Abstract

This research identifies and measures hotel consumers' trust regarding the application of CHSE (clean, healthy, safety, and environmental sustainability) in three, four, and five-star hotels in Palembang during the COVID-19 pandemic. CHSE certification is a program from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia to increase consumer confidence in reusing hotel services. The study used direct observation techniques in restaurants and distributed questionnaires to respondents. This descriptive-analytic survey uses a questionnaire as a variable measurement scale. The research population is star hotel guests who have received CHSE certification, with a sample of 602 respondents. The study results show that respondents dominated by women, millennials, and generation Z, the choice of visiting 3-star and 4-star hotels, the purpose of visits to carry out tasks and attend events, while the phenomenon of staycation destinations began to grow during the pandemic by 17 percent. Concerning the CHSE, there was a 10.9 percent growth in confidence in implementing the CHSE with the opportunity for Covid-19 transmission. The seriousness of the implementation of CHSE has yet to meet consumers' perspectives, and only three of the thirteen indicators have met consumer expectations with an average value of 83 percent. In addition, there is a shift in consumer considerations in choosing hotels, from consumers sensitive to price and cleanliness factors. In contrast, the CHSE implementation factor has become a consideration of 51 percent of respondents.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the role of public toilets as a destination image in the tourist attraction of Bara Beach in Bulukumba Regency. This study applies a qualitative method on the grounds that this qualitative research is appropriate to be used in determining real conditions in the field by utilizing descriptive methods. In the new normal era like today, every tourist attraction must be able to ensure that health protocols are still strictly and consistently implemented. One of them is the implementation of sanitation in public toilets in tourist attractions, including at Bara Beach, because this is considered to be able to make tourists who use the public toilet feel safe and comfortable. Bara Beach is one of the mainstay marine tourism attractions of South Sulawesi province, especially Bulukumba Regency. Throughout the year this beach is visited by many tourists, this is due to the extraordinary potential it has in the form of a very fine stretch of white sand and a very beautiful beach area, including the beauty of the sunset when the day is approaching nightfall. For this reason, the availability of decent and standard public toilets is very necessary, the completeness of public toilet facilities in Bara Beach must of course be in accordance with the standards. And in terms of cleanliness, it is also very necessary to maintain it well, considering that the public toilet will be used by visitors or tourists, both domestic and foreign tourists. The availability of public toilets in Bara beach destinations will certainly not necessarily be a service solution for one of the basic needs of tourists, but what is no less important in this case is how to manage it. The management of public toilets must be done properly so that the needs of tourists for clean, comfortable and safe public toilets are met, but in addition to maintaining the cleanliness of public toilets can be maintained properly, the participation of users in this case tourists is also very much needed. For this reason, through this study, the researcher intends to further study "Public toilets as an image of destinations (study on Bara beach in Bulukumba Regency)".

Abstract

The hospitality industry demands professional, skilled, and adaptive human resources to meet guest needs. Vocational education in the hospitality sector needs to emphasize industry-based practical learning to prepare students to face the world of work. One method that can be used is housekeeping drilling skills, a repetition-based training that emphasizes consistency, speed, and precision in housekeeping skills. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the housekeeping drilling method in increasing the adaptability of the Room and Hospitality Management Division Study Program students who study Housekeeping courses at the Makassar Tourism Polytechnic. The research uses a qualitative approach with the research location at the Makassar Tourism Polytechnic, one of the vocational universities under the Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia. Over six months, data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation of students who participated in housekeeping practices (April-September 2025). The analysis was conducted descriptively to understand students' experiences, perceptions, and challenges in drilling housekeeping skills. The study results show that the housekeeping drilling method improves technical skills, discipline, and students' adaptability to the dynamic hospitality work environment. Repetitive exercises strengthen the motor aspect and cognitive understanding related to industry operational standards. This study contributes to the development of a vocational curriculum. It enhances the synergy between educational institutions and the hospitality industry in producing more ready-to-use, competent, and adaptive graduates.

Abstract

Although the marine environment is not a human habitat, it is utilised for two purposes: economically, to fulfil food needs based on marine biota, and for tourism, where recreational activities are carried out. This means that the issue of marine environmental cleanliness is highly significant and crucial. With regard to recreational needs, we believe that front office staff and housekeepers play a major role in promoting marine environmental cleanliness, especially in meeting recreational needs, where the presence of rubbish or dirt is difficult to avoid, while cleanliness is a major factor in meeting recreational needs. Through an action research approach, we constructed a learning model that we hope can be incorporated into the hospitality education curriculum in order to promote marine environmental cleanliness. The participation of lecturers and students in the field of hospitality in conducting action research, the construction of knowledge about learning models where enculturation is related to the culture of cleanliness, and support for understanding the function of the marine environment and the impact of its damage, especially in Indonesia, are the main topics with the aim of shaping the role of front officers and housekeepers in promoting marine environmental cleanliness. The results of this study show that the formation of a culture of cleanliness occurs through an understanding of the concepts of dirt and cleanliness based on general views or understanding, which are therefore not based on personal judgement or understanding, and can thus be practised and accepted in a general context. This understanding is formed through enculturation that takes place in formal vocational education, where understanding of the function of and impact of damage to the marine environment is taught as a form of cognitive support, with the aim of realising a culture of cleanliness. The understanding that sustainability as a concept can only be realised through the active role of humans as actors in life leads us to view the significance of this study in the formation of a formal vocational education curriculum in the hospitality field. Therefore, we hope that the results of this study can be developed for the purpose of forming an action-based curriculum for front officers and housekeepers as agents in promoting marine environmental cleanliness.
