Abstract

Abstract: Product quality is a key factor in achieving customer satisfaction and enhancing a company's competitiveness. CV. Cahaya Setia Mulia Abadi, a manufacturer of golf gloves, continues to experience a product defect rate of 12.06%, indicating the need for a systematic quality control approach. This study aims to identify the types and causes of product defects and propose improvement strategies using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) method supported by the Statistical Quality Control (SQC) approach. The Plan stage employed quality control tools, including check sheets, P-Charts, Pareto diagrams, and Fishbone diagrams, while the Do, Check, and Action stages were used to develop improvement proposals through the 5W+1H matrix and the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The results revealed three major defect types: holes (55%), remaining threads (30%), and cutting defects (15%). The P-Chart analysis indicated that the production process was not yet fully under, while the Fishbone analysis identified human, machine, method, material, and work environment as the primary causes of defects. The proposed improvements include developing SOPs, strengthening production supervision, implementing regular machine maintenance, improving raw material quality control, and standardizing work methods. Therefore, the implementation of the PDCA method supported by SQC effectively identified the root causes of product defects and provided improvement recommendations to support continuous product quality improvement. Keywords: Quality Control, PDCA, Statistical Quality Control (SQC), control chart, Pareto diagram, Fishbone diagram.

Abstract

PT Adi Satria Abadi, a leather glove manufacturer, continues to experience product defects during its production activities. This study aims to identify the most frequent defects, evaluate the effectiveness of quality control, analyze the factors contributing to product defects, and recommend corrective actions. Statistical Quality Control (SQC) was employed using check sheets, Pareto diagrams, histograms, p-charts, scatter diagrams, fishbone diagrams, and 5W+1H analysis. The study found that 20,883 defective products were recorded out of 220,839 units produced. Misplaced stitching was the most common defect (41.22%), followed by skewed defects (31.19%), non-oval defects (17.15%), and wrinkled defects (10.44%). The p-chart indicated that the production process was not entirely under statistical control due to one point exceeding the upper control limit (UCL), while the scatter diagram showed a positive relationship between production volume and defect occurrence. Fishbone analysis identified human, method, machine, material, and environmental factors as the main causes of defects, with human and method factors contributing the most. Improvement proposals generated through the 5W+1H method include operator training, stricter SOP implementation, preventive maintenance, tighter material inspection, and improvements to the workplace environment. These recommendations are expected to reduce product defects and improve product quality. Keywords: Statistical Quality Control (SQC), quality control, leather gloves, product defects, fishbone diagram

Abstract

The golf glove sewing production line at PT XYZ experienced line imbalance, as indicated by differences in workstation cycle times that caused bottlenecks, high idle time, and low line efficiency. This study aimed to improve production line performance by applying three heuristic line balancing methods: Ranked Positional Weight (RPW), Largest Candidate Rule (LCR), and Region Approach (RA). Line performance was evaluated using line efficiency, balance delay, idle time, smoothness index, and the number of workstations. The initial production line consisted of 12 workstations with a line efficiency of 67.63%, a balance delay of 32.37%, a smoothness index of 50.78, and a total idle time of 159.81 seconds.

Abstract

Abstract

PT. Indonesia Plafon Semesta is a company engaged in the production and distribution of building materials in the form of ceilings made of Polyvinyl Clorida (PVC). At the beginning of April 2023, all activities in and out of goods that occur in the warehouse produce a total distance of 2659.5 m / day with a total Material handling Cost (OMH) of Rp. 6,871,200 / day, if this happens repeatedly within 1 month (26 working times) it will get a total distance of 69147 m with a total cost of Material handling (OMH) of Rp. 95,063,527. The layout of this warehouse also does not use an optimal layout, because it only places goods that come in empty space so that it hampers warehouse activities. The shared storage method is based on the condition of the warehouse floor area, then sorted the closest area to the area farthest from the I/O entrance so that the placement of goods that will be sent immediately is placed in the closest area and so on. The design of the right layout is by bringing the raw materials closer to the largest value based on the assignment value, using rectilinier calculations in the shared storage method obtaining a total distance of 2361.5 m / day, then for the resulting OMH which is Rp. 81,893,093 / month, thus the total distance from the warehouse area to the mixer area becomes 61.399 m / month

Abstract

. CV. XYZ is a company that produces 50 kg NPK fertilizer packaging and still experiences packaging defects, particularly sewing defects and weighing defects. This study aims to analyze quality control, identify the causes of defects, and determine improvement priorities using Statistical Quality Control (SQC), Fishbone Diagram, and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA). The data used were collected from February23 to April 14, 2026, with a total production of 2,739 bags and 580 defective bags, consisting of 459 sewing defects and 121 weighing defects. The results of the p-controlchart indicate that the process is not yet statistically controlled, as shown by severalpoints falling outside the control limits for sewing defects (CL = 0.168, UCL = 0.189,LCL = 0.146) and weighing defects (CL = 0.044, UCL = 0.056, LCL = 0.032). Fishboneanalysis revealed that the causes of defects originated from human, machine, method, material, and environmental factors. The FMEA results showed that the highest RiskPriority Number (RPN) values for sewing defects were machine malfunction (280) andloose thread (210), while for weighing defects they were improper gate valve settings(240) and fertilizer accumulation in the hopper (192). The proposed improvementsinclude implementing preventive maintenance, inspecting the gate valve, checkingthread conditions, and controlling fertilizer flow and hopper capacity to reduce defectrates and improve product quality.
