Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between the Human Development Index (HDI) and the Global Peace Index (GPI) in the Middle East. This quantitative analysis employs the Pearson correlation coefficient formula, with HDI as the independent variable and GPI as the dependent variable. The literature review utilizes numerous sources, including journals, books, news media, and the internet. The research sample included Yemen, Afghanistan, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Qatar, and Israel. HDI and GPI are strongly negatively correlated (-0.854), indicating that an increase in one variable (HDI) diminishes the other variable (GPI). Consequently, countries in the Middle East with higher levels of human development tend to have lower GPI scores, indicating that higher levels of human development are associated with a greater likelihood of peace in this region.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in a new era of technology, pushing everything online and necessitating human adaptation to computers. Industry 4.0 proved invaluable during this pandemic, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerging as a key player, particularly in the beloved South Korean music industry, which enjoys international acclaim. The pandemic played a significant role in the increased use of AI within the K-POP industry, with the emergence of the Aespa Girl Group being a pivotal moment in shaping a futuristic concept. This research aims to investigate the recent surge in AI usage as a futuristic K-Pop concept through a qualitative literature study method. This paper contends that AI has the potential to profoundly impact Korean cultural diplomacy, serving as a game-changing element in the realm of digital diplomacy. While AI has traditionally been applied in high-context scenarios, such as search engines or high-tech automotive control systems, its application in cultural contexts could propel South Korea's cultural diplomacy to unprecedented heights, rendering the concept difficult for other nations to replicate.

Abstract

In a dynamic political context, presidential speeches are crucial in shaping public perception and guiding policy. President Joko Widodo's latest speech on August 16, 2024 that was uploaded through the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel, has come under scrutiny for containing important elements relating to communication strategies and leadership legitimacy. This study aims to analyse the speech by exploring how Jokowi's distinctive rhetoric reflects his role in the political agenda. Using a qualitative approach and Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis technique, this study employs a socio-cognitive framework to guide the analysis. Lingual data was collected through free listening techniques, including transcription, observation, and research subject determination. Meanwhile, non-lingual data was obtained from credible news documents and analysed using hermeneutics and phenomenology methods. The results showed that Jokowi built his image as a responsive and effective leader through language that highlighted the successes and challenges of his leadership and built leadership authority by presenting himself as a skilful, strategic, and reality-based leader. This research contributes to understanding rhetorical strategies in political communication and leadership authority studies, with far-reaching implications for public perception and political dynamics.
