Abstract

Background: COVID-19 pandemic is a global problem. One of the risk factors for COVID-19 is close contact, which has a greater risk of being confirmed because virus transmission generally occurs directly through droplets. Based on regional risk zoning mapping, Purwakarta District is categorized as a moderate risk zone, and most of the confirmed cases are caused by a history of close contact. Still, people with a history of close contact only sometimes become established patients. This study aimed to determine the relationship between close contact status and the incidence of COVID-19 in the Purwakarta district year 2020. Method: This study used observational analysis and a cross-sectional study design. The research data is secondary data from the Purwakarta Regency Health Office. Purposive sampling was used to select 2,650 people for the study. The data analysis method used is chi-square. Results: According to the respondents' characteristics, most are in their early adulthood (26.8 %) and male (52.3 %). According to bivariate analysis, there is a p-value = 0.002 relationship between close contact status and the incidence of COVID-19. People with close contact status are 1.040 times more likely than people who do not have close contact status to get COVID-19 (95 % CI = 1.013-1.069). Conclusion: Close contact status is a risk factor for COVID-19 transmission in Purwakarta Regency during 2020.

Abstract

Background: Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease transmitted mainly by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. A rapid increase in cases may indicate a potential outbreak and requires timely surveillance. This study aimed to describe dengue cases by person, place, and time in the Mlati 2 Public Health Center area from 2021 to 2024 and identify potential outbreak patterns. Method: This quantitative descriptive study used secondary data from epidemiological investigation records at Mlati 2 PHC. “Dengue cases” included all cases classified as DF, DHF, DSS, and DD. A total of 82 cases recorded from 2021 to 2024 were included. Data were analyzed descriptively and presented by person, place, time, laboratory diagnosis, and House Larvae-Free Index. Results: Most cases occurred among adults aged 19–59 years, with more females than males. Sumberadi Village recorded the highest number of cases, followed by Tlogoadi and Tirtoadi. DHF was the most frequent classification, while cases in 2024 showed more varied diagnoses, including DF, DHF, DD, and DSS. The three-year minimum–maximum pattern showed that cases in February, March, April, May, and August 2024 exceeded the historical maximum from 2021 to 2023, indicating potential outbreak signals. The House Larvae-Free Index remained below the national standard of 95% during the study period. Conclusion: Dengue cases occurred annually in the Mlati 2 Public Health Center area, with a marked increase in 2024. Cases were mainly found among productive-age adults and concentrated in Sumberadi Village. The potential outbreak signals and low House Larvae-Free Index highlight the need to strengthen surveillance, timely reporting, epidemiological investigation, and community-based vector control.

Abstract

Introduction: Tuberculosis is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity. When an infected individual coughs or sneezes without using a mask or personal protective equipment, transmission occurs, resulting in a rise in TB cases. This is significant because without sufficient measures by the diseased individual, the chance of disease transmission increases. This study aims to evaluate the link between knowledge, attitudes, and behaviour in avoiding TB transmission in the Bantul Health Service Work Area. Methods: This is an analytical observational study using a cross-sectional research methodology. This research included 55 TB patients still being treated at the Health Center of the Bantul Health Service Work Area. This study used a comprehensive sample approach. Data was obtained via a questionnaire, and the results were analyzed using chi-square, logistic regression, and Rasch models. Results: Knowledge (sig: 0.003; OR: 10.334) and attitudes (sig: 0.029; OR: 4.938) are associated with TB prevention behaviour in the Bantul Health Service Work Area. The most manageable behaviour to avoid transmission to those around them is taking medicine regularly and eating healthy food (logit: -2.10), while the most challenging activity is opening the home window (logit: 1.96). Conclusion: Knowledge and attitude are risk factors for preventing TB transmission, thorough education about tuberculosis prevention is required through multiple health promotion media.

Abstract

Background: Anemia is a global health issue, particularly among pregnant women in developing countries, with an estimated 35% of pregnant women worldwide expected to be anemic by 2023. This condition increases the risk of complications for both mother and fetus, such as fatigue, preterm birth, and low birth weight. It is influenced by maternal factors, including age, chronic energy deficiency (CED), and educational level. Purpose: This study aims to identify the relationship among maternal age, chronic energy deficiency, education level, and the occurrence of anemia in pregnant women. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the working area of the Pakuncen Community Health Center and involved 192 pregnant women selected using purposive random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire to determine the age, educational level, CED, and anemia status. Anemia status was determined by measuring hemoglobin levels using HemoCue, while CED status was assessed by upper-arm circumference (UAC). Data analysis used chi-square tests and logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of anemia was 40.60%. Maternal age, education level, and CED status were significantly associated with anemia incidence (p<0.05). Logistic regression showed that mothers with low education (AOR = 3.41; 95% CI: 1.77-6.53), experiencing CED (AOR = 2.17; 95% CI: 1.12-4.20), and aged <20 or >35 years (AOR = 2.35; 95% CI: 1.18-4.68) had a higher likelihood of anemia. Conclusion: Maternal age, nutritional status, and education level significantly affect anemia risk. Improving nutrition education and supporting empowerment can help reduce anemia and improve the health of mothers and infants.
