Abstract

ASEAN is a region with a high level of economic growth. However, ASEAN region is also faced with several important issues in the energy sector such as high energy consumption growth, fossil energy dependency, and fluctuations in energy prices. Energy efficiency is viewed as the proper way to enhance energy security. The concept of energy intensity (ratio of energy consumption per GDP) is used to describe the level of energy efficiency. The objective of the research is to analyze factors that influence energy intensity in ASEAN region. This study uses secondary data in the nine Southeast Asian countries in 2001-2014. This study employs an analysis with Arellano Bond Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) panel data to analyze factors that affect energy intensity. The results of the study find that the variable of GDP per capita and energy prices have a significantly negative effect on energy intensity. The variable of energy consumption per capita has significantly positive effect on energy intensity. The variables of trade openness and foreign direct investment have no significant effect on energy intensity

Abstract

This study examines which factors most strongly drive export participation among craft-sector micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Central Java. Focusing on batik, furniture, and leather products, we highlight a capability-first perspective that has been underexplored in this context. Using a survey of craft MSEs analyzed with logistic regression, we compare the effects of human capital (export knowledge and skills) with commonly cited enablers such as capital and government assistance. The results show that export knowledge and skills consistently predict export participation, whereas financial inputs and generic assistance are not decisive once capabilities are considered. These findings suggest that policies and firm strategies should prioritize practical export know-how, skills development, and market-readiness over undifferentiated financing. The study contributes evidence from Indonesia’s craft sector that human capital is the primary lever for scaling MSEs to international markets. The skills possessed in the Craft sector in Central Java regarding exports have a positive influence on their performance with a coefficient value of 5.76; this indicates that if the skills of MSEs in the Craft sector in Central Java increase by 1%, it will increase MSEs performance by 5.76%.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the record of events (event studies) related to government policies on education in Indonesia, especially those closely associated with the book publishing industry. In addition, there are also records of events that describe the dynamics of the school book publishing business at PT Tiga Serangkai in 20 (twenty) years, from 2001 to 2023. This timeline was chosen to provide a different description concerning digital transformation in the era of Industry 4.0. The researcher divides the timeline into the conventional phase, the transition phase, and the new era phase, where the COVID-19 pandemic phase becomes a transition point and acceleration of digital transformation that touches almost all life. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out by studying documents related to government policies in the field of education during the study period of the above events, the study of company sales documents, and the study of documents from the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI). Data deepening was carried out by structured interviews with informants who were selected purposively, especially related to data and information on business dynamics at PT. Tiga Serangkai. Data analysis was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner. The results show that government policies significantly influence digital transformation in schools, both in learning and in the fulfillment of goods/services in education. In addition, government policies are closely related to school book publishing business innovation dynamics. On the other hand, the acceleration of digital transformation is greatly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Inclusive and gender-equitable development is a key objective of Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5). Despite being the center of Indonesia's economic growth, gender disparities persist across districts and municipalities in Java. This study examines the influence of women's participation in parliament and the labor marker on the Gender Development Index (GDI) in Java during 2017-2023. Women's participation is measured by Women's Parliamentary Representation (KPP) and Women as Professionals (PTP). Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) and the proportion of women aged 25 and above with at least upper secondary education (PEND) represent health and education dimensions, while Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) serves as a control variable. Using panel data with a Fixed Effect Model, the results show that KPP, PTP, and MMR have no significant effect on GDI, while PEND and GRDP have significant positive effects, highlighting the importance of education and regional economic capacity in supporting gender development.

Abstract

The dropout rate is higher at advanced educational levels. The Indonesian government seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable education by providing educational support to children, particularly those from low-income families in households and schools. The study analyzes the Smart Indonesia Program's (PIP) effectiveness in providing educational assistance to poor or vulnerable households. Due to budget constraints, it is crucial to target aid accurately; however, government-defined poverty criteria can lead to errors in both inclusion and exclusion in the distribution of social assistance. The data for this study were derived from the household surveys conducted in the National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in Indonesia in March 2021. This research focused on sample households in Bogor Regency, West Java Province, and Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province. The data were analyzed using Binary Logistic Regression to identify the factors influencing the receipt of the PIP. The regression analysis was performed using STATA 17.0. The findings indicate that identity ownership, status as a Family Hope Program (PKH) beneficiary, Family Welfare Card program (KKS) participation, and geographical region significantly impact the likelihood of receiving assistance. Households receiving the PKH had a 5.32 times higher probability of receiving the PIP assistance than those that did not. These findings align with the primary eligibility criteria of the PIP, which provides supplementary educational assistance to families enrolled in the PKH. Therefore, the results suggest that the targeting and distribution of the PIP assistance were significantly influenced by identity ownership status rather than the household characteristics traditionally used to define poverty and distributing aid.
