Abstract

Social Development Sustainability Amid the Global Economic Crisis is the ability of a country or society to maintain and continue efforts to improve social welfare, quality of life, and equitable access to basic services, despite facing significant global economic challenges. This concept includes efforts to maintain the stability of social programs, ensure protection for vulnerable groups, and develop adaptive strategies that enable sustainable social progress, even when economic resources are limited or unstable. Social development sustainability in this context also involves innovations in service delivery, strengthening community resilience, and integrating economic, social, and environmental aspects to create a more resilient system in the face of global economic shocks. The research method in this study uses literature. The results show that while the global economic crisis has worsened inequality and strained social protection systems, it has also encouraged innovation in social service provision and reinforced the importance of investing in sustainable social development.

Abstract

The effectiveness of social welfare programmes in a time of economic crisis refers to the ability and success of government policies and initiatives in providing assistance, support and protection to people, especially vulnerable groups, to mitigate the negative impacts of economic instability. This includes the extent to which programmes can meet their objectives of maintaining living standards, reducing poverty, and sustaining people's social welfare amid significant economic challenges. The research method used in this study is literature review. The results show that social welfare programmes have a significant role in protecting people from the worst impacts of the economic crisis. Programmes such as cash transfers, food subsidies, and health insurance have proven effective in maintaining basic consumption levels and preventing an increase in poverty. However, research also identified several challenges in implementation, including budget constraints, difficulties in targeting beneficiaries, and distribution problems in remote areas. Therefore, despite these challenges, social welfare programmes remain a crucial policy instrument in dealing with the economic crisis.

Abstract

The ‘Desa Maju, UMKM Berkembang’ programme is a community service initiative that aims to improve local economic growth through the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in villages. In the context of sustainable economic development, MSMEs play a vital role as drivers of the grassroots economy. However, MSMEs in rural areas often face various challenges, including limited access to capital, markets, technology, and modern management knowledge. Thus, the ‘Desa Maju, MSMEs Berkembang’ programme has demonstrated the effectiveness of a holistic approach in the development of rural MSMEs. The programme has not only succeeded in improving the economic capacity of individuals and groups, but has also contributed to strengthening the overall economic structure of the village.
