Abstract

This study aims to describe the dimensi profil lulusan embedded within the short story anthology "Tiur dan Poltak," specifically focusing on the selected stories, while outlining their utilization as alternative literary instructional materials. Employing a descriptive design, this research gathered two primary types of data: (1) the inclusion of dimensi profil lulusan within the short stories' narratives and (2) the feasibility assessment of the instructional materials. The first data set was collected through a read-and-record technique using structured guidelines, followed by content analysis. Meanwhile, the validation of the instructional materials was obtained through written assessment instruments and structured interviews. The written assessments were analyzed by calculating the mean scores to determine feasibility levels, whereas the verbal validation was processed through qualitative analysis. The findings reveal that the selected short stories reflect the dimensi profil lulusan. Based on these results, the anthology was developed into a handout-style instructional material for reviewing fiction. The validation results, both written and verbal, demonstrate that the instructional materials are highly feasible for classroom implementation. This study is expected to serve as a scholarly reference for character-based literary analysis and the innovation of instructional materials in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of reading literacy activities at the beginning of Indonesian Language learning and their relationship to the expository writing skills of ninth-grade students at MTsN Karo in the academic year 2025/2026. The study was motivated by the suboptimal use of reading literacy activities in supporting students' writing skills, particularly in composing logical and systematic expository texts. A mixed methods approach with an Exploratory Sequential Design was employed. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and expository writing tests. The research subjects consisted of all 20 students in class IX-8 at MTsN Karo. The results indicate that reading literacy activities had been implemented routinely for 15 minutes at the start of each lesson; students achieved an average score of 76.5 in expository writing, classified in the good category; however, student engagement was uneven and the integration between reading literacy and writing instruction had not been optimized. This study concludes that reading literacy activities have a positive relationship with expository writing skills, though more targeted strategies are needed to maximize their benefits.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe the development of Powtoon-assisted speech text teaching materials based on the needs of Grade VIII students at MTsN PematangSiantar; (2) describe the form of the developed teaching materials in improving students’ understanding of speech texts; and (3) determine the feasibility of theresulting product. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) methodusing the Borg and Gall model, which was simplified and adjusted to the needs andlimitations of the research. The stages included: (a) identifying potentials andproblems, (b) collecting data, (c) designing the product, (d) validating the product, and (e) revising the product. The subjects of this research consisted of three validators, namely a material expert, a media expert, and an Indonesian languageteacher at MTsN Pematang Siantar. Data were collected through interviews with theIndonesian language teacher and questionnaires administered to students to identify their learning needs. The product developed in this study was a Powtoon-assisted speech text teaching material in the form of a learning video. The validationresults showed that the product obtained a score of 86.6% from the material expert, 89.6% from the media expert, and 95% from the Indonesian language teacher. The overall average score was 90.4%, indicating that the developed product falls intothe “very feasible” category. Therefore, the Powtoon-assisted speech text teachingmaterial is considered suitable for use in the teaching and learning process to support students’ understanding of speech texts.
