Abstract

An elderly person is someone who has reached the age of 60 years and over. One of the health problems that often occurs in the elderly is a decline in memory, learning and cognitive abilities in the elderly which causes them to have difficulty interacting and being difficult to understand. Conditions that affect cognitive abilities in the elderly are called dementia. Dementia is a chronic and progressive decline in memory and thinking function, causing disruption of functional activities. Nursing interventions that can be given to the elderly to improve cognitive function in the occurrence of dementia include brain gymnastics. The case study design used is descriptive research. The method used to collect data is using the Android-based MMSE (Mini Mental State Examination), namely MEFuKo (MMSE for Cognitive Function) to determine the level of dementia in the elderly. Brain exercise therapy (brain gym) is carried out for 7 consecutive days, 1 meeting per day with a duration of 15 minutes. Subject I's MMSE score before brain exercise therapy was 16 (presence of definite cognitive impairment) increased to 19 (presence of probable cognitive impairment) and there was an increase of 3 in total MMSE scores. The MMSE score in subject II before brain exercise therapy was 19 (possible cognitive impairment), after therapy the MMSE score became 23 (probable cognitive impairment) and there was an increase of 4 in total MMSE scores. The more activities you do, the less likely it is that seniors will experience a decline in cognitive function. The conclusion is that there was an increase in cognitive function in the two case study subjects which illustrate the application of brain gym therapy to cognitive function in elderly people with dementia. Brain exercise therapy is recommended to improve working memory function which can improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

STIKES Kesdam IV/Diponegoro as one of the health universities has great potential in the form of human resources (HR) to play a role in the development of the target area in the health sector. The results of an interview with the Head of the Sekaran Community Health Center revealed that of the 5 sub-districts managed by the Sekaran Community Health Center, Sukorejo Sub-District is an area that has complex health problems. Health problems related to the elderly need attention that is no less important. The health of the elderly under the management of the elderly posyandu in the Sukerejo Deliksari sub-district area has been going well. It's just that this area related to handling the cognitive health problems of the elderly still needs more attention. One of the cognitive function disorders in the elderly is dementia. There is no health care related to dementia in this area, this is because elderly posyandu cadres consider the problem of dementia or senile dementia to be natural and normal for the elderly. So promotive and preventive efforts are needed by holding community service related to cadre training in early detection of elderly people with dementia health problems.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the main cardiovascular risk factors which is the main cause of death in the world, especially in the elderly. Maximizing the utilization of elderly health posts is one strategy in controlling hypertension in the elderly, but the limited knowledge and skills of elderly health cadres, especially in managing hypertension, make the implementation of elderly health posts less than optimal. Sumur Gunung Elderly Health Post is one of the elderly health posts that routinely runs in Sumurejo Village, but services are still limited to measuring blood pressure, weight, and height, educational services still depend on the health center, there is no exercise, and there are no special provisions for the PMT menu. This is due to the limited knowledge and skills of the cadres. The results of BP examinations on 20 elderly people registered at the Sumur Gunung Elderly Posyandu showed that 35% (7 out of 20 elderly people) had blood pressure > 140/90 mmHg. The questionnaire results showed that 46% of elderly people had not regulated their diet, 75% of elderly people had a habit of drinking coffee, 80% of elderly people had not limited the amount of salt consumed, 50% of elderly people smoked, 60% of elderly people did not know how to treat hypertension. Based on this background, the STIKES Kesdam IV/Diponegoro Community Service Team carried out an activity entitled "IbM Empowerment of Antihypertension Cadres at the Sumur Gunung Elderly Posyandu". The activities included field visits, refreshing cadres, mentoring posyandu, hypertension education, and utilization of cucumber infusion water. The target outputs were to achieve increased knowledge and skills of cadres so that they were empowered in efforts to control hypertension, publication of community service results in national journals, and electronic media. The results of this activity obtained 35% of elderly people were detected to have blood pressure > 140/90 mmHg, there was an increase in knowledge and skills of cadres in implementing elderly posyandu according to standards, and the use of cucumber infused water to reduce hypertension in the elderly.

Abstract

According to the Law of the Republic of Indonesia number 13 of 1998 concerning elderly welfare, an elderly person is someone who has reached the age of 60 years and above. Indonesia alone ranks fourth in the world with 24 million elderly people who have not received much attention. The decline in various body functions in old age can cause elderly people to have difficulty eating due to various causes. For example, the appetite of the elderly tends to decrease because their sense of taste and smell is no longer as sharp as it used to be to inhale aromas and taste food. The elderly are also more prone to decreased saliva production, loose teeth, weakened intestinal and gastric functions, and decreased stomach acid production which makes it difficult for the body to absorb food. Weakness or paralysis of the face, also known as facial frown, will cause impairment in the ability of facial muscles. Miror Therapy exercises can help improve facial muscle strength in patients with stroke. Regular exercise for 2 times a week can help increase the muscle strength of stroke patients.

Abstract

Stage V chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious health challenge in Indonesia due to its increasing prevalence and high cost of treatment. Educational efforts and the implementation of digital technology-based self-care, particularly through mobile applications, are considered to have the potential to improve patients' quality of life. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of educational and self-care-based mobile applications on the quality of life, knowledge, self-efficacy, and medication adherence of stage V CKD patients undergoing treatment at Dr. Soedjono Class II Hospital. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group approach. From a population of 185 patients, 140 respondents were divided into intervention (n=70) and control (n=70) groups. The intervention included the use of a mobile application equipped with health education features, medication reminders, symptom monitoring, and communication with medical personnel. The results showed that the intervention group experienced significant improvements compared to the control group, including quality of life (+12.6 vs +4.2; p<0.01), knowledge (+16.5 vs +5.7; p<0.001), self-efficacy (+9.3 vs +3.1; p<0.01), and medication adherence (+1.2 vs +0.4; p<0.01). Furthermore, the frequency of application use at least four times per week was positively associated with improved quality of life (r=0.41; p<0.01). These findings demonstrate that mobile applications can be an effective and cost-effective strategy to support the management of stage V CKD patients in Indonesia.
