Abstract

The Qur’an often calls the word jinn coupled with the word al-ins as God’s creatures in different forms. Based on that, the author tried to unravel the problem by studying basically the words jinn and al-ins in the Qur’an and then linking both of them in Toshihiko Izutsu’s semantic theory. The study begins by searching for the basic meaning and relational meaning as the foundation for finding welthansauung or worldview of the word jinn and al-ins in the Qur'an. The study found that the word jinn in the Qur'an has a closed meaning, similar to the root of majnūn, jannah, and janīn. Likewise, the relational meaning of the jinn described in the Qur'an both relating to the ancients before the coming of Islam, the jinns are shaitan, ifrit, angels, superhuman beings, worshiped beings, demons, and the maker of misfortune someone. As for the basic meaning of the word al-ins, the same as insān, basyar, the sons of adam, ‘abd Allah, even al-ins as the representative word of man in the Qur'an can be interpreted shaitan as in surah al-nās which states that shaitan derived from the genie and the human race. The discussion of the ontological and communicative relations between jinn and al-ins in the Qur’an, it is mentioned that jinn and humans are truly God’s creatures created from different elements. These two creatures can establish communication because there is an explanation in the Qur’an, as it did in the time of Adam, Sulayman and Prophet Muhammad saw.

Abstract

This article intends to describe the perspective and how to interpret the Sufi perspective nahwu through the irfani epistemology which is the basis of the Sufistic knowledge system. This paper finds that the Sufis, although they accept the concepts, theories and terminologies of nahwu formulated by the experts, they provide and add a different value content than before. Nahwu which is cognitive in nature, becomes spiritual spirituality by using the takwil irfani approach which emphasizes the esoteric dimension of each reality

Abstract

Bustan al-Katibin is one of the first famous book written by Raja Ali Haji in 1850 AD. It is used in tradisional school in the Riau Islands, Johor and Singapore. This research was significant to be done because Raja Ali Haji had explained that language is not only in linguistic studies, but also in the aspects of ontology, epistemology and cosmology. This study aimed to examine the application of Arabic grammar using Malay by comparing the Arabic grammar system and the Malay language system that has been used in this book. This research was a critical study with content analysis techniques. The primary data source was the Bustan al-Katibin book. Meanwhile, the secondary data sources were books and articles related to this study. The result of this research was the learning of Arabic grammar in Malay as presented in Bustan al-Katibin about aspects of language consisting of: isim, fi'il, and huruf, as a way to help understanding the Arabic grammar. Although the explanation and structure are less systematic in this book, the advantages of this book cannot be ignored because it does not only contain the knowledge of language, but even understanding of language in the system of cosmology, ontology, and epistemology. UU Hamidy explained that his work had been used as a reference in teaching in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in schools in the Riau Islands, Johor, and Singapore. Teeuw asserted that this work was a part of Arabic language study.

Abstract

Abstract

The study of classical nahwu is considered too difficult and also makes it more difficult for the learners to learn. The critics to classical nahwu began to come from the Middle Ages to modern because it was considered to be full of Greek philosophy and logic so that Al-Makhzumi attempted to reform the nahwu. This article aims to further examine Al-Makhzumi's thoughts in his theory of Taisir al-Nahwi al-‘Arabi and the update of Nahwu. This research uses a qualitative method applied in library research. The results of this study indicate that Al-Makhzumi saw a language through a descriptive method until he created the theory of taisir an-nahwi al-‘Arabi with the aim of making the study of nahwu easier and more suitable to the context of learners’ needs today. According to Al-Makhzumi, there are eight basic principles used in the taisir an-nahwi al-‘Arabi theory, they are: (1) refusing the theory of ‘amil, (2) systematic rearrangement of chapters and topics of nahwu study, (3) consolidating Arabic phonology and Arabic morphology in Arabic syntax, (4) supporting speaking proficiency is the basis of Ibn Madha's nahwu critique method, (5) redefining some of Arabic syntax chapters, (6) removing branches and unnecessary chapters of nahwu such as removing i'rab mahalli and taqdiri, (7) perfecting the chapters deemed necessary to be perfected, and (8) consolidating ma’ani aspects in the arabic syntax written on asalib at-ta’bir. This theory is produced by Al-Makhzumi from several sources, including: Imam Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi, school of Kufah (Imam al-Farra’), Ibn Madha', and Ibrahim Mushtafa.
