Abstract

AbstractMotivation is the powerful part of learning process for studying English. By this way, students will be more diligent to go to school and engage with the subject. The purpose of this research to reveal students’ motivation in studying English. The data analysis is utilized in this research is qualitative. This method is to reveal some information that collected from questionnaire given to students. Here, there are 40 students are asked some questions. The result of this study that students have answer the questionnaire varies greatly. The top of average percentage of the choice is neutral then followed with agree. The residue are disagree, strongly agree and strongly disagree sequentially. It means some students still hesitant to say agree or disagree about the their motivation in studying English.Keywords: motivation, students’ motivation, studying English

Abstract

An essential part of teaching evaluation. In this case, the evaluation done by students themselves. They did self-assessment. As the definition, it really worked for raising students speaking skill that linked to their performance to express some words in English. Goals for this study to disclose their concern in speaking skill through self-assessment such as their responsibility, autonomous, confidence as well as their competence. Many researchers approved that this strategy was good for increasing students’ skill in speaking. Classroom Action Research was the method for this study. Syah stated (2016) has to do with the teacher examining and delving deeper into concepts, problems, riddles, and challenges in their own classroom. The four stages for conducting the study were planning, action, observation and reflection. The participants of this research are English department students at University of 17 August 1945. Here, there are 32 students. In collecting data, based on the objectives, this study employs observation and questionnaire. The result shown that it genuinely gives impact the students speaking skills. Most of them have positive felling by utilizing this self-assessment in raising students speaking skills. This data can be seen from their responses. Thus, this strategy can be used in training students to be aware to their strength and weakness, to be autonomous learners and responsible to their works.

Abstract

This study is exploring the students’ perception in developing descriptive writing ability trough digital story telling in university students. This study is exploring university students’ perception when they developing their writing especially descriptive text using digital story telling media. The students’ perception is affected how their attitude during activity when they develop their writing ability towards digital story telling media. This study involves 23 participants taken from some classes in English education students which they already practice their descriptive writing using digital story media. This study utilizes a survey using adapted questionnaire and interviews to gather information about the students’ perception regarding their attitude while develop their descriptive writing using digital story telling media. then analysed using likers scale for questionnaire using the formula P = F/N × 100%, and data analysis of interview will be used systematically coded, in which specific statements are analysed and categorized into themes that reflect the phenomenon under investigation. The result of questionnaire shows that almost 80% students give positive perception in digital story telling as media in develop descriptive writing and the result of interview shows that the average students response stated that 75% of students has good perception about digital story telling used in descriptive writing then 25% is neutral. Based on both questionnaire and interview result we can concluded that digital storytelling gives positive perception in developing descriptive writing ability.

Abstract

The perception of the students affects their attitude, willingness, motivation, and engagement in classroom activities. Speaking is considered quite challenging to develop by the EFL students among the other language skills. A culture-based English Approach is one of the solutions to overcome that. Therefore, this study aims to explore students’ perceptions of a culture-based English approach in developing their speaking ability. The researcher used a Qualitative descriptive method in the form of a questionnaire and interview data. The participants of this study were 25 undergraduate students in one of the universities in Banyuwangi. Then, the questionnaire was analyzed using a Likert scale, with the formula P = F/N × 100%. The interview data were systematically coded, with specific statements analyzed and categorized into themes that reflected the phenomenon under investigation. The result of the questionnaire shows that almost 80% students give a positive perception of CBE as an Approach to developing speaking ability. The result of the interview shows that the average student's response stated that students have a good perception about the CBE Approach used in speaking, then 26,8% is neutral. Based on both the questionnaire and interview results, we can conclude that CBE gives a positive perception in developing speaking ability.

Abstract

This Community Service activity aims to empower the Using indigenous community in Banyuwangi Regency to understand and preserve the Using language, particularly its syntactic structure, which includes phrases, clauses, and sentences. The main problems faced by the community are that the use of the Using language remains largely intuitive, without explicit understanding of syntactic rules, and that community-based linguistic assistance is still very limited. The approach employed in this activity is an educational and participatory approach through linguistic mentoring. The activities were conducted in the form of counseling sessions, group discussions, practical analysis of everyday utterances, and the use of visual media in the form of simple syntactic trees. The mentoring materials focused on introducing the structure of nominal, verbal, adjectival, adverbial, and prepositional phrases, as well as contextual understanding of clauses and sentences in the Using language. The results of the activity indicate an increase in community understanding and awareness of the syntactic structure of the Using language. In addition to enhancing linguistic knowledge, this activity also strengthens the community’s sense of ownership of the Using language as part of their local cultural identity and supports sustainable efforts to preserve regional languages.
