Abstract

Abstract

(Title: Multimedia Sensibility And Its Relation With Difficulties In Japanese Language Learning) The development of technology and the popularity of multimedia as a means of conveying information have conditioned society to change into a multimedia community with unique characteristics, sensibility, and needs. This study aims to see the effect of multimedia sensibility on the difficulties in the process of learning Japanese. Data were taken from a survey conducted on the students and analyzed using concepts related to the characteristics of the multimedia society. The results of this study show that multimedia sensibility has an effect on student’s difficulties in understanding learning materials delivered using different media. The new needs of the multimedia society have to be answered with various adjustments. However, by only paying attention to the multimedia sensibility and needs, there is a possibility that learning activities become less reliable in sharpening analytical skills. Therefore, choosing the right materials and methods is important so that the learner’s interest can be sustained by adjusting to their needs and sensibility, and also considering activities that can sharpen other abilities, such as analytical skills, which is very important for student self- development.

Abstract

Abstract

One of the efforts to improve the quality of human resources is by building links and matches between educational institutions and industry.  This link and match will support the growth of skilled human resources who can contribute optimally in various fields. In this regard, the question that often arises is whether universities, as institutions that play a role in educating young people, have produced graduates who have competencies that are in line with the needs of the industries. This research was conducted to identify hard skills and soft skill s typically required by the industries related to Japan and needed to be mastered by the graduates of Japanese Language/Literature Study Program who are working as Japanese speaking professional. Besides, this research aimed to analyze the weaknesses and problems faced by Japanese speaking professional when carrying out their work. The research data were collected from Japanese speaking professionals and the representative from Japanese companies located in Indonesia using questionnaires and interviews. Data obtained were then analyzed by referring to several references, including the results of the research conducted by M.M. Robles (2012) related to hard skills and soft skill s. The study finding about the strengths and weaknesses of Japanese Language Study Program graduates in Indonesia, can lead to improvement of the Japanese language learning, especially Japanese language learning in universities in Indonesia. So that the results of the study are expected to be taken into consideration in preparing and developing the curriculum of Japanese Language Studies Program in Universities, not only in the Vocational School of UGM, but also in other institutions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of the Japanese language in workplace oral communication and some difficulties faced by Japanese speakers. ‘Japanese speakers’ refers to Indonesians who work as Japanese-speaking staff in Japanese companies. The data was obtained through applying questioner methods, Focus Group Discussions, and followed by in-depth interviews with respondents. The research respondents were Japanese speakers at KIIC (Karawang International Industrial City) of West Java. This study shows that Japanese language competence plays a significant role in smooth communication in the Japanese industry, especially in tier 2 and 3 companies. Japanese oral communication activities include internal (shanai) and external communication (shagai). Communication is generally used for completing work carried out through discussions or meetings, presentations to superiors and customers, suppliers, and communication with Japanese colleagues. In addition, because the Horenso concept is still strongly applied as an organizational communication system, the need to communicate in Japanese for hookoku, renraku, and soodan purposes is also significant. The difficulties experienced by Japanese speakers are seen in the difficulty of choosing expressions appropriate to the context and purpose of the conversation. This is partly due to their lack of understanding of the application of the concepts of ningen kankei and uchi-soto in Japanese business communication practices. Employees who have business Japanese competencies have a greater chance of advancing their careers. This research will continue to be refined to obtain results with a strong foundation as a basis for consideration in compiling business Japanese language teaching materials and improving the applied Japanese language curriculum to suit the needs of today's workplace.

Abstract

Advancements in technology, particularly the internet, have provided learners with extensive opportunities to access various resources for independent learning. However, not all learners can effectively utilize digital media and technology, and many face challenges in selecting appropriate materials and methods to support their learning. This study examines the self-directed learning strategies of a Japanese language learner, addressing the following questions: (1) What strategies are employed for independent learning? (2) What media are used, and how does he facilitate self-directed learning? This study employs a qualitative research approach, specifically narrative inquiry, to explore the learner’s experiences. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed to identify patterns in self-directed learning strategies. Findings reveal that the learner adopt multiple strategies, including goal setting for both short-and long-term learning, adaptation, combination, evaluation, and validation. Additionally, the learner engages with various online resources, such as interactive learning platforms, receptive learning materials, social media, and authentic content. The study further identifies six key aspects of technology used in self-directed learning, with variations in frequency based on individual needs and perceived advantages and limitations.
