Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, housing is not only a protector and a shelter; it also accommodates all activities, both working and studying. The changes that have occurred as a result of the stay-at-home policy have made residents make various changes to their activities and adjustments to their homes. This study aims to reveal the correlational relationship between perceptions of satisfaction, changes in activities, and housing adjustments during the COVID-19 pandemic. so that it can be determined what the pattern of behaviour in the house was during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses qualitative methods in the first stage and quantitative methods in the second stage. The first stage investigates all changes in activity and adjustments made in the house during the pandemic. The second stage reveals the relationship between activities, mental adjustment, and perceived satisfaction in housing, including productive groups, family-oriented groups, and self-oriented groups. Productive groups tend to correlate with forms of adaptation in the form of cleaning activities, semi-public activities, and adjustments through the configuration of space and functions. Then, closeness to a family group tends to correlate with diversification activities such as online activities, online shopping, cleaning activities, room cleanliness, and increased space privacy. Meanwhile, self-oriented groups tend to correlate with activities in the room, recreational activities, and privacy enhancements. The behavioural patterns of occupants in housing during the COVID-19 pandemic that were found in this study can contribute to future residential design considerations.

Abstract

AbstractThe Covid-19 pandemic has had impacts in the human life. To reduce the Covid-19 transmission virus, most of the community activities outside home and meeting with people have shifted to be carried out the home. This new habit makes various changes in activities and adjustments in housing that have been carried out as form of adaptation to the pandemic. This study aims to explore the changes in activities and adjustments in the housing during the pandemic era. This study is using qualitattive explorative method. Data was collected using an open online questionnaire. The data analysis was carried out in three steps, such as open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The findings show that there are four groups of activity change and housing adjustment in the Covid-19 pandemic era, including recreational group, productive group, health care group, and close to family group. This research contribute as a consideration in planning and designing residential in the pandemic and post-Covid-19 eras.Keywords: Housing, adaptation, adjustment, pandemic Covid-19AbstrakPandemi Covid-19 telah memberi dampak bagi kehidupan manusia. Untuk mengurangi penularan virus Covid-19, kegiatan masyarakat di luar hunian dan bertemu dengan orang banyak sebagian besar telah beralih dilakukan di dalam hunian. Kebiasaan baru ini membawa berbagai perubahan kegiatan dan penyesuaian di dalam hunian banyak dilakukan sebagai bentuk adaptasi terhadap pandemi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi perubahan kegiatan dan penyesuaian pada hunian di era pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif bersifat eksploratif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner daring yang bersifat terbuka. Tahap analisis data dilakukan dengan tiga tahap yakni open coding, axial coding, dan selective coding. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa terdapat empat kelompok perubahan kegiatan dan penyesuaian hunian di era pandemi Covid-19, diantaranya kelompok rekreatif, kelompok produktif, kelompok peduli kesehatan, dan kelompok dekat dengan keluarga. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat berkontribusi sebagai pertimbangan dalam perencanaan dan perancangan hunian di era pandemi maupun pascapandemi Covid-19.Kata kunci: Hunian, adaptasi, penyesuaian, pandemi Covid-19

Abstract

Abstract: Anne Lacaton and Jean Philippe Vassal are French architects renowned for their "freedom of use" approach in their works. This concept rejects conventional spatial standards and emphasizes spatial generosity, economic efficiency, and sustainability in the design of living spaces. This article aims to examine the application of the "freedom of use" concept in their major projects through a qualitative literature study. The analysis focuses on identifying key principles and their contributions to architectural practice. The findings indicate that this approach holds significant potential in creating flexible, participatory spaces centered on user well-being, while also offering sustainable design alternatives in a global context. Konsep ini menolak standar spasial konvensional dan menekankan prinsip kedermawanan ruang, efisiensi ekonomi, serta keberlanjutan dalam mendesain ruang hidup. Artikel ini bertujuan mengkaji penerapan konsep "freedom of use" dalam proyek-proyek utama mereka dengan pendekatan studi literatur kualitatif. Analisis difokuskan pada identifikasi prinsip-prinsip utama dan kontribusinya terhadap praktik arsitektur. Hasil studi menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan ini memiliki potensi besar dalam menghasilkan ruang yang fleksibel, partisipatif, dan berorientasi pada kesejahteraan pengguna, serta menawarkan alternatif desain berkelanjutan dalam konteks global.
