Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

In a developing country like Indonesia, the impact of climate change on food production is a challenge that must be overcome. Climate change can affect various things in agriculture, especially on the number of trees produced. The problem of this change is very crucial where changes in the number of trees affect the income of mango farmers. The purpose of this study is to describe the characteristics of farmers and mango farming, analyze the impact of climate change on the number of mango trees, and identify mango farming activities that are affected by climate change and how farmers deal with them. The research sample was 60 respondents from mango farmers in 4 villages in Panyingkiran District, Majalengka Regency, West Java Province. The data analysis method used is descriptive statistics and the Chi-Square test. Farming characteristics of mango farmers are based on the number of mango trees owned, the median value is 200 trees, with on-farm income ranging from 5 – 100 million rupiah per season, and has experience in mango farming for 5 – 50 years. The results showed that there was a relationship between climate change and the number of mango trees. Meanwhile, farming activities affected by climate change include cultivation system activities, maintenance activities, as well as marketing and cultivation activities. Meanwhile, the way farmers overcome these obstacles includes borrowing additional capital, improving sanitation, using specific pesticides and using hormones.

Abstract

1000 Kebun Community is an organic community based in Bandung that aims to live a healthy life and care for the environment. The identity that is built on community members may not always be the main thing because many considerations are made by consumers when going through the purchasing decision process. This study aims to identify which community members consume organic rice and describe the consumer decision process in the organic community in purchasing organic rice in the city of Bandung. The method in this study uses qualitative analysis. The results showed that organic rice consumers were dominated by women aged 17-25 years, had a master's degree, worked as students, had one family member, and were in the income group of more than IDR 6,000,000 per month. The purchase decision process is carried out through five stages, namely, (1) recognition of needs based on self-actualization motivation and a sense of security, and (2) information search, carried out by active participants. (3) Evaluation of alternatives, namely considering purchases based on price and organic certification. (4) Participants' purchasing decisions tend to be influenced by the people around them and purchases are made through supermarkets or local organic farmers. (5) Post-purchase evaluation is dominated by satisfaction and driven on health and responsibility grounds to support local organic farmers.

Abstract

ABSTRACTPotato imports for industrial raw materials tend to increase, this is due to the lack of domestic potato production (industrial raw materials) is relatively small, the lack of industrial potato production can be caused by the lack of supply of seed potatoes (industrial raw materials) from local breeders. The lack of industrial seed potato supply has led to the emergence of new varieties of seed potato (for industry).  New seed potato varieties are generally untested by consumers. This study was conducted to compare new potato varieties”X” and Atlantis varieties and analyze the level of importance and performance of new potato seed varieties by consumers. The research was conducted using a quantitative design. The sample was taken using snow ball sampling, the research was conducted in Bandung district, West Bandung district and Garut district in February 2023.  Data were analyzed by descriptive analysis and Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA). Results show: There are eight attributes of new potato seed varieties, namely the number of sprouting eyes, resistance to pests and diseases, harvest age, tuber size, tuber shape, color and texture of tuber flesh, storability and productivity levels. The advantages of new potato seed varieties “X” over Atlantis potato seed varieties (the dominant variety planted by farmers) are that they have higher productivity potential and the harvesting age can be shorter.  Another advantage of the new potato seed varieties is that they have high productivity potential and good taste so that they can be processed into various kinds of processed products such as French fries and chips. Attributes that are important to farmers (seed consumers) and perform well in new potato seed varieties “X” are tuber size and harvesting age.  Attributes that need to be improved from the new seed potato varieties are pest-disease resistance and maintaining productivity.
