Abstract

Identification of water quality before fish farming is needed to determine the characteristics of water as a medium for freshwater fish cultivation. This study investigated water quality parameters for pH, temperature, Dissolve Oxygen (DO), Total Dissolved Solid (TDS), types and abundance of phytoplankton and zooplankton in the conservation area of PT PHE Raja Tempirai, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir Regency (PALI), South Sumatra. Water samples were collected from four stations with codes A0, D1 and D2 in the form of earthen ponds and A1, a tributary of the Muara Air Itam river and ex-situ analyzed at laboratory of aquaculture study program, Sriwijaya University and Center for Environmental Health and Disease Control Engineering (BTKLPP) Class I Palembang. All stations have categories very suitable for DO (>6 mg/L) and temperature (29-32 °C) parameters. Station A1 is categorized as less feasible at pH and TDS (5.06±0.72 and 6.80±0.00 mg/L), stations D1 and D2 are suitable for cultivation at pH parameters (6.36±0.11 and 6.71±0.17), and less feasible at TDS (38.63±0.03 mg/L and 34.50±1.90 mg/L). While at station A0 it is very possible on all parameters, but phytoplankton of the genus Peridinium at this station dominate, so in the future, it is necessary to mitigate the abundance of this type of phytoplankton to avoid water quality degradation, especially in different seasons.

Abstract

The high market demand for gourami has led to an increase in fish farming activities. However, this fish farming activity is constrained by the spawning and breeding process. Gourami fish takes quite a long time in the seed growth phase so it is feared that it can hamper the fulfillment of gourami fish stocks in the market. Several studies have been conducted to shorten the growth time of fish seeds. One of them is in the field of feed. Modification and alternative feed are expected to contribute to science in the cultivation of gourami fish seeds. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of feeding additives to increase the growth of carp fry (Osphoronemous gouramy). The research was conducted from August to October 2019 using nets in concrete ponds.  The research was conducted experimentally using the group randomized design (RAK) method carried out in 4 treatments and 4 groups. The treatments tested were the provision of additional ingredients consisting of P_1 = 15% Probiotic / Kg feed, P_2 = 0.4% Vitamin C / Kg feed, P_3 = 3% Spirulina/kg feed, P_4 = 3.25% Papain enzyme/kg feed. Observation parameters include absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, survival, and feed conversion ratio. The results showed that 3% spirulina/kg and 3.25% papain enzyme/kg had a significant effect on the rate of weight growth and growth.

Abstract

The Namang River is a small river located in Central Bangka District, Bangka Belitung Province. Bangka Island is known to have high biodiversity, both plants and animals, including freshwater fish species. Based on information, there are several types of fish that are endemic fish that are only found in the Namang River. Climate change and changes in land use due to tin mining activities can threaten the survival of fish species in the Namang River. This research aims to analyze fish diversity and fish habitat conditions in the waters of the Namang River, Central Bangka, Bangka Belitung Province. Based on the research results, 15 species of fish, 1 species of shrimp and 1 species of freshwater crab were found. The species with the highest abundance are Trigonopoma gracilie and Trigonopoma pauciperforatum. Of the 15 species, three species are endemic to Bangka Island, namely Betta chloroparynx, Parosphromenus deissneri, and Betta schalleri.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of supplementation of natural ingredients in pelleted feed on gonad maturity and survival of female Betta fish (Betta splendens). The research was carried out from April to June 2025 at the Aquaculture Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Muhammadiyah University, Palembang. The research design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five treatments and three replications (a total of 15 containers). The basic feed used was PF 500 pellets. Treatment consisted of: P1 (100% pellets), P2 (pellets + Lactobacillus rhamnosus 100 mg%), P3 (pellets + 100 mg astaxanthin), P4 (pellets + combination of L. rhamnosus 70% + astaxanthin 30%), and P5 (pellets + combination of 70% astaxanthin + L. rhamnosus 30%). Parameters observed included an increase in body weight and length, survival, gonad maturity level (TKG), gonad maturity index (IKG), and fecundity. The results of the study showed that 100% astaxanthin (P3) supplementation provided the most optimal results in increasing body weight, survival, gonad maturity and fecundity of female B. splendens. Length growth did not show significant differences between treatments, while water quality during the study remained in the optimal range for keeping Betta fish. These findings confirm the potential of astaxanthin as an effective natural supplement in supporting the sustainable reproductive performance of ornamental fish.

Abstract

Catfish is a popular fish to eat for some people in South Sumatra. The market's strong demand for catfish motivates farmers to keep producing them. One of the strategic stages in enhancing community welfare and attending to local needs is empowering the community, particularly the young of Karang Taruna. In order to create human resources for the production of catfish seeds that promote the sustainability of natural resources, this project aims to transfer science, technology, and skills to Karang Taruna.  Helping with fish seeding, basic bookkeeping, and marketing advice are the strategies employed. Sungai Lebung Village, Pemulutan Selatan District, Ogan Ilir Regency, was the location of the community service project. The outcomes of this community service project can proceed as planned. The efficacy of the catfish spawning aid program is demonstrated by the up to 80% seed survival rate. Additionally, partners have a basic understanding of bookkeeping and marketing for catfish seeding activities.
