Abstract

Sebagian besar mahasiswa memiliki riwayat vaksin hepatitis B yaitu sebanyak 27 (64,3%) mahasiswa. Hasil skrining merupakan pemeriksaan awal, sehingga masih diperlukan pemeriksaan tambahan untuk dapat memberikan kepastian terhadap status penyakit Hepatitis B. Vaksin dianjurkan untuk diberikan kepada seluruh mahasiswa kesehatan yang berisiko tinggi terhadap penularan virus hepatitis B.Kata Kunci: Skrining; Hepatitis B; Seleksi Donor; Donor Darah SukarelaAbstractHepatitis B is a contagious disease posing a significant health issue in the community. Hepatitis B can be transmitted through the use of syringes and through blood transfusions. Screening for hepatitis B is necessary for prospective voluntary blood donation. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of hepatitis B among students who fulfilled the criteria as potential voluntary blood donation. This study used an observation with a cross-sectional approach. Around 50 students were selected as the respondents using a stratified random sampling technique. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of the Department of Health Analysts at Semarang Polytechnic of Health in June 2023. Weight measurement, blood pressure measurement, and hemoglobin examination were performed on the respondents and they were eligible blood donation if all examination results were normal and met the criteria. Data were processed and analyzed descriptively to see the frequency distribution. Most of the students met the requirements as potential voluntary blood donation specifically 42 students (84%). All students had non-reactive hepatitis B results, totaling 42 students (100.0%). Most students had a history of hepatitis B vaccination, with 27 students (64.3%) having received the vaccine. The screening result represents an initial examination, therefore additional tests are still needed to provide certainty about the status of Hepatitis B. Vaccination is recommended to be administered to all students majoring in medicine who are at high risk of hepatitis B virus transmission. Keywords: Screening; Hepatitis B; Donor Selection; Voluntary Blood Donation

Abstract

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major public health problem due to its increasing prevalence, late diagnosis, and limited awareness, particularly in rural communities. Early detection through simple and accessible screening methods is essential to prevent disease progression. This community service program aimed to enhance kidney health awareness and identify early risk factors for renal disorders through the integration of health education and dipstick urinalysis screening among residents of Pundan Village, Banyubiru District, Semarang Regency, Indonesia. The program was implemented using a participatory approach involving 45 adult community members. Activities included interactive health education sessions, urine dipstick screening, basic health measurements, and individualized counseling. The results showed that most participants initially had low knowledge of kidney health, while screening identified several risk indicators related to kidney dysfunction, including metabolic risk factors and abnormal urinalysis findings. The combination of education and hands-on screening improved participants’ understanding of kidney health and encouraged preventive behaviors. This program demonstrates that integrating health education with dipstick urinalysis is a feasible, low-cost, and effective community-based approach for early detection and prevention of kidney disorders. The model can be replicated in other rural settings to support promotive and preventive health efforts and reduce the burden of chronic kidney disease.

Abstract

Blood donation is an activity to donate blood for transfusion purposes. The number of voluntary blood donors in Indonesia is around 20% of the total production of blood bags per year, the rest is met from replacement donors. People are generally reluctant to donate blood because of fear of pain when blood is drawn using a syringe, fear of running out of blood, resulting in anemia, contracting the disease through blood donors, feeling unwell to donate blood and feeling that it is enough to only donate blood once. This is a factor that causes the limited number of donors due to limited knowledge. Research Objectives: To see an overview of the level of knowledge about blood donors in the community of donors at Pekalongan City. Methods: The type of research used is descriptive quantitative with a cross sectional approach with a questionnaire to determine the level of knowledge of the donor community. Results: Most of the blood donors at the Pekalongan City are Male 73 respondents (73%), the highest percentage aged 17-30 years as many as 54 respondents (54%), high school education, namely as many as 49 respondents (49%). Most of the donor knowledge level is said to be good, namely 88 respondents (88%). Conclusion: Most of the donor community at the Pekalongan City have a good level of knowledge about blood donation.

Abstract

Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is a widespread zoonotic pathogen worldwide. This parasite grows inside the body of a cat as definitive host. Cats play an important role in the epidemiology of T. gondii because they are the only animal capable to shed oocysts which can withstand outside environment. Nowadays, transmission of T. gondii infection from cat to human increases in particular areas. This study aims to identify the incidence of toxoplasmosis in pregnant women Raise Cats and Not Raise Cats in Tlogosari Wetan Health Center Semarang City. This study was an descriptive observational research with case control design in two populations. Subjects are chosen based on certain criteria, This study was done to 25 respondents as pregnant women raise cats and 25 respondents who weren’t. The results obtained from serological analysis on 50 blood serum samples consisting of 25 blood serum samples of pregnant women raise cats with positive IgG antibody as many as 6 serum samples (24%) and 25 blood serum samples of pregnant women who are not raise cats obtained positive IgG antibody in 2 samples serum (8%). The total percentage of toxoplasmosis was 16% from 50 serum samples. It is necessary to carry out a large-scale serological survey to determine the prevalence of toxoplasmosis in pregnant women in Semarang City and necessary monitoring and treatment of pregnant women infected with Toxoplasma gondii.

Abstract

Helminthiasis is a parasitic infection in the form of worm larvae or eggs that develop in the human body. Diagnosing helminthiasis with fecal examination uses 2% eosin dye to clarify and emphasize the shape of worm eggs. Eosin 2% is a class-3 IARC carcinogenic reagent, so a natural reagent that does not damage the environment is needed. Reagents from natural materials that can be utilized are teak leaves containing anthocyanin compounds that can clarify and emphasize the shape of worm eggs.  The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of sth (soil transmitted helminth) worm eggs using natural dye teak leaf juice (tectona grandis) with a concentration of 40%, 60%, 80%, 100% as an alternative dye sedimentation method. The design of this study is quantitative with experimental design with posttest with control group design with Kruskal-Walis test. The results of this study obtained the concentration with the highest average value, namely 40% concentration of 8.7. The higher the concentration, the less clear the morphology of the egg because of the influence of dirt / residue from the juice. The results of the Kruskal-Walis test sig value 0.054, it can be concluded that there is no difference between teak leaf juice with a concentration of 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% with 2% eosin dye as a control. Based on the mean rank value of the Kruskal-Walis test, it can be seen that the best teak leaf juice concentration is 40% concentration with a value of 34.50. This research can be used as a reference for the utilization of teak leaves as a natural dye to replace 2% eosin for STH worm eggs.

Abstract

Background: Coronary heart disease involves chronic lipid burden and acute inflammation; troponin I is central to diagnosing myocardial injury. Objective: This study evaluated whether the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol differed by admission troponin I status and characterized each marker's discrimination for this threshold. Methods: This cross-sectional study used de-identified data from 38 coronary heart disease patients at a tertiary hospital in Central Java, Indonesia (January-December 2025). The first admission troponin I value was classified as below (<50 ng/L) or at/above (≥50 ng/L) the hospital's clinical decision threshold for a conventional troponin I assay. NLR and LDL were compared between groups, with separate ROC analyses. Results: Mean NLR was higher in the at/above-threshold group than the below-threshold group (4.21 ± 1.10 vs 2.28 ± 0.67; p < 0.001), whereas mean LDL did not differ significantly (103.47 ± 32.69 vs 106.32 ± 32.79 mg/dL; p = 0.791). NLR showed within-sample discrimination for at/above-threshold troponin I (AUC 0.798, 95% CI 0.640-0.955; p = 0.002); an exploratory, data-derived threshold of ≥2.92 yielded 84.2% sensitivity and 89.5% specificity. LDL showed no discrimination beyond chance (AUC 0.478, 95% CI 0.290-0.665; p = 0.815). Conclusion: NLR was higher at/above the local decision threshold and showed fair within-sample discrimination, whereas LDL did not. Because ROC curves were not formally compared and the NLR threshold was derived in the same cohort, these findings are exploratory. NLR warrants validation as a potential adjunctive inflammatory marker but should not replace or delay guideline-recommended troponin testing.
