Abstract

AbstractThis paper is motivated by the fact that the Quran is the holy book of Islam that is relevant beyond time and space. It is a source of way of life for Muslims. Along with the course of time, to keep the spirit of the Qur'an relevant to the problems of the present, the interpretation of the Quran must be done, accompanied by the process of its contextualization instead of its being ideology. In fact, some people interpret the Qur'an with biases rooted in their ideological backgrounds. The meaning of the Qur'an is often contaminated by ideological interests of its interpreters. As a result, Muslims accused each other of infidelity and heresy. Hermeneutics as a science which deals with the activities of interpretation is supposed to be able to glue the wide spectrum of the activities. This paper focuses the discussion on the feasibility  of hermeneutics in the interpretation of the Quran. It argues that some of the positive principles of interpretation in hermeneutics are feasible for the interpretation of the Quran. The purpose of the hermeneutical interpretation of the Qur'an is to purify the Qur'an from the ideological interests of its interpreters. Tulisan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fakta bahwa al-Qur’an adalah kitab suci agama Islam yang cocok untuk segala ruang dan waktu. Ia adalah pedoman hidup bagi umat Islam dalam menjalankan kehidupan. Seiring dengan terjadinya dinamisasi masa, untuk menjaga semangat al-Qur’an agar senantiasa relevan dengan problematika zaman, penafsiran atasnya harus dilakukan dengan disertai proses kontekstualisasi tanpa disertai ideologisasi. Faktanya, beberapa pihak menafsirkan al-Qur’an dengan kecondongan tertentu sebagai akibat pengaruh latar belakang ideologi yang dianut. Maksud dan makna al-Qur’an yang suci dikotori oleh kepentingan ideologi penafsirnya. Akibatnya, saling menghukumi dan mengkafirkan antaraliran sering terjadi di kalangan umat Islam. Hermeneutika sebagai ilmu yang membahas kegiatan interpretasi dipandang mampu merekatkan kembali aliran-aliran tersebut. Dari latar belakang tersebut, tulisan ini membahas fisibilitas hermeneutika dalam penafsiran al-Qur’an. Penulis melihat bahwa beberapa prinsip interpretasi dalam hermeneutika dapat digunakan dalam penafsiran al-Qur’an. Salah satu tujuan hermeneutika dalam penafsiran al-Qur’an adalah menghindarkan al-Qur’an dari pengaruh destruktif ideologi penafsirnya.

Abstract

In this modern era appeared the modern thinker of Muslims who are trying to respond to the development of modern science with different points of view such as Zia Eddin Sardar, Seyyed Hossein Nasr and others. One such modern Muslim thinker is Nidal Guessoum. Through his book Islam's Quantum Question: Reconciling Muslim Tradition and Modern Science, the author attempted to reconcile Islam and science, which have been in conflict with each other in terms of the truth of knowledge since time immemorial. Islam believes that the source of reality of knowledge is the text (the Qur’an and Hadith), and science believes that the source of reality of knowledge is the mind. Through this launch, Nidal researched in-depth and integrative research on the position of Islam in looking at science, and most of his research revolves around natural sciences such as physics, development theory, global principles (Antropik Principle, Philosophy of Modern Science) and other natural sciences. With his accurate and profound background in the beauty of physical science and astronomy, Nidal presented some philosophical questions about the universality of the modern world, either from the perspective of philosophy or from the perspective of applied sciences.

Abstract

Bahasa merupakan rangkain bunyi yang mempunyai maknaterrtentu. Rangkain bunyi yang dikenal sebagai kata, melambangkan suatukonsep. Kumpulan lambang bunyi, dalam pemikirannya, tidak terlepas dariyang satu dengan yang lainnya. Kata-kata itu kemudian dipergunakan dalamsuatu sistem yang terpola. Walaupun bunyi-bunyi bahasa itu di gunakan sudahbenar dan sesuai dengan konvensi (kesepakatan pengguna bahasa), tetapi bilahubungan antar kata-katanya itu tidak berpola, maka proses komunikasi tidakakan berjalan dengan baik. Semenata Pikiran bisa dikatakan sebagai prosespengolahan stimulus yang berlangsung dalam domain representasi utama. Prosestersebut dapat dikatagorikan sebagai proses perhitungan (computational process).Dalam prakteknya bahasa digunakan sebagai media manusia untuk berpikirsecara abstrak yang memungkinkan objek-objek faktual ditransformasikan kedalam simbol-simbol abstrak. Dengan adanya bahasa kita dapat memikirkansesuatu meskipun objek yang kita pikirkan itu tidak berada di dekat kita.Dengan simbol-simbol bahasa yang abstrak, manusia dapat memikirkan sesuatusecara terus-menerus dan kemudian mewariskan pengalamannya itu kepadagenerasi-generasi berikutnya. manusia dapat pula mengkomunikasikan sesuatuyang dipikirkan dan dapat pula belajar sesuatu dari orang lain. Terdapatbeberapa pengelompokan keterkaitan bahasa dengan Pikiran, yaitu: (a) BahasaMemengaruhi Pikiran. Pemahaman terhadap kata mempengaruhi pikirannyaterhadap realitas. Pikiran manusia dapat terkondisiikan oleh kata yang manusiagunakan. Tokoh yang mendukung hubungan ini adalah Benjamin Whorf dangurunya, Edward Sapir. (b) Pikiran Memengaruhi Bahasa.kemampuan manusiaberpikir muncul lebih awal ditinjau dari aspek evolusi dan berlangsung belakangandari aspek perkembangannya dibandingkan kemampuan menggunakan bahasa.(c) Bahasa dan pikiran saling mempengaruhibahasa dan pikiran pada tahap permulaan berkembang secara terpisah dan tidak saling mempengaruhi. Jadi, mulamula pikiran berkembang tanpa bahasa, dan bahasa mula-mula berkembang tanpapikiran. Lalu pada tahap berikutnya, keduanya bertemu dan saling bekerja sama,serta saling mempengaruhi.

Abstract

We are delighted to introduce and launch Besari: Journal of Social and Cultural Studies through this inaugural article. Here we briefly present the legacy left by Kiai Ageng Muhammad Besari of Pesantren Tegalsari in Ponorogo, Indonesia, and its significance and importance on current ideas and realities, especially about the development of Islam in Indonesia and Indonesian Islam. By perpetuating the name of the kiai as this journal name, we do not only expect to inherit the legacy, but also understand the value behind the name, Besari, which contains concepts of ukhuwah basyariyah, the brotherhood of humanity, Islam as a religion of salvation, and humanitarian Islam. Therefore, through this inaugural article, we are delighted to introduce Besari: Journal of Social and Cultural Studies to those feeling invited to answer the call for humanity, call for Besari.

Abstract

This article examines the reciprocal relationship between the commodification of religion and philanthropic practices at integrated Islamic primary schools within the Integrated Islamic Schools Network (JSIT) in Ponorogo, East Java. Using an ethnographic case study, the research focuses on middle-class Muslim families to understand how religious and philanthropic activities are transformed into commodities. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving middle-class Muslims and educators from the tarbiyah community, affiliated with the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). The study reveals that the rise of the Muslim middle class in Ponorogo, reflecting broader national trends, is shaped by political, cultural, and ideological dynamics. A key finding is the transformation of parental philanthropy into a form of “social piety,” where giving is reframed as both religious devotion and social responsibility. Schools and educators actively cultivate this practice by repackaging Islamic values into attractive commodities that align with middle-class aspirations. The study contributes by showing how philanthropy functions not only as an economic resource but also as a cultural and political instrument in shaping Muslim middle-class identity. It advances debates on the commodification of religion and highlights the socio-political role of philanthropy in contemporary Indonesian Islam.
