teleradiology
