Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Mega Bat (Pteropodidae) Distribution on Several Land Coverage at Surrounding KerinciNational Park. The study of bats was carried out on May 2005 to July 2005. In all 5 major landuse system (primary forest, disturbed forest, old rubber plantation, young rubber plantationand mix garden) survey was conducted using the same standardized mistnetting. Each of theland use system was sampled for 4 days using 4 mist-nets a night. The total of 2512.5 m2 ofmist-nets night area were set during this survey. A total of 156 bat individuals which consist of14 specieses and 5 families (Pteropodidae, Vespertilonidae, Emballonuridae, Hipposideridaeand Rhinolophidae) acquired. Calculation result using the diversity index measurement frombat samples indicate that the highest diversity was in disturbed forest habitat (H’=1.831;E=0,865) and the lowest was in forest habitat (H’=0.5; E=0.561), meanwhile the biggestdominancy reside in the young rubber plantation (?=0.767) and disturbed forest had the lowestdominancy (?=0,138). The most dominant at young rubber plantation habitat is Cynopterusbrachyotis. The result of clustering analysis using SPSS 11.5 showed that habitat type weredivided become 2 clusters which were old rubber and non old forest (forest, disturbed forest, young rubber plantation and mix garden). This division showed that forest and non forest hada distinctively different habitat. According to Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) byusing Canoco for Windows version 4.5 indicated that physical parameter such as temperature, humidity, rainfall and altitude influenced the distribution, commnunity and clustering of batsfor land use systemKey words: Bats, diversity, Kerinci Seblat National Park, land use type, rubber plantation

Abstract

Abstract Frigatebird is one of seabird species found in Pulau Rambut Wildlife Reserve (SMPR). The bird activities include roost in fish pole, flying, foraging in the ocean and also roosting in SMPR at night. The aim of this research was to know roosting site used by frigatebird while at SMPR. This research was conducted in SMPR, Jakarta on August and September 2010 by descriptive method and survey techniques. Data was collected directly on the object of research. Frigatebird population was calculated directly by counting individuals one by one as they flew low in the air over SMPR. Frigatebird roosting site was also researched directly by observing frigatebird when going to roost. Furthermore, vegetation analysis was also conducted on trees in roosting site. Based on our obsevations, the population of frigatebird obtained in SMPR ranged between 87-193 birds. Frigatebird utilize Sterculia foetida tree to be used as a place to roost. This roosting site located in mixed secondary forest to the west and south SMPR close to mangrove forest. Average of height and diameter of S. foetida tree used to roost is 23.47 m and 42.26 cm. There were commonly 3 species of tree of frigatebird roosting site namely Ficus sp. (INP 16.91%), Allophylus cobbe (INP 16.78%) dan Diospyros maritima (INP 14.23). Abstract

Abstract Ecological studies of reptiles in Java were rarely executed during the last decade, because many scientist have focused exclusively on taxonomical studies. Also, studies about diversity of reptiles which have been heretofore published mostly incorporated with amphibians, and nearly all of those studies concerning in unravel the diversity of amphibians. In Bodogol, Gede- Pangrango National Park, survey about reptiles diversity have been done frequently, but just few researches that have been published and most of all were short term research studies. Hence, a research that concern in studying diversity of reptiles become valuable to carry out. Herein, we studied the diversity of reptiles in Bodogol during November 2011 to March 2012. Reptiles’ species were collected by searching in available trail other than Tangkil, Cipanyairan I, and Cipanyairan II. Total of twenty three species of reptiles were found, encompassing six families (Colubridae, Elapidae, Viperidae, Scincidae, Agamidae, and Gekkonidae). Number species of reptiles occured in Bodogol were quite similar to other largest nature reserve areas within the same geographic range (e.g. Halimun-Salak and Ujung Kulon National Park). Despite its small in size, Bodogol contains various types of habitat which therefore could support a variety species of reptiles. Key words : bodogol, diversity, reptiles, java

Abstract

ABSTRACT Eclectus is one of many birds in Indonesia. The condition at captive may vary to the bird’s natural habitat. The objective of this research was to find out the comparison of daily behavior between two males Eclectus parrot at Ragunan Zoological park. Each males has different condition. The first male has a competitior in its cage, and the second male hasn’t. This research conducted January 2015 until March 2015. The behavior were ingestive, movement, motionless, and sexual. The descriptive method was used in this study. The focal animal sampling was used as a technique for recording those behavior. U Mann Whitney statistical test (p< 0,05) showed there are significant differences in the frequency of motionless and sexual behavior between male with competitor and male with no competitor. However, there is no significant diffrences in ingestive and movement behavior (p< 0,05). Keywords : Eclectus parrot, behavior, competitor, Ragunan

Abstract

ABSTRACT Brahminy Kite (Haliastur indus) is included in protected wild species list. Concervation is an alternative way to save this species from being extinct. The objective of this research was to find out the comparison of daily behaviour between male and female Brahminy Kite at Ragunan Zoo- Jakarta such as three activities. These behaviours were motionless, movement and ingestive. The descriptive method was used in this study, by direct observation to the behaviour of individual bird. The focal animal sampling was used as a method for recording behaviour, which means observing one individual for a specified amount of frequence and recording all instance of its behaviour. The observation was carried out on 2 birds with sex male and female. Each individual’s bird was observed each day from 06.00 to 18.00. Data analysis used descriptive analysis and nonparametric statistics analysis with U Mann-Whitney Test. The result of this analysis indicated if there were comparison of motionless behaviour and movement behaviour between male and female Brahminy Kite, where testing criteria Eject H , density is 0.00 < α, level was significance but there was not comparison of ingestive behaviour between male and female Brahminy Kite. Density is 0.38 > α,level was insignificant Keyword : the comparison, daily behaviour, Brahminy Kite, Ragunan zoo

Abstract

Javan gibbon is one of an endemic species of Java with kind of unique vocalizations. Supported by a study which showed that every individual has the different anatomy vocal tract that will produce a different sound. Character vocalizations formed from the structure of vocalizations vary between individuals would be the identity of an individual so that there will be effective communication between the giver signal to the receiver. The objective of research is to find out the structure variation of Javan gibbon vocalizations. The research was accomplished in August-September 2015 at the Petungkriyono Protected Forest, Pekalongan, Central Java. The method used is the Focal Continuous sampling. Ratio coefficient of variation within and between female, indicates that the variable vocalizations vary between individuals, and the correct rate of individual identification yielded bydiscriminant function analysis using variable vocalizations was satisfactory (94,4%). Variable vocalization differentiatoris total great call duration (8,99-13,53 s), total great call duration excluding termination phase, duration pre-trill phase, duration introduction note (0,147-0,612 s), frequency range introduction note (408,54-1209,6 Hz), minimal frequency introduction note, maximal frequency introduction note, minimal frequency second trill note, minimal frequency at end of trill note, and minimal frequency range in trill. These vocalizations potentially allow individual recognition of animals.

Abstract

Borneo has wide land that support high biodiversity. One of them is Tanjung Puting National Park (TPNP), which have biodiversity such as terrestrial mammalian carnivore. Carnivore has a role to maintain its ecosystems. But, there are no data for population density of terrestrial mammalian carnivore. The object of this research is to find out population density of terrestrial mammalian carnivore in Camp Leakey, TPNP, Central Borneo. This research accomplished in September-October 2015 in Camp Leakey. Using line-transect sampling. Data collection was accomplished at 18.00-24.00 Central Indonesian Time (WITA) on eight transects with three times replication by direct surveys and indirect surveys. This research has obtained five species, malayan sun bear (Helarctos malayanus), sunda clouded leopard (Neofelis diardi), leopard cat, and group of civet, like small-toothed palm civet (Arctogalidia trivirgata) and asian palm civet (Paradoxurus hermaphroditus). Population density of each species from the highest to the lowest is 13,5 Individual of leopard cat/km2, 9,84 Individual of malayan sun bears/km2, 4,31 Individual of sunda clouded leopard/km2, and 3,65 Individual of civet/km2. Malayan sun bears, sunda clouded leopards and civets prefer to be in land forest. Leopard cats prefers to be in transition forest.
