Abstract

This study aims at describing the comprehensive result of analyzing some errors occur in student’s writing related to cover letter. The data was taken from expository writing assignment of 10 students of English Department, Udayana University. From 10 data, there were only 3 chosen as samples for analysis of this study. The data was collected by note taking technique. The data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. In analyzing the data qualitatively, each letter was analyzed related to the points to be informed in a good cover letter. Quantitatively, there was a comparison of the data in the form a table. From the analysis, the result showed that the teacher should inform the students that they must write their personal information in the beginning of the letter. They also should describe their important skills related to the job, not explaining other skills not related to the job they are applying for. In addition, the most important thing that the student should give final request of a meeting or reply from the company they are applying for

Abstract

This study investigates the features, functions and differences of women’s language styles used by female characters of different skin colors in “The Help” movie. The movie was chosen because it involves many female characters and conversations among women of different races which are related to the purpose of this study. The data was collected by using documentation techniques and analyzed using qualitative methods based on the theory from Lakoff (1975) about women’s language; the formal method is used to present the analysis. The result shows there are 23 utterances identified with a total of six of women's language features used by women's characters, namely empty adjective, super polite form, lexical hedges, intensifier, tag question and hypercorrect grammar. Two categories of functions in the features of women's language are found in this study, that is weakening and strengthening the function. However, the most used features that are useful as weakening the function of the speech, namely lexical hedges, tag questions, super polite form, and hypercorrect grammar. There are several differences in the language styles of women characters of different races in this study, such as the differences in the frequency and the features used in women’s language. Abstract

This study analyzes the language style used in the utterances of the main characters (i.e., Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark) in The Hunger Games Movie. The relevant data was obtained using a qualitative method, especially the documentation method. This study also presents the language style most often used by the main characters, focusing on the five language style features and functions proposed by Martin Joos (1976): formal style, consultative style, casual style, intimate style and frozen style. Overall, we found that the casual style is more often used than the other language styles. More specifically, there are 70 data that convey particular language styles, the distribution of which is as follows: 1 frozen style data, 18 formal style data, 10 consultative style data, 27 casual style data, and 14 intimate style data.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji bentuk dan fungsi indeksikalitas dalam teks tuturan politik yang dilakukan oleh Natalius Pigai di media sosial X selama masa kampanye Pemilu Presiden 2024. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik dan metode analisis isi secara kualitatif, penelitian ini mengidentifikasi lima bentuk utama indeksikalitas: referensial, sosial, pragmatik/ideologis, afektif/emosional, dan temporal-spasial. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tuturan Pigai memuat strategi kebahasaan yang secara eksplisit maupun implisit membangun posisi ideologis, menyuarakan kritik terhadap praktik politik dinasti, serta menegaskan identitas sosial dan kultural tertentu. Indeksikalitas tidak hanya berperan sebagai alat representasi makna kontekstual, tetapi juga menjadi sarana retoris dalam membentuk opini publik dan menggerakkan solidaritas kolektif di ruang digital. Penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam pengembangan studi pragmatik digital, khususnya dalam pemetaan dinamika wacana politik yang berlangsung melalui media sosial di Indonesia.
