One of the therapies that can be done to prevent this is the use of Birth balls. Birth balls can prevent maternal fatigue caused by long duration of labor. The purpose of this articel was to provide an overview of the effect of birth ball exercises on the progress of the first stage of labor. This research used the Literature Review method. The sampling method used purposive sampling technique by selecting articles with appropriate topics. The results of the study through the stages of identification, screening, eligibility and include, found that there was an effect of giving birth ball exercises therapy in accelerating the progress of labor in maternity mothers. This is because the birth ball exercise is able to relieve pressure and increase the area of the pelvis, encourage the baby's head to descend, help uterine contractions more effectively, accelerate cervical dilation, and help to relax the ligaments in the pelvis.

Abstract

Childbirth is the process of expelling the fetus to the placenta, the process of giving birth is identical to pain, while to reduce this pain, non-pharmacological methods are carried out, one of which is the Birth Ball method. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of using birth ball as a non-pharmacological complementary therapy in reducing labor pain in the first stage. The method used was a narrative literature review by searching for relevant articles on Google Scholar using keywords such as “Birth ball” and “Labor pain”. Inclusion criteria included Indonesian-language articles published between 2021-2023. Of the six studies analyzed, it was found that birth ball use significantly reduced the intensity of labor pain. These studies showed that birth balls can accelerate cervical opening and reduce anxiety of laboring mothers through movements that increase endorphin release. In conclusion, birth balls are effective as an alternative method to reduce labor pain in Stage I, providing the added benefit of increasing maternal comfort and relaxation during the labor process. This study suggests the use of birth ball as part of midwifery practice to reduce labor pain non-pharmacologically.

Abstract

Kata kunci: kontraksi uterus, moksibusi, persalinan, terapi komplementer ABSTRACT Background: Maternal health is a global priority, with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aiming to reduce maternal mortality by 70%. Achieving this goal necessitates enhancing access to safe and effective maternal healthcare, particularly by improving labor support. Moxibustion, a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves thermal stimulation of specific acupoints, has garnered attention as a complementary method for initiating uterine contractions and reducing labor duration. Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of moxibustion therapy in initiating uterine contractions during the first stage of labor. Method: A cross-sectional design was employed to analyze secondary data from medical records of 90 full-term pregnant women who received moxibustion therapy at the Novayanti Midwife Clinic in West Java between January 2022 and September 2024. The study investigated the relationship between moxibustion therapy and the duration of the first stage of labor. Result: The study identified a significant relationship between moxibustion therapy and a reduction in the duration of the first stage of labor. A total of 77.8% of participants experienced a shortened labor duration, with the results being statistically significant (p=0.000). Conclusion: Moxibustion therapy demonstrates potential as an effective method for initiating uterine contractions and reducing the duration of the first stage of labor. It serves as a viable complementary therapy to enhance labor progress, improving maternal comfort during the childbirth process. Suggestions: Future research should utilize primary data and increase sample size to enhance insights into moxibustion therapy's effects on labor induction, while exploring various acupuncture points like SP4, LI4, ST36, and SP9 to better understand its benefits and role in labor management. Keywords: complementary therapy, labor, moxibustion, uterine contraction
