Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) refers to a hyperglycemia syndrome due to various causes. Today, many people consume bitter melon as a diabetes drug. Because according to their thinking, its bitter taste can neutralize blood sugar levels. Momordica charantia (Bitter melon) is a plant that is used as a vegetable and in traditional medicine with hypoglycemic fruit activity. Momordica charantia (Bitter melon) contains an insulin-like compound called charantin which has anti-diabetic properties and helps reduce blood sugar levels. This study aims to determine the effect of giving bitter melon extract (Momordica charantia) on reducing blood glucose levels in mice (Mus musculus). The type of research in this study uses a Literature Review with a Narrative Review design. Extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia) can reduce blood glucose levels in diabetic mice (Mus musculus) with concentrations of 100 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg. Extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia) with a concentration of 400 mg/kg can reduce blood glucose which is almost equivalent to giving metformin to diabetic mice (Mus musculus). Extract of bitter melon (Momordica charantia) can reduce blood glucose levels in diabetic mice (Mus musculus). However, it is more effective at a dose of 400 mg/kg

Abstract

Malaria remains serious health problems in Indonesia, especially in the eastern region which has a high incidence . Routine blood tests are used to identify hematological abnormalities in malaria patients and the status of malaria history which is suspected to have a role in hematological changes , this is not fully understood . Therefore , it is necessary to explore the effect malaria history status on routine blood test results . To analyze the relationship between routine blood test results (hemoglobin, platelets , leukocytes ) and malaria history status in patients at Ibnu Sina Hospital Makassar during the period 2019-2024. Observational analytical design with a cross-sectional approaches . There were 43 patients diagnosed with malaria. Data were analyzed using the chi-square statistical test . The majority of malaria patients were aged 21-30 years and were dominated by man while the most common type of plasmodium was P. vivax and occurred in patients without a previous history of malaria. Routine blood results found that most Patients had normal hemoglobin (76.70%), thrombocytopenia (83.70%), and normal leukocytes levels (72.10%). These results indicate a significant relationship between malaria history and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.020) and platelet count (p = 0.010) because malaria patients who have a history of malaria already have partial immunity that can minimize the occurrence of hematological disorders . However , in leukocytes , there was no significant relationship between malaria history and leukocyte count (p = 0.503). A significant relationship was found between hemoglobin and platelets with malaria history status .

In this case, the patient's Type 2 DM disease, which he has suffered from for the past 10 years, is not controlled. The patient underwent debridement and routine wound care to prevent further infection, the patient was also given medication according to the results of the patient's supporting examinations. Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in Indonesia. CHD is a disease caused by blockages in blood vessels (atherosclerosis) that disrupt blood flow to the heart. There are several risk factors for CHD, including smoking and hypertension. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between smoking and hypertension in patients with CHD. This research method uses the methodliterature review. Data were obtained from secondary data using documentation techniques. This documentation was done by searching for articles through Google Scholar and Pubmed. The selected articles were in accordance with the research variables and inclusion criteria. The articles were analyzed using the procedurecompare, contrast, criticize, synthesize, dan summarize. From the study, 3 articles were obtained that had data related to smoking and CHD variables (p < 0.05) and 3 articles that had data related to hypertension and CHD variables (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between smoking and hypertension in CHD patients.
