Abstract

Corporate Social Responsibility has grown as an issue in corporate governance in recent years.  By having such programs, a private company might seem as having a social responsibility towards its social surroundings. In October 2020, no less than 19.056 studies had been conducted on this subject in various contexts. Even though plenty of research was conducted in the area, there is still limited understanding of how CSR helps a Multinational Company (MNC) during a crisis. This study will analyze the role of private companies (as the example is AkzoNobel) in providing for public needs while gaining economic benefit simultaneously. This study will use a qualitative descriptive method, with document analysis as a data collection technique. For analyzing the data this study will use Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s approach to data reduction and display. The result indicates that a comprehensive CSR program combined with strong corporate culture helps an MNC in surviving its operation despite being in the middle of domestic challenges. This research may serve as a checkpoint for further study on CSR in society as one of the social-cultural issues.

Abstract

The development of security in the context of international politics and international relations has developed from time to time. Nowadays, the practice of security done by a country's government can be imbued with the advancement of technological innovation, dubbed cyber-influenced. Hence the term cyber-security is often used to indicate the association of information technology with security. The United States and China, as two competing big-power countries, also actively utilize cyber-security over the years. This article will describe the cyberwarfare between The United States and China, focusing from 2014 until 2022. A qualitative descriptive method is used, complemented by cyber security and state sovereignty concepts to analyze the case. Results indicate that both countries are involved in cyberwarfare based on defensive reasoning. The fact that both countries are referred to as great powers in international politics also complicates the case, as they have a high-tension nature of the relationship.

Abstract

The rapid stream of globalization is giving a wider range of international public relations spheres. As the effects of globalization are the birth of local and international NGOs its activism is shaped from various perspectives. One of the INGOs is Sea Shepherd run based on the idea of environmentalism, especially focused on marine life protection but often accused of being violent and its movement labeled as eco-terrorism. We are using the case of Operation Milagro (2015-2018) between Sea Shepherd and the Mexican government that cooperated. This journal aims to analyze the relationship between two actors including the mechanism of cooperation in Operation Milagro to prevent the extinction of Vaquita Porpoise and the other endangered species in the Cortez Sea, Gulf of California. This article uses relative deprivation theory and transnationalism concepts to gain a new understanding of the analyzed data. We argue that the cooperation of both actors in Operation Milagro is creating a new stage of understanding between both sides through its deprivation of the Sea Shepherd and the cooperation between Mexico and Sea Shepherd. From the point of view of Sea Shepherd, it became a useful tool to reconstruct a new identity as not only an altruistic NGO but also a cooperative nonstate actor. On the other hand, Mexico provided the navy and federal police to facilitate the Sea Shepherd to reach its goal. The author uses some methods such as literature study by collecting data and facts from books, online sites, online journals, and online news. This article also provides some critiques of a problem that came from the effect of cooperation between two actors.

Abstract

Numerous environmental challenges remain unresolved in Indonesia, primarily due to a lack of understanding and limited exposure to the issue. This study discusses a particular case specific about tailing waste resulting from mining activities conducted by Freeport in Papua. This issue may persist without securitization efforts from relevant stakeholders. Interestingly, the key stakeholders in this case are the local community, diverging from the stereotype dominated by NGOs and other private actors. Additionally, this study served as a response to the scarcity of discussion securitization regarding environmental concerns in Indonesia. The research employs qualitative descriptive methods supplemented by a comprehensive literature study, drawing upon publications from the Google Scholar database related to securitization in the context of environmental issues in Indonesia. The finding will be visualized by the VosViewer program. The results of this study show the need for comprehensive discussions surrounding the Freeport tailing waste case. These findings are derived from significant keywords identified in related publications, particularly those related to securitization. In conclusion, the research highlights the importance of securitization by certain stakeholders in addressing particular environmental issues, ensuring that, they receive adequate attention and resolved by responsible actors.

Abstract

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are designed to tackle urgent global challenges. This study serves as an overview of the significance and interconnectedness of these three SDGs in fostering a sustainable future for our planet at a local level. Pro Iklim or Pro Climate is a program created by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLKH) in 2011 which applies the concept of community empowerment or Community Based Development. The existence of Kampung Proklim (Program Kampung Iklim) program on the regency level in Indonesia can be a specific facet of the manifestation of SDGs, especially SDGs 13, 15, and 17. This article will discuss collaborative governance in managing climate action and the interlinkages between these SDGs and the Kampung Proklim program in Bodeyan Hamlet, Sukoharjo regency. Analysis will emphasize how the combined efforts can amplify the positive impact on global sustainability, even on the micro-local level. Qualitative descriptive methods will be used in this study, supported by on-site interview and library research. The study reveals that the 'Smart Proklim' program at Kampung Proklim Bodeyan implements an organic waste management program that is integrated with a smart garden. It is apparent that climate action and biodiversity preservation can be obtained through collaborative action among stakeholders. It also serves as an evidence where SDG 17 is the key to achieve SDG 13 to 15. This result shows the existence of collaborative governance, and at the same time answers three SDGs objectives. This remarks the uniqueness of this study.

Abstract

During the decade following the Arab Spring and the Yemeni Revolution, significant changes and dynamics occurred in Yemen, particularly in the realms of politics and security. The current situation can be categorized as "stable" due to the absence of escalating conflicts between the parties involved. However, the cessation of hostilities between the Houthi rebels and the Yemeni government, supported by a coalition of Arab countries, has the potential to create new challenges. Additionally, the ongoing humanitarian crisis resulting from the Yemeni conflict continues to require international attention. Despite considerable attention given to the current state of Yemen, there is a lack of scholarly research utilizing scientific literature to examine the condition of Yemen a decade after the revolution. Consequently, this article aims to review the Yemeni Revolution after ten years, using relevant publications from 2012 to 2022 obtained through Google Scholar and the Publish or Perish application. The data will be visualized using the Vosviewer application as a basis for analysis. The findings of this research reveal the complex conditions underlying the ten-year conflict that emerged in the aftermath of the Yemeni Revolution, characterized by multifaceted conflicts interrelated with various factors that have prolonged the crisis.

Abstract

This study examines efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s fisheries industry as a preparatory step for implementing the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This research is a qualitative study presented descriptively through a literature review, drawing on Collaborative Governance theory and the endowment factor concept in the Heckscher-Ohlin model to analyze stakeholder collaboration in maximizing fisheries products as a leading export commodity to the European Union. The findings indicate that fishery products have not yet contributed optimally to Indonesia’s GDP. Marine capture fisheries and their derivative products account for approximately 7.9% of the GDP. Meanwhile, Indonesia and the European Union have agreed on the IEU-CEPA framework, which opens up significant opportunities for expanding fisheries exports. To take advantage of this opportunity, the Indonesian government needs to strengthen collaboration with multiple stakeholders, particularly in improving the competitiveness of fisheries products. However, several challenges persist, including weak fisheries governance, security concerns, ecosystem degradation, limited access to capital and technology, and difficulties in aligning stakeholder interests. This study recommends a holistic and collaborative approach involving the government as a regulator and facilitator, academia as innovators, the private sector as investors, communities as key implementers, and the media as information disseminators.

Abstract

The US-China trade war is a trade conflict that has an impact on the global economy. In this trade war, the hegemon state becomes the main global focus. Therefore, the US-China trade war reflects the rivalry between two superpowers that influence global economic stability. This trade war creates uncertainty for economies around the world. This research examines the concept of hegemonic stability theory in the US-China trade war which reflects the rivalry between hegemons. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method. This research also uses the theory of hegemonic stability in the international system. Moreover, this research used literature study techniques to obtain relevant data. The results show that the US-China trade wars have an impact on the global economy. This study finds that Canada and Australia suffer from trade disruption, while Vietnam benefits from investment diversion. The emergence of China as a new and great economic power proves the hegemonic stability though, that a world with more than one dominant player causes chaos, especially in the world economy.
