Abstract

This research conducted based on the phenomon on the languages and behaviours are showed by the students when they interact with their friends, teachers, and stafs at school. This research aims to find out the changes of students’ language and behavior  in relation with the intensity of intercultural communication using social media. This research had been done in one of Senior High Schools in Mataram especially to the third grade students of science and social department. In getting the data, this research applied observation, interview, and questionnaire. It found that the intensity of exchange culture information by using social media has influenced most teenager today. Firstly, the students tend to use their language by using a kind of “Alay language” when they interact with their friends or even with their teachers whether inside or outside of the classroom. Secondly, the intensity of exchange culture information by using social media could help students to finish their school tasks. They work cooperatively with their friends in small groups. They are able to find out the information they need to present cultural celebrations and how something happens in less than fifteen minutes. This intercultural communication could also help them to build up their awareness of cultural differences among them. However, this intensive exchange of cultural information could also lead students to prefer to communicate with their network friends to friends in their school and home environment. Moreover, the students are likely becoming less sensitive towards their friends’ problems. In addition, the intensive of exchange of culture information by using social media could lead them to the model of thinking which is likely to force their arrogances and egoism.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate the imperative sentences in Sumbawanese used by the participats in informal conversation based on the types, functions, and markers. This research was conducted in Empang Subdistric especially in Cempaka Putih Village with ten participants. In conducting this research, the researcher used qualitative and the data were taken through observation, video recorder, and note taking. This research found that  the types of imperative sentences in Sumbawanese are positive and negative imperative sentences. Positive imperative sentences divided into two such as positive imperative sentences with a noun as a direct address and positive imperative sentences without a noun as a direct address. While one is also divided into two, there are negative imperative sentences with a noun as a direct address and negative imperative sentence without a noun as a direct address. From all of the types of imperative sentences, the participants tend to use the positive imperative sentences with a noun as a direct address as their daily sentences in conversation. It also found that there are seven functions of imperative sentences in Sumbawanese such as imperative sentences as command, imperative sentences as request, imperative sentences as invitation, imperative sentences as suggestion, imperative sentences as advice, imperative sentences as prohibition, and imperative sentences as compulsion. However,  the participants tend to use the imperative sentences as command in their conversation.

The last, based on the seven markers all of imperative sentence, Sumbawa people all of them, but they dominantly used command markers of imperative sentences in their daily conversation.Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kalimat-kalimat perintah dalam bahasa Sumbawa yang digunakan masyarakat dalam percakapan informal berdasarkan jenis, fungsi, dan penanda. Sebagai sample, penelitian ini melibatkan   sepuluh partisipan penutur asli bahasa Sumbawa. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan cara observasi, video rekaman, dan catatan lapangan. Hasil penelitian ini bahwa bentuk kalimat imperatif dalam bahasa Sumbawa terdiri dari kalimat imperatif positif dan negatif. Kalimat imperatif positif dibagi menjadi dua yaitu kalimat imperatif menggunakan kata benda untuk panggilan langsung dan kalimat imperatif tidak menggunakan kata benda untuk panggilan secara langsung. Hal ini sama halnya dengan ungkapan kalimat imperatif negatif. Dari sekian bentuk kalimat imperatif, orang sumbawa cenderung menggunakan kalimat imperatif positif menggunakan kata benda dengan panggilan secara langsung ketika berkomunikasi sehari-hari. Ditemukan juga bahwa ada tujuh fungsi kalimat imperatif dalam bahasa Sumbawa yaitu kalimat imperatif untuk umum, meminta, mengundang, saran, nasehat, larangan, dan mewajibkan. Akan tetapi orang sumbawa cenderung menggunakan kalimat imperatif umum ketika berkomunikasi. Dari aspek penanda kalimat imperatif, orang Sumbawa  menggunakan semua penanda tersebut, namun penanda perintah dalam kalimat imperatif adalah yang paling digunakan oleh masyarakat dalam percakapan sehari-hari.

Abstract

Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pembinaan dan pelatihan teknik debat Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMAN I Moyo Utara Kabupaten Sumbawa. Tahapan-tahapan dalam kegiatan ini adalah (1) Planning, (2) Sosialisasi peraturan dan teknik National School Debating Championship (NSDC), (3) Pemberian materi debat bahasa Inggris yang dilakukan dengan mengenalkan tema atau topik gagasan debat yang akan diperlombakan di tingkat Propinsi Nusa Tenggara Barat dengan standar internasional, (4) Pendampingan dan pelatihan debat bahasa Inggris dengan memberikan materi terkait motion yang dilombakan, (5) Peserta pendampingan melakukan latihan pemahaman materi yang diberikan oleh pendamping, (6) Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan dengan membuat kelompok debat, kemudian melakukan debat intra kelompok, dan (7) Pelaporan kegiatan. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi selama kegiatan (1) Peserta didik sangat termotivasi dan percaya diri menggunakan Bahasa Inggris selama pendampingan dan pelatihan debat, dan (2) Selama berinteraksi atau komunikasi dengan Bahasa Inggris, peserta didik masih menemui hambatan terkait kekurangan vocabulary, pronunciation dan grammar used. Kegiatan ini dilakukan untuk membina dan melatih teknik debat Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SMAN I Moyo Utara Kabupaten Sumbawa, sehingga mereka memiliki keterampilan debat dengan menggunakan Bahasa Inggris. Luaran yang akan dihasilkan dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah siswa mampu melakukan debat Bahasa Inggris sesuai standar internasional.

Abstract

Indonesian Student Entrepreneurial Activities (KBMI) is one of the government programs in order to encourage the emergence of young entrepreneurs in universities. This grant is organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture (kemdikbud) through the Directorate General of Belmawa. Every student has the opportunity to participate in KBMI. However, not all students know the information about this grant. So we feel the need to introduce as well as provide training to students to prepare KBMI grant proposals. With this activity, it is hoped that students will be more motivated to become entrepreneurs and be able to make proposals as well as possible. This activity was carried out in February 2021 in the hall of the STKIP Pracendikia NW Sumbawa, attended by students and prospective supervisors. The activities run smoothly and according to plan. Participants were very enthusiastic and followed the activity until the end. Activities like this are expected to become routine activities to increase student motivation in entrepreneurship and participate in student grants.

Abstract

The purpose of this Community Service Activity is to examine the response of the community and government regarding the smelter program. These activities were held in the villages of Benete and Maluk, West Sumbawa Regency. The activity which was held in December 2021 involved 126 participants. The details of the participants involved are 6 local government officials, 15 youth delegates, 15 community leaders, 15 religious leaders, and 15 community members who have a direct impact on the Smelter project in Maluk village, and 15 youth delegates, 15 people community leaders, 15 religious leaders, and 15 community leaders who have a direct impact on the Smelter project in Benete village. The method of carrying out activities is the structured interview method. PkM is carried out in three stages, namely; 1) planning, 2) implementation of activities, and 3) reporting of activities. The results of the analysis show that; 1) The local government supports the construction of a smelter in Sumbawa Regency in order to increase the wheels of development and improve the community's economy, and 2) People in Maluk and Benete villages strongly agree with the construction of a smelter in West Sumbawa Regency.

Abstract

This research investigates the students and teachers’ perspectives on using Bima language in teaching English. The data collected through video recorder, reflection, and interview. The data analysed using qualitative method such as identifying, classifying, explaining, and concluding. This research shows that; firstly, based on the video recorder, students looked anthusiast in taking part to the English class activities. They were active and cohesive in translating every untterance that mentioned by the English teacher in mother tongue. Secondly, the reflection shows that the students’ vocabulary and speaking can be improved. It is different with the previous one when the treatment has not been applied. Lastly, the interview result indicates that the students and teachers’ responses tend to give positive response on the application of Bima language in teaching English. It can be seen from the students’ responses percentage; 85% students gave most positive responses, 6% students gave semi-positive responses, 6% students gave semi-negative responses, and 3% students gave negative responses. On the other hand, the English teachers’ responses also reflect on positive, because after they observed the learning activities, they aware that the Bima language has big potensial to be used in teaching English. Interestingly, they saw their students’ English ability can be  improved after they learn it by using mother tongue. Therefore, it can be concluded that using Bima language can give positive contribution in teaching English.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM Pendampingan Belajar Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SDN Empan diadakan sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris siswa di SDN Empan yang terletak di Desa Labuhan Badas, Kecamatan Labuhan Badas, Kabupaten Sumbawa. SDN ini terletak 13 KM dari pusat kota Kabupaten Sumbawa. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra adalah: Tidak ada pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di SD Empan, dan 2) Tidak ada tempat yang dapat memfasilitasi siswa di sekolah untuk kegiatan ekstrakurikuler bahasa Inggris. Oleh karena itu, solusi yang diberikan untuk mengatasi permasalahan diatas adalah; 1) Memberikan pengenalan dan pengajaran tentang kosa kata bahasa Inggris dalam bentuk bantuan belajar bagi siswa untuk meningkatkan pemahaman dan keterampilan siswa dalam bahasa Inggris, dan 2) Mendirikan Klub Ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa untuk berlatih dan memperdalam pemahaman serta keterampilan siswa mitra tentang bahasa Inggris. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan selama dua bulan dan meliputi tahapan; 1) Persiapan, 2) Pelaksanaan Kegiatan; pelaksanaan program ini melibatkan kerjasama dua dosen dari kampus yang berbeda, 2) mahasiswa, dan sekolah mitra (SD Negeri Empan), 3) Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pemberian salam ujian lisan dan evaluasi berkelanjutan, dan 4) Kelanjutan Program dengan pembentukan Ekstrakurikuler English Club. Luaran yang diperoleh dari pelaksanaan PKM Bantuan Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris siswa SD Negeri Empan terdiri dari dua luaran, yaitu luaran wajib dan luaran tambahan. Keluaran wajibnya adalah 1) publikasi di jurnal ilmiah terakreditasi, dan luaran tambahannya adalah 1) meningkatkan kemampuan kosa kata bahasa Inggris dasar siswa dan 2) membentuk Klub Ekstrakurikuler Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SD Negeri Empan.

Abstract

This program aims to provide experience, information and new knowledge related to the use of basic English during marketing results by the Gita Tambora Tourism Ambassador UMKM sector group, in Dusun Pamulung. The institutions participating in the community service activities are the Kencana Beach Cottages Travel Agency, the Postgraduate School of the Sumbawa University of Technology (UTS), the Sumbawa Islamic College (STAIS), and the UMKM Group Gita Tambora Tourism Ambassador with assistance for a certain period. The activity was carried out 5 February 2023, 24 February 2023 and 10 March 2023. There were five stages, namely; 1) survey activities; 2) interviewing; 3) setting up the sales area; 4) providing basic English communication; and 5) getting ready to serve guests. The results of these activities are: 1) travel agencies gain the trust of the tourism market; 2) Lecturers and students can implement their knowledge and experience; and 3) MSME groups can increase new knowledge regarding how to communicate using basic English with foreign guests. In addition, it will be increasing the economic value from sales suvenirs they sell.

Abstract

Kegiatan PKM Penyiapan Generasi Global melalui Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi siswa SDN Empan diadakan sebagai upaya untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan berbahasa Inggris siswa di SDN Empan yang terletak di Desa Labuhan Badas, Kecamatan Labuhan Badas, Kabupaten Sumbawa. SDN ini terletak 13 KM dari pusat kota Kabupaten Sumbawa. Kegiatan PKM ini merupakan kelanjutan dari program pendapingan belajar bahasa Inggris sebelumnya yang sudah dilaksanakan pada periode Maret s.d Mei 2023. Permasalahan yang dihadapi mitra adalah: 1) Area sekolah sering dikunjungi tamu asing, dan 2) Diperlukan kesenambungan pembelajaran bagi siswa-siswa yang sudah mengikuiti pendampingan sebelumnya. Oleh karena itu, solusi yang diberikan untuk mengatasi permasalahan di atas adalah; 1) Menyiapkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan bahasa Inggris yang memadai untuk bisa berinteraksi maksimal dengan para pengunjung asing tersebut, dan 2) Mendampingi dan melatih kecakapan berbahasa dan mempraktekannya, baik dalam kelas maupun berkunjung ke area wisata terdekat. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan selama tiga bulan, dimulai bulan Juni s.d Agustus 2023 dan meliputi tahapan; 1) Persiapan, 2) Pelaksanaan Kegiatan; pelaksanaan program ini melibatkan kerjasama dua dosen dari kampus yang berbeda, 2) mahasiswa, dan sekolah mitra (SD Negeri Empan), 3) Evaluasi dilakukan melalui praktek berbicara dan berinteraksi dengan teman di depan kelas. Luaran yang diperoleh dari pelaksanaan PKM Pentiapan Generasi Global melalui Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris siswa SD Negeri Empan terdiri dari dua luaran, yaitu luaran wajib dan luaran tambahan. Keluaran wajibnya adalah publikasi di jurnal ilmiah terakreditasi, dan luaran tambahannya adalah meningkatkan kemampuan berkomunikasi bahasa Inggris dasar siswa SD Negeri Empan.
