Abstract

Nematode worm Anisakis sp is the causative agent of anisakiasis, a zoonosis which continues to be a health problem in humans, globally. Its clinical spectum varies from mild to very severe and always connected with sea fishes, one important source of nutrition for the community that cannot be ignored. In addition, consumer’s behavior and lifestyle in processing and consuming sea fishes also have has the potency as the predisposing factor for its transmission and clinical manifestations. This review article aimed to describes recent global data on anisakiasis and its occurrence in marine fishes of Indonesian waters and the risk of transmission in the community.

Abstract

Kata kunci: hipersensitivitas, ikan laut, larva, cacing, Anisakiasis, Anisakidae Abstract The increase of fish consumption, especially that originated from the deep sea, gives negative impact on health. Fish parasite like Anisakis sp can caused several health derangement such as allergy, appendicitis and even intestinal obstruction. The pathology and clinical signs are not always pathognomonic. Therefore, it is often difficult to diagnose correctly entailing in the delay of proper treatment. It is important to pay attention and better understanding about anisakiasis and the pathogenesis mechanism. Hence, it would increase awareness of the infection. Abstract

Kata Kunci : D. Immitis, zoonosis, dirofilariasis, faktor virulensi Abstract Dirofilaria immitis is a filarial nematode of dogs, cats, and many kind of animals with its predilection site heart and lung vessels. In human, this worm can cause zoonotic infection that can be fatal named dirofilariasis. Infection occur though the bit of zooantrophohilic mosquito that contain infective microfilaria. Theoretically, D. Immitis will not be able develop and become adult worm outside its definite host, but several cases of heart and pulmonal vessels obstruction caused by adult stage have been reported. The ability to survive and destroy the inner organ of the non-natural hosts showed that there are several virulence factor that made the host immune system failed. This paper aimed to discuss about virulence factor of D.immitis. Keywords : D. Immitis, zoonosis, dirofilariasis, viruence factors.

Abstract

Kata kunci: Pepaya bangkok, Antijamur, Bahan alam Abstract Candida sp. and Cryptococcus sp. are opportunistic fungi that can be fatal disease in humans if not treated properly. However, resistance of antifungal drugs have been emerged, therefore limit their benefit for therapy. Many natural products in Indonesia have potential to be established for new antifungal drugs that have high effectiveness, minimal side effects, and inexpensive. Papaya bangkok seed has not been explored for its antifungal activity. This seed become more organic waste. The aim of this study was to test antifungal activity of various papaya bangkok seed extract concentrations. We measured the inhibiton zone of papaya extract to Candida albicans and Cryptococcus neoformans. Result showed no inhibition zone for each seed extract concentrations. Papaya bangkok seed extract has not antifungal activity. Keywords: Papaya bangkok, antifungal, natural product

Abstract

Background: Blastocystis hominis is an intestinal protozoan that can infect humans and animals. The distribution coverage is very wide and is transmitted through the fecal-oral route. The incidence of blastocystosis due to Blastocystis hominis is higher in developing countries because it is associated with poor hygiene practice, inadequate sanitation, close contact with pets domesticated animals and or contaminated food. Blastocystis hominis infection can cause clinical manifestations, from asymptomatic to chronic diarrhea, depending on the Blastocystis subtype and the patient's immune system. brief background of the topic and significance of the study. Objective: The aim of this study was to detect and determine the incidence of Blastocystis hominis infection in the feces of children at the Pekanbaru Orphanage using the culture method. Methods: The sample is the feces of children from nine orphanages in Pekanbaru. Detection of Blastocystis by the modified Jone's Medium culture method but using sheep's serumResults: A total of 95 children's stool samples were examined from 9 orphanages in Pekanbaru, it was found that 63 children (66.3%) were positive for Blastocystis hominis using the culture method, positive Blastocystis hominis was found more in boys (58.7%%) than girls, and based on age group, 6-12 years were found to be the age group with the most infection (84.1%). Generally, the source of drinking water in orphanages is refilled drinking water and all orphanages have cats as pets, and a few have chickens, birds, and goats as petsConclusion: High incidence of Blastocystis hominis can be detected in the feces of Pekanbaru orphanage children using the culture method.
