Abstract

Kabupaten Pesisir Barat merupakan kabupaten yang berada di ujung barat Provinsi Lampung. Mayoritas penduduknya berprofesi sebagai petani, peternak, dan nelayan. Jenis ternak yang dibudidayakan adalah Sapi Krui. Sebagian besar peternak mengeluhkan beberapa permasalahan yang dihadapi dalam budidaya Sapi Krui, diantaranya banyak sapi yang pertumbuhannya kurang maksimal (lambat), sapi terserang penyakit, serta produktivitasnya rendah. Berdasarkan permasalahan tersebut, tujuan dari program Pemerintah  Daerah Kabupaten Pesisir Barat yaitu memberikan sosialisasi tentang manajemen pemeliharaan ternak dan pelayanan kesehatan ternak di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat. Metode kegiatan ini meliputi ceramah, diskusi, sosialisasi, dan pelayanan kesehatan ternak dan evaluasi pelaksanaan. Peserta kegiatan ini adalah para peternak yang ada di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat Provinsi Lampung yang berasal dari empat wilayah di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat, yaitu Krui Selatan, Pesisir Selatan, Pesisir Utara, dan Pulau Pisang. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat berjalan lancar dan memberikan manfaat bagi Peternak di wilayah Kabupaten Pesisir Barat. Peternak lebih memahami sistem pemeliharaan ternak sapi Krui yang tepat serta perawatan kesehatan ternak secara mandiri, dan diharapkan dari kegiatan ini peternak dapat meningkatkan produktivitas sapi Krui sehingga mengalami peningkatan dan berdampak terhadap perbaikan ekonomi dan kesejahteraan masyarakat di Kabupaten Pesisir Barat.

Abstract

Broodiness is a natural reproductive behavior that plays a vital role in the success of hatching and maternal care in indigenous chickens. This behavior is governed by a complex interaction between endocrine and genetic factors, with the prolactin (PRL) gene serving as a key regulator. The prolactin hormone encoded by the PRL gene stimulates broody behavior, temporarily suppresses egg production, and enhances the maternal instinct to remain on the nest. Genetic variation in the PRL gene polymorphism is associated with the differences in the intensity and frequency of brooding behavior between chicken breeds and local populations. Specific alleles of the PRL gene are associated with increased broodiness, while others are linked to reduced expression and weakened maternal behavior. Studies on Indonesian local chickens demonstrate a significant upregulation of PRL expression during the brooding phase, confirming its central role in the regulation of reproductive behavior. These findings suggest that the PRL gene holds strong potential as a molecular marker in genetic selection programs. Through marker-assisted selection, breeders can maintain strong broody traits for natural hatching or suppress them to enhance egg productivity. Therefore, a deeper understanding of the structure, function, and genetic variability of the PRL gene provides a crucial foundation for developing adaptive, efficient, and sustainable breeding programs for indigenous chickens.

Abstract

One of the potentials owned by Desa Fajar Baru, Jati Agung Regency is livestock, especially goats. However, the excesses caused by farm animals, especially dirt, have a huge impact on health and the environment. In addition, people's habit in processing the manure to be used as compost is less optimal so that agricultural products often do not have maximum impact. Currently, during the Covid-19 pandemic that occurred all over the world, caused an economic recession and decreased income of farming families. With the activities of the training program of making fertilizer from goat manure this gives a new passion impact to farmers. This simple, effective and efficient method of making compost is a new knowledge and experience for farmers in Desa Fajar Baru. This fertilizer is made by adding some materials available in nature easily and cheaply, but provides effective results, both in terms of manufacture, process and use and relatively very short use. Thus, this training provides a new hope for farmers to abandon the old way and provide solutions to the outbound economy and have a positive impact on the environment.  Keywords: fertilizer, compost, goat manure, Fajar Baru, Community Service
