Abstract

Evidence suggests that autonomous language learning has been one of the primary areas of interest in the field of English Language Teaching due to its fundamental roles in empowering students in taking the responsibility for their learning both in and out of the classroom. This study set out to investigate the structural relationships among the dimensions of English student teacher perception towards their roles and strategies in promoting autonomous language learning and professional autonomy. A total of 357 student teachers of English from Indonesia participated in this study. Eligibility criteria required the participants to have taken courses on English Language Teaching Methodology to ensure their understanding about the concepts of autonomous language learning and their future roles and strategies in fostering and promoting autonomous language learning. Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) with MPlus 7.2 was used to test the models proposed in this study. The findings showed that the dimensions of student teacher roles and strategies in promoting autonomous language learning and professional autonomy were weakly to moderately related to one another, suggesting how teacher education institutions need to provide sufficient trainings on the concept and practice of autonomous language learning. Several noteworthy findings are summarized and discussed thoroughly in the discussion section.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research aims to improve the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education through the application of active learning models to students of class IX.1 at SMPN 1 Guguak District. The learning outcomes of most students in the PAI subject show low results or are below the minimum competency standards. This is due to the low level of student involvement in the learning process, as well as the dominance of lecture methods that are less interesting for students' learning interests. This study uses a PTK design that is implemented in four cycles, where each cycle consists of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of the study were 32 students of class IX.1 SMPN 1 Guguak District. The data collected included the results of observations of learning activities and the results of the initial and final assessments. The results showed that the application of the active learning model can improve the learning outcomes of class IX.1 students of SMPN 1 Guguak District. In cycle I, the average student score increased compared to the Pre-Cycle, which was around 75% of students achieved minimum completeness. In cycle II, the increase in student learning outcomes was around 81.25%. In cycle III, the increase in student learning outcomes was around 87.5%. In addition, the observation results showed that students were more motivated and actively involved in the learning process using the active learning model. Thus, it can be concluded that the active learning model is effective in improving the learning outcomes of Islamic Religious Education in class IX.1 students at SMPN 1 Guguak District.

Abstract

The development of technology is developing very rapidly, the ease of this technology has created a new era in the literary world that makes it easier for everyone to hone and become a writer. This research aims to find out the life of online novelists in building a front stage on social media, backstage life in their daily lives and social and economic impacts. Through a descriptive qualitative approach using the snowball sampling technique. Data collection was carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study show that online novel writers consciously form and manage their identities consciously in the digital space. In the front page, it can be seen how an online novel writer manages his identity through the use of pen names and also how to interact with readers without the need to see his life behind the scenes. While the back stage includes creative activities carried out by the writer, personal routines that are not in finding ideas and also the original personality. The dramaturgy carried out by online novel writers shows that the social role as a writer is still more dominant in the digital space than in their real lives. A self-image that is built consistently and sustainably allows access to economic opportunities that can help and improve the author's economic status.
