Abstract

Critical thinking is important because it enables individuals to analyze information objectively, make well-reasoned decisions, and solve problems effectively. But, it is a decline in international learning outcomes due to the pandemic. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of using an e-module on the diversity of living things to enhance students' critical thinking skills and learning independence. The research design used was quasi-experimental with a nonequivalent control group design. Two groups with a total of 74 students were selected for this study using purposive sampling. The instruments used in this research included a written test to assess critical thinking skills and a questionnaire to evaluate learning independence. The data analysis conducted included an independent samples t-test and an n-gain test. Based on the results of an independent samples t-test, there is a significant difference between the two groups in students' critical thinking skills and learning independence. N-gain tests also support these findings, with critical thinking skills scores of 0.60 in the experimental class and 0.57 in the control class. Additionally, learning independence scores were 0.78 for the experimental class and 0.36 for the control class. It can be concluded that there is a significant positive effect of using the e-module on the diversity of living things to enhance students' critical thinking skills and learning independence.

Abstract

Science and mathematics are fundamental disciplines that students must master, as they involve not only cognitive processes but also reasoning and problem-solving skills essential to 21st-century education. However, various studies indicate a need to increase students’ interest in these two disciplines. This community service activity aims to enhance students' interest in science and mathematics through hands-on activities conducted at two primary schools, namely MI Al Ulum Bandongan and MI Al Muta’alimin. The method applied in this activity comprises four stages: the partner problem observation stage, the preparation stage, the implementation stage, and the evaluation stage. The results of this activity show enthusiasm, participation, and a positive response from teachers and pupils towards its implementation. This response indicates a first step towards increasing interest in learning science and mathematics through hands-on activities. This activity also has the advantage of using simple tools and readily available materials, so it can be adapted by teachers and supported with systematic worksheets.

Abstract

Konsep pewarisan sifat merupakan salah satu konsep fundamental dalam pembelajaran genetika yang perlu dipahami oleh mahasiswa calon guru IPA. Namun, karateristik konsep yang abstrak dan perlu penalaran yang mendalam menyebabkan pemahaman konseptual mahasiswa cenderung rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis secara deskriptif pemahaman konseptual pewarisan sifat Mendel mahasiswa calon guru IPA. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan subjek penelitian sejumlah 40 mahasiswa calon guru IPA yang telah menempuh mata kuliah genetika makhluk hidup. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah tes uraian dengan mengacu pada 4 subkonsep pewarisan sifat Mendel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata secara keseluruhan pemahaman konseptual mahasiswa calon guru IPA mencapai 47,22% pada kategori sedang. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa terdapat lebih dari separuh mahasiswa yang belum memiliki pemahaman konseptual yang memadai terkait konsep pewarisan sifat Mendel, sehingga perlu ada perhatian yang lebih besar dalam proses pembelajaran konsep ini sebagai upaya untuk mengoptimalkan tujuan pembelajaran dan kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia.

Abstract

Polusi udara akibat aktivitas kendaraan bermotor merupakan salah satu faktor lingkungan yang memengaruhi anatomi daun tanaman perkotaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik stomata empat spesies Tabebuia spp. (T. aurea T. heterophylla, T. rosea, dan T. roseoalba) yang tumbuh di area terpolusi dan relatif bebas polusi di daerah urban Magelang. Penelitian menggunakan metode observasi deskriptif komparatif dengan teknik preparasi varnish dan pengamatan mikroskop cahaya. Setiap spesies diambil pengulangan sampel sebanyak enam kali pada masing-masing lokasi. Parameter yang diamati meliputi morfologi, ukuran, kerapatan, dan indeks stomata. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa seluruh spesies memiliki tipe stomata anomositik. T. aurea dan T. roseoalba menunjukkan peningkatan kerapatan dan indeks stomata pada area terpolusi, sedangkan T. heterophylla dan T. rosea mengalami penurunan ukuran dan indeks stomata. Pola adaptasi yang berbeda ini menunjukkan bahwa respons stomatal terhadap polusi bersifat spesifik antarspesies, dan Tabebuia spp.
