Abstract

As a system, agriculture is a growth engine related to each other: on-farm, off-farm and supporting sub systems. Capital and innovation are main driver of the integrated agriculture (agribusiness system). Hitherto, innovations in agribusiness system (especially on-farm) are still based on farmers’ conventional experiences, which become learning materials that are accumulated into farmers’ knowledge. However, farmer experiences need a long time period and spends a great expense (learning cost), which results in uncompetitive agricultural products related to cost and quality. Agricultural research institutions are still not be able to produce significant innovations for farmers. By the presence of research institution, learning cost and time period can be more efficient, not burden farmers which will reduce farmers income. Conception-adoption model of ST (science and technology) in agribusiness system is the main structure in frugal innovation system that one of its objectives is to produce competitive and qualified agricultural products. Research institution in the agricultural frugal innovation plays a strategic role as agricultural ST conception-adoption accelerator which is efficient and innovative. As a result, farmers can produce high quality products in low cost and high productivity and affect to the farmers income improvement. In practice, these efforts can be delivered by multiply interaction mechanism between farmers and researchers of research institutions in the development of ST agricultural innovation. The next step can be improved as an action research, which means that any research produced must be applied and each activity applied should be a research based.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), international prices, and import tariffs on the import volume of oranges in Indonesia. The increasing volume of orange imports in recent years indicates that external factors play a role in determining import levels. The variables examined in this study include CPI as an indicator of domestic purchasing power, international orange prices as a reflection of global market dynamics, and import tariffs as a government policy affecting international trade. The data used in this study is annual data from 2010 to 2023. The analysis method employed is multiple linear regression to observe the effects of each independent variable on the volume of orange imports. The results show that CPI has a positive and significant impact on the volume of orange imports, indicating that higher CPI levels lead to an increase in imports. International prices have a significant negative effect, implying that an increase in global orange prices reduces the import volume of oranges in Indonesia. Import tariffs also have a negative and significant impact on orange import volumes, meaning that higher import tariffs decrease the number of oranges imported. The multiple linear regression model has a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.85, indicating that 85% of the variation in the orange import volume can be explained by these three independent variables. These findings highlight the importance of controlling import tariffs and monitoring international prices to effectively manage the volume of orange imports in Indonesia.

Abstract

Orchid farming has the potential to be developed, because orchids have attractive shapes, colors, and aromas. Despite having great potential, orchid farmers face various obstacles such as productivity fluctuations, land conversion, and market problems that threaten the sustainability of their farming businesses. This study aims to identify factors that influence farmers' decisions in Pamulang District, South Tangerang City, in cultivating orchids. The factors studied include internal factors such as age, education, and experience, as well as external factors such as income, land area, capital, ease of cultivation, market opportunities, farming risks, and the role of the government. The method used is quantitative research with the Rasch Model, where the research sample consisted of 32 orchid farmers. The results of the study showed that ease of obtaining production facilities, availability of land suitable for orchids, and stable market demand are the main factors that encourage farmers to continue their farming businesses. However, the problem of unstable income and difficulty in obtaining capital from external parties, including the government, are the main obstacles. Farmers also consider formal education to have no significant effect on orchid cultivation, which is more influenced by practical experience and non-formal extension. Based on these results, it is recommended that the government provide capital assistance and production facilities with simpler and faster procedures. In addition, improving the quality of extension and training for farmers is also important to increase productivity, especially in the midst of limited land availability.
