Abstract

Siwak (Salvadore persica) is one of alternatif plant which contains antimicroba. Siwak wood contains subject of active antimicribial, such as saponin, terpenoid, and fenol which effective in killing and inhibiting some the growth of oral aerob and anaerob bactery also as non fungal. The research has purpose to search the effectivity of siwak wood etanol extract antibactery with percolation method to isolat 248 S. aureus growth to amicacyn, amoxicilyn, amphycilyin, eritromicyn, canamicyn, chloramphenicol, mesilynam, penicilyn G, sefepym, seltadizym, sefotacsym, seftriacson, sefurocym, and tetraciclyn. This research was experimental study (in vitro) in microbiology laboratory of Medical Faculty of Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta, trough antibactery potention test of liquid dilution method. Siwak stick was made etanol extract using percolation method and made various concetration from 0, 09 up to 25%. Antibactery capacity was determined by measurement of minimal killing value measuarement was based on the smallest consentration which can be kill bactery continuously by observation the growing of isolat 248 S. aureus colony. The result shows that siwak wood etanol extract with percolation method has minimal killing value in 25% concentration to isolat 248 S. aureus.

Abstract

Background: Submandibular abscess is an inflammation accompanied by pus formation in the submandibular region. Submandibular abscess ranks the highest of all deep neck abscesses. 70-85% of cases caused by dental infections are the most common cases, the rest are caused by sialadenitis, lymphadenitis, oral wall lacerations or mandibular fractures. The aim of this study was to determine the case profile of submandibular abscess caused by undetected mandibular fracture and its treatment.Method: The research method used was descriptive observational method. Data was taken from direct observation during the procedure and secondary data came from the patient's medical record in the oral surgery department of Sultan Fatah Demak Hospital.Outcome: Based on the case report, it was found that the treatment given to the patient had high success with minimal intervention. Conclusion: Submandibular abscess on the right lower jaw has been treated with incision and drainage so that the inflammatory products of anaerobic bacteria in the submandibular space can be removed properly.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is a major global health issue with a high prevalence and is often a risk factor for various cardiovascular complications such as coronary artery disease, stroke, and heart failure. Hypertensive patients who are uncontrolled or have other comorbidities tend to be more susceptible to hemodynamic changes during induction, maintenance, and recovery from anesthesia. Method: The materials and methods of this study were derived from various literatures regarding anesthesia in hypertensive patients. The literature was obtained from journals, sourced from Google Scholar. The articles were from the years 2021 to 2024. Result: Optimal blood pressure control before the procedure is crucial to prevent serious complications, such as stroke or myocardial infarction. During anesthesia induction, the choice of anesthetic agents must be tailored to the patient's condition to avoid excessive blood pressure reduction, and close monitoring should be performed throughout the procedure. After surgery, it is important to continue careful blood pressure management and ensure safe recovery to prevent long-term negative health impacts on hypertensive patients.

Abstract

Abstract

Dental health in the elderly is significantly influenced by aging and systemic conditions such as diabetes mellitus and obesity, which increase the risk of complications during dental procedures, particularly tooth extraction. . Diabetes can impair wound healing and heighten susceptibility to infection, while obesity is associated with increased procedural risks. Proper management of local anesthesia and a comprehensive medical approach are key to the success of tooth extraction procedures in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus and obesity. This literature review aims to analyze the role of local anesthesia in the management of tooth extraction in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus and obesity. This study uses a literature review method to evaluate and synthesize research on local anesthesia in dental procedures for patients with hypertension, diabetes, and obesity in older people. Articles used were sourced from databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, and ResearchGate, covering publications from 2000 to 2023. The selected literature focuses on the effects of local anesthesia on related medical conditions and its implications in dental practice for elderly patients. Tooth extraction management in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus and obesity requires a cautious approach, including blood sugar control, appropriate local anesthesia selection, and careful monitoring of vital signs to prevent complications. Effective communication between the dentist and the patient is crucial to reduce anxiety, while intensive post-operative care and pain management are also critical in the recovery process. With the right approach, the extraction procedure can be performed with minimal complications in elderly patients with these medical conditions. DOI : 10.54052/jhds.v5n1.p1-18

Abstract

Oral and dental health is a reflection of a community's quality of life. However, the incidence of oral and dental diseases remains high. Therefore, the prevention of these diseases requires cross-sectoral collaboration by optimizing the role of health cadres. The objective of this community service program was to enhance cadres' knowledge of oral and dental health and their social support for early detection of oral and dental diseases. The implementation method involved a training program for 10 health cadres from Petaranga Village who are concerned with oral and dental health. The training utilized lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and practical sessions. Post-program evaluation results showed a significant increase in the health cadres' knowledge and skills regarding oral and dental health, as well as the social support they can provide to individuals with these diseases. Quantitatively, the average knowledge score increased from 70 to 90, which was statistically significant (p=0.000), proving the effectiveness of the primary service integration-based training program.
