Abstract

The existence of upakara plants in Bali is increasingly rare. This happens because of the increasingly massive implementation of the ceremony and the community is less concerned about its preservation. On that basis, it is very urgent to plant upakara plants in Bali because in addition to supplying the need for ceremony materials, it is also a form of environmental preservation or conservation of rare plants. This work describes how the scarcity of these plants is along with the efforts to be made to overcome them. One effort that can be done is by replanting and then inspiring everyone to realize that planting upakara plants both in the yard and in the form of a gumi banten garden is very important. Bali will look beautiful if this upakara plant is planted in every yard because it also acts as an ornamental plant. I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa's Doctoral Program at UHN, through community service, seeks to inspire the youth at the Gandhi Puri Ashram about the importance of this upakara plant and directly plant upakara plants at the Ashram location. Through this program, it is hoped that the land in the Gandhi Puri Ashram will be overgrown with various types of upakara plants and the awareness of the residents to actively plant upakara plants and inspire others to actively contribute to preserving the rarer upakara plants.

Abstract

Communication in this study is defined as a meeting between several religious cultures in an area, both communication that takes place in one direction and two-way communication that depend on each other. This communication later forms a formula, a pattern that is carried out by the community in responding to the various cultures that are carried out by each of them. The application of this multicultural concept can be taken as an example to the Hindu community in Sinduwati Village, Sidemen District, Karangasem Regency, which can impact multiculturalism in real life, in its concrete form, namely the existence of cultural communication between the Hindu community and the Muslim community in the village. This can be seen from the way they parallel and respect other teachings openly. This research was conducted in Sinduwati Village, which is located in Sidemen District, Karangasem Regency. His writing is limited to Intercultural Communication of Hindu-Muslim Community in Maintaining Religious Harmony. This study used a qualitative-descriptive type of research. Descriptive research is generally carried out with the main objective of systematically describing the facts and characteristics of the object or subject being studied appropriately. Data were analyzed by carrying out a series of activities, namely data reduction, presenting, and drawing conclusions. The three steps, both reduction, presentation and conclusion are steps that are integrally interrelated as an analysis circle so that finally the analyzed data can be presented as a research report. Hindu-Muslim Cultural Communication in Sinduwati Village, related to every religious believer should fully believe and fully trust the truth of the religion he embraces. Religion is able to act as a tool to build solidarity as well as high loyalty for its adherents. Plurality is something that cannot be denied or avoided anywhere and by anyone. The number of Muslim population in Sinduwati Village is relatively small (minority) but the people of Sinduwati Village have never carried out activities that deserve to be said to injure inter-religious harmony between Hindus and Muslims that has existed for a long time. The ancestors of the Hindus in the village of Sinduwati believed that this difference was a gift from God, considered as one of the manifestations of the teachings of God in their respective religions. Abstract

The Vedic teachings have been the primary foundation of the religious and social life of the Balinese Hindu community. As part of the spiritual heritage of ancient India, these teachings entered Bali through trade routes and cultural migration since the first century AD. Over time, the Vedic teachings have been acculturated with local culture, creating unique and dynamic Balinese Hindu practices. This study examines how the Vedic teachings in Bali are applied in everyday life, social systems, and religious practices, focusing on the concepts of dharma, karma, and moksha, which remain the ethical guidelines of the community. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive narrative approach, involving interviews with religious figures, direct observation of yadnya rituals, and analysis of historical and religious documents. Through this approach, the study seeks to understand how the Balinese Hindu community internalizes the Vedic teachings in their lives, individually and collectively. Oral traditions and religious rituals are the primary means of preserving the Vedic teachings, which are adapted to the local social and cultural context. The results of the study show that although the Vedic teachings remain the basis of the spiritual life of the Balinese Hindu community, the process of adaptation and acculturation has formed religious practices different from the Vedic teachings that developed in India. Balinese society maintains core values such as dharma and karma. It aligns them with local concepts such as desa, kala, and patra, which allow flexibility in implementing rituals and religious rules. The role of brahmanas as guardians of the Vedic teachings is still vital in the social structure, but changing times bring new challenges to the sustainability of these teachings, especially in the face of modernization and globalization. Modernization and urbanization have given rise to various shifts in religious practices, sometimes leading to the reduction of spiritual meaning and the transformation of rituals into mere formalities. Hindu religious education in Bali can play a role in strengthening the community's understanding and appreciation of the Vedic teachings with methods that are more contextual and relevant to the times. Overall, the Vedic teachings still play a central role in the lives of Balinese Hindu society, although in a form that has undergone modification and acculturation. Academic studies and cultural preservation are strategic steps in maintaining the sustainability of this spiritual heritage amidst changing times. This study emphasizes the importance of preservation efforts through an empirical approach that explores the actual practice of the Vedic teachings and pays attention to how the Balinese Hindu community maintains its religious identity amid globalization.
