The focus is on how students can be critically aware of media, especially digital media, for their learning. Thus, the use of media in education impacts educational creativity development, such as digital technology applications. In terms of learning, digital literacy is the competency in understanding and using digital technologies effectively for learning. Research has already explored the need for digital literacy in the classroom. This recent paper tries to figure out how digital literacy is implemented in the teaching of ESP students. Furthermore, the method used to describe the idea of this paper is a conceptual paper in which the writer tries to figure out how digital learning is implemented for learning. The writer used literature review from some journal articles and books written by the experts to gather the data. In conclusion, applying digital literacy must be well prepared on the way how it is used. It must relate to their competence, learning objectives, and language skills being taught. Indeed, once the students are familiar with the technology being used, they significantly improve their skills.

Abstract

Trenggalek has more than 30 tourist villages that have been intensively built since 2020, including Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah. This village was chosen as one of the 300 best tourism villages in Anugerah Desa Wisata (ADWI) 2023. This year, one of the tourist villages proposed by the Trenggalek government was Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah. This tourist village has much potential for development, including cultural tourism. Cultural tourism in this tourist village can be developed into storynomics tourism. To develop storynomics tourism in Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah, the community service team from UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur then initiated and held a program called “Storytelling for Tour Guide” in Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah, Trenggalek. The program was successfully held on the 25th – 26th of June 2023 at Pendopo Desa Wisata Jajar Gumregah, attended by around 35 participants. They came from diverse backgrounds, from senior high school to undergraduate level. The success was proven by the participation and involvement of the participants in the discussion sessions and the publications made. In the future, the improvement of the storytelling skills of tour guides can boost the tourism sector in the area.

Abstract

In the fast-evolving landscape of education, every student needs an ideal teacher to achieve better learning outcomes. However, the characteristics of an ideal English teacher may vary depending on the context and generation of students. As society transitions into the Society 5.0 era, with its rapid technological advancements, the expectations for English teachers are also changing. Teachers must understand the challenges they face and adapt to the evolving needs of millennial students. This study aims to investigate millennial students’ and English teachers’ perceptions of the challenges and characteristics of effective English teachers in the Society 5.0 era. The research adopts a survey approach, collecting data through questionnaires. The participants were English department students and their teachers from several Islamic universities in East Java. The results showed that both millennial students and teachers share similar perceptions on the challenges and characteristics of an effective English teacher in certain aspects, although there were differences in their perceptions regarding other aspects. The study highlights the alignment and differences in perceptions between millennial students and teachers, emphasizing the evolving characteristics and challenges that English teachers face in the Society 5.0 context. These insights can inform future teacher preparation and professional development to meet the dynamic needs of students in a technology-driven society.
