Abstract

A descriptive research that aims to describe: (1) the level of teacher questions based on gender and teaching experience; (2) students’ response to the level of teacher question; (3) teacher’s ability to apply basic and advance questioning skills based on gender and teaching experience has been implemented in Junior High School. About 20 science teachers who teach in 8th grade of Junior High School come from 9 schools have been involved this study. Data were collected through observation and questionnary. The results showed that Junior High School science teacher mostly used low-level cognitive questions (85,8%). A few of other used high-level cognitive questions (14,2%). There was no difference even gender and teaching experience. In level questions, teacher mostly asked about structure (42,80%) and organ (34,20%). A few of other asked about mechanism (18,40%) and desease (18,40%) in circulatory system chapter. Mostly students' response to the level of teacher questions were simultaneous (93.88%), with scientific answer was very low category (39,80%). In basic skills components, teacher mostly used spread with very low category (10%). In advanced questioning skills components have changed the level of cognitive demand (35%), usage tracking questions with various techniques (15%), and improving the interaction (50%) were very low category. There were no differences basic and advanced asking skills even gender and teaching experience.

Abstract

Parenting styles were considered as one of important factors in determining students’ performance in science, especially in elementary school. This study aimed to explain the teacher's questioning skills and student’ responses in science subject based on parenting styles in elementary schools in Batam. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted in the first semester of academic year 2017/2018 and involved four classroom teachers and 109 students. The data collection techniques used were questionnaire and observation. The findings of this study showed that the teacher questioning skills in science subject in elementary schools in Batam were good enough. Meanwhile, the highest frequent parenting style used was authoritarian (94.83%). Yet the style led the students to be less active in learning processes.

Abstract

Keberadaan hutan mangrove di Kota Batam saat ini terus mengalami degradasi akibat lajunya pembangunan. Salah satu wilayah Pesisir di Kota Batam yang mengalami degradasi mangrove adalah Pulau Ngenang Kelurahan Ngenang Kecamatan Nongsa Kota Batam. Eksplotasi sumberdaya hutan mangrove yang tidak terkendali akan menurunkan kualitas dan kuantitas ekosistem. Untuk itu diperlukan upaya konservasi guna mempertahankan keberadaannya. Salah satu upaya konservasi yang dapat dilakukan adalah sistem mina hutan (silvofishery) pemeliharaan kepiting bakau (Scylla spp). Usaha silvofishery ini potensial untuk dikembangkan dan memiliki peluang pasar terbuka luas dan prospektif, baik domestik maupun mancanegara. Tujuan dari program pendampingan ini memberikan ilmu pengetahuan tekhnologi dan keterampilan kepada masyarakat mitra, memberikan pemahaman pemanfaatkan sumberdaya hutan mangrove secara optimal dan lestari, meningkatkan alternatif mata pencaharian (alternative livelyhood) dan peluang kerja bagi masyarakat pesisir. Metode kegiatan meliputi: 1) Sosialisasi dan demonstrasi, yang terdiri dari kegiatan : penyiapan tambak budidaya, Penyiapan kandang ( box kepiting), pengelolaan usaha dengan menerapkan manajemen usaha yang baik, penyediaan bibit, dan pemeliharaan. 2). Pemantauan dan evaluasi dan 3). Pemanenan. Hasil analisis menunjukkan adanya perubahan sikap dan pengetahuan kelompok nelayan dari yang kurang mengetahui menjadi cukup banyak mengetahui usaha budidaya, melalui sistem silvofishery dapat menjaga dan mempertahankan lelestarian hutan mangrove, dan memberikan peluang usaha bagi masyarakat.
