Abstract

In the medical field, communication between nurses and patients is essential since it can influence patients' comprehension of medical situations and adherence to therapy. With an emphasis on the many kinds of illocutionary speech acts and their pragmatic meanings, this study attempts to investigate speech acts utilized in nurse-patient communication. This study employs a qualitative research method and descriptive approach. The study, which was carried out at Daya Hospital in Makassar, revealed the many speech acts—representative, directive, expressive, declarative, and commissive—that nurses and patients employ when communicating. Nurses commonly use directive speech actions when communicating with patients in order to provide care and take action. Patients commonly use expressive speech acts to express all of their feelings, illnesses, and concerns. Appropriate and effective speaking actions can benefit patients and nurses, speed up the healing process, and create a pleasant environment.

The media should be innovative and interactive especially in teaching English vocabulary. The objective of the study was to find out the types and challenges of various interactive media in teaching English vocabulary. The subject of the research was the first semester students of English Education at STAIN Majene. The instruments were classroom observation and interview. This research used qualitative research. The data were collected by using lecturer’s interview, observation sheet for students and lecturer. The data were analyzed in four stages namely data collection, data display, data condensation and conclusion drawing. The result of the research showed that the lecturer used 4 types of Interactive media in form of interactive quiz, video, books, and flash card The implementation of various media was interesting and attracts the students’ attention. The students were active to take a part in learning because the medias were interactive. The students were more active than the use of textbook. Besides, there were some challenges in implementing the media. They are limitations of technological devices, time constraints in preparation, resistance of users, distraction of students’ focus, and irrelevant of Instructional materials and media.

Abstract

Background. Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology have opened up new opportunities in the field of education, especially in learning foreign languages at the high school level. However, the integration of AI-based chatbots as interactive companions in the context of formal learning is still rarely explored, especially in Indonesia. The main problems faced in learning foreign languages are limited interaction time and low confidence of students in using the target language. Purpose. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the use of AI chatbots as an interactive learning partner in improving the outcomes and quality of foreign language learning of high school students. The main focus is directed at improving academic performance, motivation, and student engagement through adaptive and personalized digital interactions. Method. The research method used was a quasi-experimental design with two groups, namely the experimental group that used chatbots and the control group that learned by conventional methods. The research instruments included pretest and posttest tests, engagement questionnaires, and observation of student learning behavior. The sample consisted of 60 grade XI students at one of the State High Schools. Results. The results showed a significant increase in the posttest scores of the experimental group compared to the control group. In addition, chatbots also play a role in building confidence and increasing students' active participation in foreign language practices independently. Conclusion. The conclusion of this study states that AI chatbots are effective as an interactive companion that is able to enrich the experience of learning a foreign language. The uniqueness of this research lies in the integration of chatbots in the formal curriculum of high schools, as well as its contribution in answering the needs of personalized learning through AI-based technology.
