Abstract

Students' ability to solve mathematical problems is the most important part of learning mathematics. Therefore, assessing students' ability to solve mathematical problems is one of the tasks of mathematics teachers that must be done. This study aims to develop a test instrument to assess students' ability to solve mathematical problems. The research method used Systematic Literature Review (SLR) by analyzing primary sources from books and articles. Before developing an instrument to assess students' ability to solve mathematical problems, the variables involved in mathematical problem solving were first analyzed. Furthermore, there are four domains involved in the instrument development framework carried out. They are resources, heuristics, control, and belief system. Based on this study, it was found that: (1) the aspects correlated with mathematical problem solving are reasoning, decision making, critical thinking, and creative thinking; (2) the types of tasks related to mathematical problem solving can be viewed from the structure, the number of essential steps needed to reach the solution, its orientation, and its presentation.

Abstract

Reversible thinking is a cognitive activity in finding a solution to a problem by arranging the direction of logical thinking from the end to the starting point. Reversible thinking requires a student to think logically in two ways. Therefore, reversible thinking influences students' success in solving problems. This study aims to identify students' thinking processes in solving problems that require reversible thinking ability. This research was conducted on junior high school students in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, using test instruments, interviews, and documentation studies. The tests given consisted of two types of problems, including tests on forward-thinking problems and tests on reversible thinking problems. The research subjects were students with high average mathematics scores in their class. The study found that students could answer the tests on forward-thinking problem-solving very well but could not work on similar questions with the backward-thinking process. Based on the interview results, one of the causes for the need for more backward-thinking ability is the limited learning resources or context when students first learn the concept.

Abstract

Problem solving ability is still relevant to the needs of today's education world. But until now, Indonesian students' problem-solving ability is still relatively low. The objective of this study is to recognize the challenges encountered by students in terms of the level of mathematical ability of diverse students in one class using Polya's stages. The approach adopted for this study is qualitative, utilizing a phenomenological perspective. Data collection techniques used triangulation in the form of tests and interviews. The research participants were 14 students with diverse mathematical abilities from the superior class. From the results of the analyzes, it can be concluded that students with high mathematical ability experience errors when performing calculations, namely lack of accuracy in operating signs and numbers, while students with moderate mathematical ability have difficulty determining the right solution strategy and linking concepts to check the answers obtained. Finally, students with low mathematical ability had difficulty starting from understanding the problem so that they were unable to work on the problem at all.

Abstract

Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that combines real and virtual elements to create a hybrid experience. Research has shown that AR can improve spatial abilities, assist learning, and increase motivation in students. It has also been demonstrated to facilitate collaborative learning and the evolution of learning in mathematics. The purpose of this study is to analyze the status and trends of AR research in mathematics education over the past 20 years. AR has been studied extensively and has many potentials uses in education and learning, but it may be used more frequently in certain situations or for specific goals. The study used Scopus and PRISMA to conduct a systematic review of articles and Biblioshiny software for bibliometric analysis, including co-citation and co-author analysis. The research on augmented reality in mathematics education has grown steadily over the past 20 years and has had a significant impact, with an average of 13.74 citations per document. It has also been conducted and disseminated internationally and has seen a recent increase in publications. The most relevant source for this research is "Journal of Physics: Conference Series”. Indonesia is the most productive country in this research, followed by Mexico and China. Keywords in the research include "mathematics education," "augmented reality," and "teaching and learning."
