Abstract

Background: Family Planning is a way to regulate the number of children born and the spacing of pregnancies through information, education, and the use of contraceptives. Postpartum contraception is important to obtain an optimal interpregnancy interval. Postpartum contraception should be initiated early; one of which is Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC). Levonorgestrel can be used to prevent pregnancy because it interferes with ovulation, implantation, and fertilization. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the efficacy and effects of using levonorgestrel implants on breastfeeding and infant growth. Methods: Primary data were in the form of research papers obtained from PubMed®, and Google Scholar® published from the period 2010-2018. The keywords for the searches included: “levonorgestrel”, “levonorgestrel (LNG)-releasing implant”, “levonorgestrel on lactogenesis”, “levonorgestrel on infant growth”, and “levonorgestrel on breastfeeding”, which were used alone or in combination. Results: The 20 selected articles were reviewed based on five identified phrases. Levonorgestrel subdermal implants were shown to be a good choice for women who wanted effective contraception. When used by breastfeeding mothers, levonorgestrel subdermal implants affected neither infant growth (0-1 year of age) nor lactation duration. Conclusions: Levonorgestrel subdermal implants can be effective long-term contraception. These implants are safe for breastfeeding mothers and do not affect infant growth.

Abstract

Background: Glaukoma is one of the eye diseases that most often causes permanent blindness. The effectiveness of glaukoma therapy is generally assessed by the reduction of intraocular pressure and improvement of the patient's clinical condition. The research aims to examine the therapeutic profile and effectiveness of outpatient glaucoma patients in a hospital in Yogyakarta. Methods: This study is a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design. Data collection was carried out retrospectively through medical records of outpatients at hospitals in Yogyakarta in 2023-2024 with a purposive sampling method. Analysis of the relationship between treatment profiles and effectiveness was carried out using the Chi-square test. Results: In this study, patients with the use of antiglaukoma combination therapy regiments were more dominant (57.07%) with additional administration of supportive therapy of (71.73%). The combination of antiglaukoma groups of beta-blockers-prostaglandin analogs with the combination drug timolol-latanoprost was the most commonly administered drug (26.7%). Artificial tears (65.97%) are a supportive therapy often given in conjunction with antiglaukoma therapy. The analysis results showed there was no relationship between the therapy regiment (p = 0.41) or the type of therapy (p = 0.897) with the effectiveness of antiglaukoma drug therapy. Conclusion: Combination antiglaukoma therapy is given more often than monotherapy. The combination of timolol and latanoprost is the most commonly given regiment. The majority of patients received antiglaukoma along with supportive therapy. There was no relationship between the therapy regiment or the type of drug with the effectiveness of therapy.

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance is a global health issue largely caused by the misuse of antibiotics. Increasing public knowledge about rational antibiotic use is a key step in controlling antimicrobial resistance. This study aimed to determine the effect of educational content on the social media platform TikTok on students’ knowledge about antibiotics at Universitas Islam Indonesia. The research employed a pre-test–post-test design, with a 63-second educational video as the intervention. The study involved 351 students selected through accidental sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed a significant increase in the average knowledge score from 73.25% in the pre-test to 91.16% in the post-test (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that TikTok-based educational content effectively improves students’ understanding of appropriate antibiotic use. Social media can serve as an engaging and accessible platform for health education, especially among young people. Utilizing TikTok as a medium for health promotion is expected to support national efforts in preventing antimicrobial resistance in Indonesia.
