Abstract

This paper aims at describing the 15 sophomore’s perception on the pronunciation practice at STKIP Paracendekia NW Sumbawa. The research adopts qualitative method with descriptive method. To obtain data, questionnaires, pronunciation test, and observation are applied. Twelve items of closed-ended questions are distributed to the participants. The study reveals that the participants encounter difficulty in pronunciation practice since their lack of phonetics ability. Specifically, they consider vowel sounds more difficult to practice than the consonant ones. Besides, the phonemes /3/and /?/ are found to be the most difficult vowel sounds to practice whereas the phonemes /?/ and /ð/ are the most difficult consonant ones. Meanwhile, their common techniques used during learning the course as well as the lecture’s method are considered helpful even though some more development is required. Furthermore, the sophomores are expected to increase their frequency of use of a standardized-IPA (International Phonetics Association)-dictionary and focus on a certain English variant.

Abstract

Indonesian Student Entrepreneurial Activities (KBMI) is one of the government programs in order to encourage the emergence of young entrepreneurs in universities. This grant is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (kemdikbud) through the Directorate General of Belmawa. Every student has the opportunity to participate in KBMI. However, not all students know the information about this grant. So we feel the need to introduce as well as provide training to students to prepare KBMI grant proposals. With this activity, it is hoped that students will be more motivated to become entrepreneurs and be able to make proposals as well as possible. This activity was carried out in February 2021 in the hall of the STKIP Pracendikia NW Sumbawa, attended by students and prospective supervisors. The activities run smoothly and according to plan. Participants were very enthusiastic and followed the activity until the end. Activities like this are expected to become routine activities to increase student motivation in entrepreneurship and participate in student grants.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to obtaining knowledge of medical worlds or some terms of medical jargons used by the paramedics of Primary Health Care (PHC) in Tarano. Overall, the problem identified in this study is that how the form, meaning, and function of medical jargons are used by the PHC in Tarano. In this study, qualitative descriptive method is employed in analyzing the data. There are 15 terms identified within the paramedic’s conversation that is recorded during the study. To collect the data, three techniques are applied, i.e. transcription, observation and interview. The conversations are transcribed and observation sheet is applied during the observation. Meanwhile, the process of interview is recorded. Thus, all data from transcription, observation and interview are analyzed. The results of study show that the terms in the medical jargons are classified into three points, those are the form, meaning, and function of terms in the medical jargons. Firstly, the form of the terms in the medical jargons is analyzed based on the term source of language and how it derives. The term sources or language element of the medical jargons i.e. Indonesian common vocabulary and foreign language vocabulary. Furthermore, the process of the medical jargons formation consists of three forms, i.e. single, complex, and abbreviation which comprise of shorting, fragment, and acronym. Secondly, the meaning of the medical jargons found is the term meaning since its meaning is definite, clear, and unambiguous even without the context of the sentence. Lastly, there are three functions of the medical jargons used by the paramedics in Primary Health Care (PHC) in Tarano, i.e. informative function, heuristic function, and regulation function.

Abstract

This research focuses on teaching methods used by three teachers of Basic English Structure. This study aims to answering the following research questions: (i) What are the methods of teachers in teaching Basic English Structure using Moodle system; (ii) How do the methods facilitate the teachers to teaching Basic English Structure using the Moodle. This study adopts qualitative research with descriptive approach. Three teachers and three students are interviewed whereas their working on online teaching is observed and then other supporting data are documented. The results of this study identifies that (1) teachers deliver material by three methods intensively (The most frequently-used method is Video Based Learning in speech delivery and Assignment Method for learning evaluation); (2) The role of the teaching methods involves ease of accessing material, long-term storage, time efficiency, and ease of presence list.

Abstract

Structural ambiguity remains a persistent challenge in English comprehension, particularly when relative clauses (RCs) and prepositional phrases (PPs) admit multiple interpretations. While much research has examined native speakers or beginning L2 learners, little is known about how advanced learners apply formal syntactic knowledge to disambiguate such structures. This study addresses that gap by investigating how Indonesian EFL undergraduates resolve ambiguity using structural relation patterns—dominance, precedence, and c-command. A qualitative design was employed with 30 English Education majors who had completed a syntax course. Data were collected through tree-diagram tasks and a structured questionnaire, enabling structural and reflective insights. Findings revealed three main strategies: sorting by node, ignoring non-potential nodes, and using punctuation, with late closure as the most dominant approach. Structural analysis showed that while dominance and precedence guided parsing partially, c-command consistently supported accurate disambiguation when reinforced by semantic plausibility. Frequent reactivation also indicated that learners revised their interpretations when implausibility arose, demonstrating interactive rather than strictly structural parsing. The study contributes to syntactic theory by extending the role of c-command to advanced L2 contexts, parsing research by showing interactive strategy use, and pedagogy by advocating explicit instruction on structural relations combined with cognitive strategy training. These insights inform advanced grammar curricula and highlight the need for integrated approaches to ambiguity resolution in academic English.
