Abstract

Teaching social science in elementary schools is not only conveying theories but also real forms of implementation and problems that often arise in the daily environment, so as to develop students' critical thinking in reconstructing events and the values contained therein. However, the media and learning methods used today have not been able to improve students' critical thinking skills. This study aims to improve students' critical thinking skills through the application of collaboration between PBL and IBL models using video. The research subjects were elementary school students in Surakarta. This research design uses classroom action research which consists of three cycles. The results showed that critical thinking skills increased in each cycle. In the first cycle, 50.33% of critical thinking skills in the second cycle increased to 69.83% and in the third cycle increased to 78.38%. So the conclusion from the results of this study is that the implementation of PBL and IBL models through video media is proven to be able to improve students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Technology in education encourages more effective learning facilitation processes. The lack of variation and innovation in the use of technology used in the form of learning media as a means of supporting learning activities raises many new problems for educational institutions. This research aims to identify the need to create innovations in the implementation of science learning, whose research focus is to analyze the needs for developing smartphone-based innovative augmented reality (AR) learning media. This research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques are observation, interviews, and questionnaires. Teachers and students of junior high schools in Surakarta became the subject of this research. The results showed that students were less focused and unmotivated when participating in the learning process. In addition, the use of learning media is still conventional and not interactive, even though currently all students have smartphones. Based on field facts, the media used by teachers still tends to be conventional, and the majority of students have technological devices such as smartphones, there is great potential for developing innovative technology-based learning media. Smartphone ownership and the lack of interactive learning media are important foundations in innovating the development of smartphone-based augmented reality.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Deep Learning within the Merdeka Curriculum as a response to educational transformation in the digital age, which demands 21st-century competencies, namely critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, digital literacy, and Pancasila-based character among elementary students. The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a project-based approach in integrating technological skills while strengthening national identity. A mixed-method design was employed, combining phenomenology and a one-group pretest-posttest model involving teachers, principals, and fifth-grade students from SD Negeri Sondakan and SD Negeri Tegalrejo in Surakarta. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews, observation, documentation, pretests, and posttests, then analyzed using triangulation, descriptive statistics, and ANOVA. The findings indicate improved students’ technology mastery, with success rates of 93.33% in Sondakan and 84.62% in Tegalrejo. Supporting factors included school leadership, teacher collaboration, and parental involvement. These results show that Deep Learning effectively strengthens digital literacy, the 4Cs, and students’ national character in diverse elementary school contexts.

Abstract

Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are vital competencies of the 21st century; nevertheless, they have not yet been fully cultivated by traditional education methods. This study seeks to evaluate the impact of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities of junior high school students, while also comparing the outcomes with traditional instructional methods. The methodology employed was a quasi-experimental design featuring a non-equivalent control group, comprising 64 eighth-grade pupils allocated into experimental and control groups. The assessment tool was created utilizing Ennis indicators and Polya stages. The study results indicated that the experimental group exhibited substantial enhancements in both skills, evidenced by a modest N-Gain value (≈0.39) and a large effect size (Cohen's d > 1.0). Conversely, the control group exhibited merely a little increase. These findings reinforce the efficacy of PBL as a constructivist learning methodology that promotes active, collaborative, and reflective participation. The implication is that the systematic implementation of PBL can serve as an effective educational technique to enhance learning quality and prepare students with 21st-century competencies.
