Abstract

This research aims to determine the influence of foreign debt, foreign investment, trade openness, labor, and government expenditure on economic growth in ASEAN middle to lower-middle-income countries from 2000-2019. This research uses panel data with secondary data obtained from reports published by the World Bank and the Malaysian Authority. The analytical model used in this research is a multiple linear regression model equipped with the help of the Eviews 10 program. To see the influence of the independent variable on the dependent variable, the best estimation model was chosen, namely the fixed effect model (FEM). The results of this research show that foreign debt, foreign investment, trade openness, labor, and government expenditure simultaneously have a significant influence on the economic growth of ASEAN lower-middle-income countries in 2000-2019. Meanwhile, partially it shows that the foreign debt variable has a negative but not significant effect on the economic growth of ASEAN lower middle - upper middle-income countries. The variables of foreign investment, labor, and government expenditure have a positive and significant effect on the economic growth of lower-middle and upper-middle-income ASEAN countries. Meanwhile, the trade openness variable has a positive but not significant effect on economic growth in ASEAN lower middle - upper-middle-income countries.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the record of events (event studies) related to government policies on education in Indonesia, especially those closely associated with the book publishing industry. In addition, there are also records of events that describe the dynamics of the school book publishing business at PT Tiga Serangkai in 20 (twenty) years, from 2001 to 2023. This timeline was chosen to provide a different description concerning digital transformation in the era of Industry 4.0. The researcher divides the timeline into the conventional phase, the transition phase, and the new era phase, where the COVID-19 pandemic phase becomes a transition point and acceleration of digital transformation that touches almost all life. The researcher uses a descriptive qualitative and quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out by studying documents related to government policies in the field of education during the study period of the above events, the study of company sales documents, and the study of documents from the Indonesian Publishers Association (IKAPI). Data deepening was carried out by structured interviews with informants who were selected purposively, especially related to data and information on business dynamics at PT. Tiga Serangkai. Data analysis was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner. The results show that government policies significantly influence digital transformation in schools, both in learning and in the fulfillment of goods/services in education. In addition, government policies are closely related to school book publishing business innovation dynamics. On the other hand, the acceleration of digital transformation is greatly influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of the structural transformation in ASEAN countries. This study uses quantitative panel data from 9 countries in ASEAN from 2000 to 2017, thus makes up for 162 observations. This study employs panel data regression analysis with fixed effect model approach. In this study, the shifting of sectoral value added away from agriculture sectors indicates structural transformation. In particular, sectoral value added consists of the industrial value added and service value added. The results of this study shows that dependency ratio, income per capita, education, and trade significantly affect the increase of industrial value added during observation period. On the other hand, total population, dependency ratio, income per capita, education, control of corruption, and trade significantly increase the service value added over time.

Abstract

ASEAN is a region with a high level of economic growth. However, ASEAN region is also faced with several important issues in the energy sector such as high energy consumption growth, fossil energy dependency, and fluctuations in energy prices. Energy efficiency is viewed as the proper way to enhance energy security. The concept of energy intensity (ratio of energy consumption per GDP) is used to describe the level of energy efficiency. The objective of the research is to analyze factors that influence energy intensity in ASEAN region. This study uses secondary data in the nine Southeast Asian countries in 2001-2014. This study employs an analysis with Arellano Bond Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) panel data to analyze factors that affect energy intensity. The results of the study find that the variable of GDP per capita and energy prices have a significantly negative effect on energy intensity. The variable of energy consumption per capita has significantly positive effect on energy intensity. The variables of trade openness and foreign direct investment have no significant effect on energy intensity

Abstract

This study examines which factors most strongly drive export participation among craft-sector micro and small enterprises (MSEs) in Central Java. Focusing on batik, furniture, and leather products, we highlight a capability-first perspective that has been underexplored in this context. Using a survey of craft MSEs analyzed with logistic regression, we compare the effects of human capital (export knowledge and skills) with commonly cited enablers such as capital and government assistance. The results show that export knowledge and skills consistently predict export participation, whereas financial inputs and generic assistance are not decisive once capabilities are considered. These findings suggest that policies and firm strategies should prioritize practical export know-how, skills development, and market-readiness over undifferentiated financing. The study contributes evidence from Indonesia’s craft sector that human capital is the primary lever for scaling MSEs to international markets. The skills possessed in the Craft sector in Central Java regarding exports have a positive influence on their performance with a coefficient value of 5.76; this indicates that if the skills of MSEs in the Craft sector in Central Java increase by 1%, it will increase MSEs performance by 5.76%.
