Abstract

The development of modern era must be followed by the development of a mature mindset, especially the use of social media. Today, technological advances have implications for the easy flow of information from all social media platforms. However, this ease has triggered hate speech and led to cyber bullying in the community. On the other hand, social media is also often used as a tool to spread hoax news. Any information from social media must be used to prevent conflict. Therefore, this community service will be carried out as a preventive step to build public understanding of social media, so that it is hoped that social media will become a tool for a culture of peace. The activity is carried out by providing an understanding of how to use social media properly and wisely through the use of the TEPAR formula. The result of the program shows an increase in knowledge related to the use of social media as a means to create a peace culture.

Abstract

Sambal, a culinary product, epitomizes the national identity of the Indonesian people. Virtually every region in Indonesia boasts its own chili sauce, reflecting its unique social and cultural identity. One such example is sambal uleg from Lamongan Regency, renowned for its distinctive flavor derived from petis, a key ingredient exclusively found in the north coast areas of Lamongan and Tuban. This unique taste renders sambal petis pantura a potential culinary gem, particularly in Samarinda, where the populace savors spicy and savory dishes. However, several challenges hinder the development of typical Pantura sambal uleg products. This service aims to capitalize on market opportunities and enhance the economic value of processed Pantura chili products in Samarinda City. The method employed is mentoring, comprising three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The outcomes of this service initiative include expanded market outreach, increased economic value of the developed products, issuance of partner business permits, and halal certification.

Abstract

River pollution, particularly from littering, has long plagued Samarinda City. The Karang Mumus River exemplifies this challenge, with heavy downstream debris and a lack of upstream catchment areas leading to seasonal flooding. This pollution significantly reduces the community's quality of life and hinders sustainable development efforts. To address this, a community service program was initiated to raise environmental awareness through cleaning and maintaining the Karang Mumus River. The program utilized outreach methods to educate the "Save Karang Mumus" (SKM) community about the river's functions and proper environmental practices in the surrounding area. The activity culminated in a river cleaning initiative. Notably, post-program participants expressed a willingness to actively participate in future river cleaning efforts organized by GMSS-SKM. This positive outcome demonstrates the program's success in raising awareness about the importance of protecting the Karang Mumus River environment.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, English proficiency is a crucial skill for enhancing individual competitiveness. Adolescence is an ideal stage for language acquisition due to more mature cognitive abilities. This community service program was designed to address the lack of English language learning at the Pondok Pesantren Rahmatullah Lempake in Samarinda, a problem primarily caused by limited teaching staff. The main goal of this activity was to equip students with foundational English knowledge, empowering them to become more competitive and competent individuals in society. The program, conducted over 12 meetings, provided basic English instruction to 9th-grade Wustho students. The methodology included a preparation stage, followed by implementation using the service-learning method, and concluded with a comprehensive evaluation. The evaluation results demonstrated a notable improvement in both understanding and motivation among the participants. Specifically, the students' basic English language skills showed an increase of 60-80%, highlighting the program's effectiveness in bridging the educational gap and fostering a positive learning environment.
