Abstract

The high price of toman fish (Channa micropeltes Cuvier.) in the market is one of the reasons for the need for toman fish farming activities.  However, the expensive price of commercial feed causes the cost of cultivation to be high.  Effective and efficient feeding can reduce feed costs.  Satisfaction is done so that the stomach is emptied in an uncharacteristic time, so it is expected to increase the appetite of Toman Fish.  This study aims to determine the effect of grazing time on the growth of toman fish. This research was conducted in the Wet Fisheries Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Muhamadiyah University of Palembang.  From September to November 2021.   The research method used is an experimental trial with a Non-Factorial Complete Randomised Design. Treatment factors include P1 (No gratification/control), P2 (1 day fasting 4 days fed), P3 (1 day fasting 3 days fed), P4 (1 day fasting 2 days fed), and P5 (1 day fasting 1 day fed). The changes observed were weight growth, length growth, and survival rate (SR).  The treatment of 1-day of fasting and 1 day fed to toman fish (Channa micropeltes Cuvier.) is the best treatment for length growth (3.35 cm), weight (11.06 grams), and survival (89%).

Abstract

Identification of water quality before fish farming is needed to determine the characteristics of water as a medium for freshwater fish cultivation. This study investigated water quality parameters for pH, temperature, Dissolve Oxygen (DO), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), types and abundance of phytoplankton and zooplankton in the conservation area of PT PHE Raja Tempirai, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency (PALI), South Sumatra. Water samples were collected from four stations with codes A0, D1 and D2 in the form of earthen ponds and A1, a tributary of the Muara Air Itam river and ex-situ analyzed at laboratory of aquaculture study program, Sriwijaya University and Center for Environmental Health and Disease Control Engineering (BTKLPP) Class I Palembang. All stations have categories very suitable for DO (>6 mg/L) and temperature (29-32 °C) parameters. Station A1 is categorized as less feasible at pH and TDS (5.06±0.72 and 6.80±0.00 mg/L), stations D1 and D2 are suitable for cultivation at pH parameters (6.36±0.11 and 6.71±0.17), and less feasible at TDS (38.63±0.03 mg/L and 34.50±1.90 mg/L). While at station A0 it is very possible on all parameters, but phytoplankton of the genus Peridinium at this station dominate, so in the future, it is necessary to mitigate the abundance of this type of phytoplankton to avoid water quality degradation, especially in different seasons.

Abstract

Majority of farmers in Ketapang 1.  Rantau Panjang District  are accustomed to using inorganic chemical fertilizers and a few use organic fertilizers. Excessive use of chemical fertilizers will have a negative effect on soil fertility, physically, chemically and biologically. Infertile soil can cause the soil to become hard and cause plant roots to develop less well and disrupt nutrient absorption, so that the production of all plants will decrease, therefore to increase soil fertility you can use organic fertilizer enriched with Azospirillum bacteria (N-fixing bacteria from air) and phosphate and potassium solubilizing bacteria. This organic fertilizer enriched with bacteria more quickly contributes the NPK nutrients needed by plants. This activity was carried out in Ketapang 1 village, Rantau Panjang District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, in the form of counseling and demonstration of the application of organic fertilizer enriched with bacteria. Knowledge about organic fertilizer enriched with bacteria is very beneficial to society to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, to make the soil more loose and fertile and crop production can increase.

Abstract

Belanti village used to be land before the entry of the palm oil company, which caused the canalization to form a lake or swamp. The company's canalization blocked the flow of a natural river in Ulak Pati, Pampangan sub-district, preventing water from flowing and causing it to pool in what was once open land. The result of this canalization caused changes to the ecosystem in the village of Rawa Belanti, which had an impact on the growth factors of aquatic organisms that formed along with the formation of the lake/swamp. This study focuses on collecting data and information about the growth of cork fish that are found in many communities in rawa belanti through the sampling method. The study was conducted for 4 months with sampling intervals every 10 days. Calculation of length-weight and condition factor used all cork fish caught during the sampling. The growth factors assessed were the correlation between length and weight, and the condition factor of the gourami fish caught in the swamp. Based on the results of the study, the correlation of length and weight growth is negative allometric, which means that weight growth is slower than the growth of fish length. Assessment of the condition factor of cork fish shows an average value of 1, which means that the fish is in good body condition. Water quality assessment was also conducted in order to support growth data.
