Abstract

Geographical indication certification of coffee is growing due to the demand for "specialty" coffee based on geographic origin. According to coffee lovers, the taste of coffee varies, depending on where the coffee is produced. As demand for geographic indication certified coffee increased, the research that related to this topic also developed. To find out the extent of research that has been carried out regarding the topic, this bibliometic research was conducted. The purpose of this research is to map research on geographical indication certification of coffee based on keywords and research titles so that gaps and novelties related to the topic are obtained. The type of research used is a quantitative descriptive method. The analysis used is bibliometric analysis with the Vosviewers software tool. Based on the analysis results, it was obtained from the network visualization mapping that there were 6 clusters originating from 3032 terms with 50 keywords that appeared at least 10 times. In research on geographical indication certification, the 3 most keywords that appeared were coffee, Indonesia, geographical indications. From the mapping visualization results, it is known that the latest research topics studied are signs, Arabica coffee, coffee farmers, factors, indicators, Indonesian coffee, Robusta coffee, quality, and West Java. The average publication related to these items was published in 2020-2021. From the results of the visualization mapping, the density of research topics related to coffee items in cluster 1, Indonesian items in cluster 4, and geographical indication items in cluster 2 have been widely researched, while topics in clusters 3, 5 and 6 have not yet been widely researched. These items are signs, coffee farmers, indicators, value, quality, coffee farmers, Robusta coffee, quality, and West Java.

Abstract

To implement physical distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, many universities around the world have applied online and E-learning methods. Although faced with several obstacles, online and E-learning methods also provide many opportunities. One of them include the reduction of paper usage, which in 2019 totaled to 394 million tons worldwide. To analyze such an opportunity, this study was conducted at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) by involving 232 students and 113 lecturers from 16 faculties. Data were obtained using a structured online questionnaire. The results show that paper usage at USU can be reduced through online and e-learning methods by 48,008,800 sheets per year or equivalent with approximately 4,003 trees. This amount is totalled from lecturer research activities, lecture materials, and student final projects, which are 240,000, 44,800,000 and 3,000,000 sheets, respectively. To realize this, USU is required to improve internet facilities and e-learning access, train lecturers and students to use and manage said facilities, and train lecturers to prepare materials specifically designed for online and e-learning.

Abstract

Sustainable palm oil certification is expected to lead to sustainable development and livelihood. This study was conductedthrough 240 and 176 certified and non-certified oil palm smallholders in Indonesia and Malaysia, respectively. The data were collected using theclustered convenience sampling method and analyzed with compare means test. The results show that certified smallholders have a superiorperception and implementation of a sustainable economic and socialenvironment, enjoy higher productivity and selling prices, are able to maintain the quality of natural resources, are more resistant toproduction and price fluctuations, and are more prepared for replanting.

Abstract

The government, through Peraturan Presiden RI Nomor 44 Tahun 2020, mandates Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification for smallholder farmers within five years of its enactment. However, by December 2022, only 32 farmer groups had achieved ISPO certification. The Gunung Ambat Farmers Group, which has already received funds from the PSR program, is one of the independent farmer groups with the potential to acquire ISPO accreditation. Yet, members' understanding of this certification remains low due to a lack of socialization or training from the government or other entities. This initiative aims to promote the regulation and provide training on the concepts and requirements for ISPO certification. Activities include administering questionnaires to assess knowledge, conducting training sessions, engaging in puzzle games, and practicing the documentation of farming activities. The results indicate significant improvements in farmers' understanding before and after the training. Initially, farmers had no knowledge of ISPO certification; however, post-training, over 70 percent of participants understood the certification, with an average of 35 percent comprehending its principles and criteria. Participants are also encouraged to document their farming progress, enhancing their skills in farming business documentation and administrative tasks.

Abstract

Citronella oil production has been developed by the Regional Government of the South Tapanuli District through the Forest Management Unit (KPH), the Agriculture Office and the Industry Office. For KPH, this program serves to gradually replace oil palm smallholdings in forest areas. For the Agriculture and Industry Offices, this program is intended to increase farmer income, especially during the Covid19 Pandemic. However, businesses have faltered as citronella oil prices dropped dramatically. Many farmers cannot survive and temporarily close their business. This is mainly caused by the limited market access of farmers due to an inadequate business scale and production quality. To overcome such a condition, farmers need to have a strong smallholder institution with a sufficient economic scale, as well as good coordination among stakeholders. This activity was carried out for 3 months through online and offline meetings. Farmers were introduced to both export and local market accesses. However, to utilize these opportunities farmers need to have a strong and adequate farmer institution. Through the Forum Group Discussion, progressive farmers and processors were gathered with farmers from 3 other sub districts, as well as other stakeholders related to the improvement of market access. The results showed that farmers and other stakeholders agreed to jointly support the development of the citronella oil industry in South Tapanuli. The FGD ended with the commitment of farmers and all stakeholders to form a South Tapanuli Citronella Oil multi-stakeholders Forum to improve the ability to deal with market fluctuations in the future.
