Abstract

Abstract

Urban cultural landscape is a concept considered as new and still raises many arguments among scholars. This concept comes from terms of cultural landscape and first was revealed in 1925 by Sauer, a Geographer. Then this term has evolved to be a concept of urban cultural landscape after finding many countries in the world are interesting to propose their historic cities as a World Heritage Cultural Landscape. Currently, some researchers from geography, anthropolo-gy, economics, architecture and landscape architecture have tried to reveal the concept. However, generally the description of their concept is more in processing or exploring the establishment elements of urban cultural landscape, so as can be seen that the concept is not comprehensive yet and still partial in accordance with the scientific background. Therefore, this paper aims to reveal the concept of urban cultural landscape from different disci-plines to gain a comprehensive one. And to support the establishment of the concept, the paper uses a case study, which is Cirebon city as it is one of the unique and historic cities in Indonesia. The city has been established since 15th century. The establishment has been affected by social, cultural, political and economic impacts from various periods of rules (Sultanate Cerbon, Dutch Colonial and the Republic of Indonesia).of rule (Sultanate Cerbon, Dutch Colonial and the Republic of Indonesia). Abstract

There is a collaboration between spatial forms and Islamic (Javanese) cultural rituals in Cirebon city, which has the potential to shape the uniqueness of the cultural landscape. The research object is the Kanoman Sultanate which conducts the annual ritual, 'M(a)uludan' tradition. The aim is to describe the collaboration between the physical forms of the Keraton Kanoman and the M (a)uludan Tradition, which is the Islamic or Javanese culture. This involved using the qualitative description method through cultural participation for a period of 8 years. The results showed the existence of an imaginary space formation strung together by the presence of residents from 31 villages as followers (wargi) of the Keraton Kanoman. Moreover, the spatial form of the ritual route was discovered to have been formed for several generations. The people strongly believe that the presence and involvement of these routes can bring them virtue, blessings, prosperity, as well as protection from misfortune. This research argues that the imaginary space forms were created by these cultural events.

Abstract

This research investigates the segregation phenomenon that occurs in Jakarta through the lens of the Batavia Canal, exploring its historical and urbanistic role in shaping the social structure and spatial planning of the city. By focusing on developments over time, this study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of how the canals in Batavia, which characterized the city during colonial times, played a role in establishing the segregation patterns that can be observed today. The research methodology involves historical analysis of canals, literature research, and postcolonial discourse analysis to reveal the correlation between canal structures and segregation patterns in Jakarta's urban space. These findings were integrated with interviews and a participatory approach to understand local community perspectives on the perceived impacts of segregation. The research results highlight how the canals in Batavia are not only physical but also symbolic elements in the formation of urban space. Over time, these canals can become associated with social and economic divisions, creating inequalities in access to city resources and services. The implications of these findings provide a basis for deep introspection into Jakarta's current urban spatial challenges, demonstrating the need for inclusiveness-oriented urban planning to overcome persistent segregation. Thus, this research encourages awareness of the complexity of interactions between physical and social elements in Jakarta's urban space. Directed towards solutions based on an understanding of history and contemporary reality, this study is expected to provide valuable insights for more holistic, equitable and sustainable urban planning in the future.

Abstract

West Java International Airport (BIJB) Kertajati has strategic potential as a regional logistics distribution hub, supported by its connectivity to toll roads, industrial zones, and the Rebana metropolitan development. However, low levels of flight activity and kargo distribution have resulted in suboptimal utilization of the area. This study aims to identify the current state of multimodal logistics infrastructure and analyze the need for smart logistics infrastructure development in the BIJB Kertajati area. This study employs a quantitative-qualitative approach (mixed-methods) using Gap Analysis and SWOT analysis, reinforced by the IFAS-EFAS framework. Research data was collected through field observations, literature reviews, and an analysis of the area’s development policies. The results indicate that the BIJB Kertajati area possesses key strengths, including connectivity via the Cipali and Cisumdawu toll roads, the availability of extensive land, and a strategic location relative to industrial zones and the Port of Cirebon. However, the area still faces limitations, including low kargo activity, suboptimal multimodal integration, and limitations in the digital logistics system. The study produced a logistics infrastructure development model based on a kargo terminal, smart warehouse, digital logistics platform, and green infrastructure to support the efficiency of goods distribution and the sustainability of the area. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the development of airport-based logistics areas in Indonesia.
