Abstract

The tradition of Qashidah Burdah reading againsts sick people carried out at the East Sera village is different from the other regions. The difference is the aim of the practice which is more specific and focus to cure disease. It indicates that the tradition of Qashidah Burdah reading carried out at the East Sera village has meaning and function specifications which can not be found in other areas. East Sera society interpret Qashidah Burdah tradition as an alternatif treatment media implemented when the other media treatments (medical and shaman) are not able to cure. In addition, the tradition of Qashidah Burdah reading againsts sick person also has several functions; namely socio-economic function (this media treatment is much cheaper than the others); socio-religious function (it can strengthen monotheism, fortitude and resignation to Allah), and socio-cultural function as a medium for preserving helpfulness attitude, familiarity, and social solidarity. The existence of those functions – both latent and manifest – becomes the reason of why the tradition of Qashidah Burdah reading againsts sick people still continues to be preserved by the people of East Sera.

Abstract

The Setara Institute (in 2018) designated Salatiga City as the number two Tolerant City in Indonesia. The culture of togetherness, as reflected in the celebration of Halal Bihalal and Christmas Together, in the midst of the multi-cultural society of the City of Salatiga is a fundamental factor in the formation of a tolerant and mutually supportive life order. This type of naturalistic qualitative research, using a critical analytical descriptive approach, makes the Pengilon hamlet community its material object. The results of this study found that religious moderation which was manifested in the celebration of halal bihalal and Christmas together, became a medium for preserving the value of tolerance that was so effective for every level of society in Salatiga City. Such a cultural base can guarantee the strength of the four indicators set by the Setara Institute, namely city government regulations; government action; social regulation; and religious demographics, in the ranking of tolerant cities in Indonesia.

Abstract

The triumph of Islamic politics in Andalusia (Spain) is one of the most glorious historical assets of Islam. In addition to the glory of Islam in Baghdad, Andalusia became an important civilization milestone as a bridge for Europe to pick up the enlightenment and golden phase. Although, the contribution of Islam to the glory of Modern Europe is not widely echoed by Western historians, the traces of its history cannot be erased. Through the works of Muslim intellectuals, such as Ibn Rushd, Ibn Bajah, Ibn Khaldun, and so on, Europeans were reminded of the classical traditions of their ancestors. The study of Islamic philosophy initiated by Muslim philosophers succeeded in reviving the classical tradition of Greek philosophy. This kind of scientific climate later became the trigger for the birth of the reform, renaissance, and modernization movements in mainland Europe. Undeniably, the political and intellectual triumph of Islam in Andalusia, which was geographically more accessible to Europeans than the Abbasids in Baghdad, became an important bridge for the rise of Europe to the pinnacle of modern civilization.

Cultivating the values of tolerance towards adolescents, especially through the celebration of Islamic and Christian holidays together, is one of the dominant factors in preserving the culture of tolerance among the people of Salatiga City. This type of naturalistic qualitative research, using a critical analytical descriptive approach, makes the people of Pengilon Village as its material objects. This research found that the celebration of Islamic and Christian holidays in Pengilon turned out to have a different function compared to other regions. Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the history of the batik industry and its impact on the development of Islamic education in Gemeksekti Village, Kebumen District, Kebumen Regency. The method used in this research is the historical method; namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. Historically, the batik industry in Gemeksekti Village has existed and been known since the 19th century as mentioned in the book Batikrapport written by P. De Kat Anggelino in 1930. In the 1960s the batik industry in Gemekseti experienced quite rapid development after receiving support from the Indonesian Batik Cooperative Association (GKBI). This progress also had an impact on the economic welfare of the Gemeksekti Village community. The increasingly improving economic conditions of the Gemekseti community have encouraged several figures and Gemekseti batik entrepreneurs to agree to establish a Compulsory Madrasah Learning (MWB) educational institution and batik entrepreneurs who act as donors. In 1969, due to encouragement from Gemekseti entrepreneurs and the Government on the other hand, this MWB was transformed into the Model State Intidaiyah Madrasah (MIN) in Gemeksekti Village.
