Abstract

International cultural exchange and arts initiatives are important elements in promoting intercultural understanding and social inclusion. However, no research has looked at the concrete impact of international arts and culture initiatives on levels of inter-community engagement. This article attempts to fill this knowledge gap by exploring its impact on inter-community relations and social inclusion. This research aims to investigate the impact of international arts and culture initiatives on levels of social engagement and inclusion among the various communities involved. We seek to understand how international cultural exchange through arts and culture can strengthen inter-community relations and promote greater social inclusion. This research was conducted using the Community Based Research CBR method) through a qualitative approach involving case studies of several international arts and culture initiatives that have been implemented in various regions. We conducted in-depth interviews with participants, organizers, and relevant stakeholders, and analyzed data from event documentation and field observations. The research results show that international arts and culture initiatives can have a significant impact on inter-community engagement and social inclusion. Cultural exchange through arts and culture enables better communication between communities, reduces stereotypes, and encourages closer cross-cultural collaboration. Additionally, it also results in stronger feelings of attachment between individuals from different cultural backgrounds. The results of this research show that international arts and culture initiatives have great potential in promoting inter-community engagement and social inclusion. Through creative cultural exchange, we can build bridges that connect diverse groups of people and encourage deeper intercultural understanding. The practical implication of these findings is the need to support and promote international arts and culture initiatives as an important tool in building a more inclusive and tolerant society.

Abstract

This research focuses on the main challenges and barriers to adopting information and communication technology (ICT) in educational institutions in Lahore, Pakistan. The research mainly focused on limited resources, outdated curriculum, and technophobia among educators. Using qualitative methods and a case study approach, the research collected data from various educational institutions through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis. A total of 15 interviewees, including teachers, school administrators, and technical staff, were purposively selected to provide deep insights into the issues studied. Data were analyzed using reduction, presentation, and verification techniques to identify key patterns. The results showed that resource limitations, such as lack of ICT devices and minimal budget, are the main barriers to technology integration. In addition, a curriculum that is irrelevant to the demands of the digital era slows the adoption of ICT in the learning process. Technophobia among teachers was also identified as a significant factor, with many educators feeling insecure about using technology due to a lack of relevant training and adequate technical support. The findings imply the need for a holistic strategy that includes providing adequate resources, curriculum reform, and continuous training for educators to support more effective technology integration. This research contributes significantly to understanding the challenges of ICT adoption in developing countries, particularly in Lahore. The results provide important insights for policymakers to design more inclusive and effective technology-based education policies while filling the literature gap in the context of ICT adoption in the education sector.

Abstract

Access to quality primary education is a critical component of a nation's development, with implications for social equity and economic progress. This study aims to compare educational policies and practices in primary education across multiple countries, focusing on assessing access and equity. Engaging with magazines, articles, or books to gather research data constitutes the qualitative methodology employed in this study. The data collection approach adopted in this research involves utilizing the literature review method. Technical and source triangulation were implemented to ensure the data's validity. The data analysis technique follows the model proposed by Miles and Huberman, encompassing four stages: data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal significant variations in primary education policies and practices across countries. Successful strategies include targeted financial support for marginalized communities, teacher training programs, and curriculum adaptations that address local needs and cultures. This study underscores the importance of examining and learning from the experiences of different countries to improve access to quality primary education and promote equity. The identified successful strategies can inform policymakers, educators, and stakeholders in designing and implementing more effective policies to ensure all children have equal access to quality primary education. The study ultimately contributes to a broader understanding of the global pursuit of equitable and accessible primary education.

Abstract

Increasing urbanization and technological developments have triggered significant transformations in urban land management, especially in Indonesia's Smart City. This study aims to formulate and implement land optimization strategies by developing attractive tourist destinations in Smart City, Indonesia. This community service research method uses the ABCD (Asset Based Community Development) method, which prioritizes valuable aspects owned by a community, better known as an asset-based approach, with five stages: Discovery, Dream, Planning, Define, and Destiny. The results provide a comprehensive view to support the development of tourist destinations responsive to smart cities in Indonesia, marking an important contribution to sustainable and innovative city development. So, it is concluded that developing smart and sustainable tourist destinations is crucial in maximizing land use in Indonesia's Smart Cities. The integration of smart technology, community participation, and environmental sustainability are key elements in creating tourist destinations that are not only attractive but also contribute to local economic growth and environmental preservation.

Abstract

Digital transformation in the Islamic banking sector is necessary in the era of technological disruption. However, implementing artificial intelligence (AI) still faces challenges, especially in non-metropolitan areas. This research aims to explore the role of AI in transforming digital services at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Semarang Branch, while emphasizing its compliance with maqashid Sharia principles. This research uses a phenomenological qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and analysis of internal documentation of employees and customers. The main findings show that AI significantly improves service efficiency through digital onboarding, chatbot “Hasanah Assistant”, and a pattern-based automated transaction system. This innovation is considered to accelerate services while maintaining the principles of property protection (hifzh al-mal) and life (hifzh al-nafs). However, challenges arise regarding AI’s limited adaptation to local cultural contexts, senior employees’ resistance to digitalization, and customers’ limited digital literacy. This highlights the importance of a hybrid approach between technology and humanization of Islamic banking services. The uniqueness of this research lies in its focus on regional branches that have not been widely explored in the academic literature, as well as its contribution to expanding the understanding of AI as a strategic medium, not just an automation tool. The implications of this research emphasize the need for an efficient, ethical, and inclusive AI system design, oriented towards Islamic values. The research suggests a participatory digital transformation strategy that is adaptive to local values and consistent with maqashid Sharia to ensure the sustainability of technological innovation in Islamic banking.

Abstract

Governmental support programs aimed at enhancing people's economic well-being are essential components of their initiatives. These initiatives are crucial in fostering more prosperous livelihoods for individuals. Nonetheless, issues often arise in the equitable distribution of such aid, primarily due to inaccuracies in identifying eligible recipients. Sikayu Village, located in Comal Subdistrict, Pemalang, is no exception, facing similar challenges in ensuring efficient allocation. That is the main aim of this research which is to examining the problem of social assistance in sikayu village. This study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, employing a case study methodology, incorporating interviews and observations. Sikayu Village encounters various obstacles hindering the attainment of optimal effectiveness, particularly evident in deficient coordination among government bodies responsible for aid distribution and a flawed data management system for beneficiaries. Consequently, there is an imperative need to enhance the management of beneficiary data, bolster community engagement, and, notably, improve interagency coordination to address these shortcomings effectively.
