Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of mixed-method Small-Sided Games (SSG) training on the improvement of alactic anaerobic capacity among adolescent football players. Utilising a pre-test and post-test experimental design, thirty-eight participants aged 12 to 18 years from the Persib Academy underwent a six-week mixed SSG training protocol, three times per week. The intervention systematically varied intensity, duration, and game scenarios to maximise physiological adaptation. Alactic anaerobic capacity was assessed using the Running-based Anaerobic Sprint Test (RAST). Descriptive and inferential analyses revealed statistically significant increases in maximal power, mean power, and fatigue index after the intervention (p < 0.001), with very large effect sizes. These findings highlight the effectiveness of structured mixed SSG training for improving anaerobic performance in youth footballers. The study recommends incorporating mixed SSG approaches in regular training regimens to optimise physical development and support evidence-based coaching practices. These results demonstrate the substantial benefits of mixed-method SSG training for enhancing anaerobic capacity. Nevertheless, future studies are recommended to incorporate a control group and examine long-term effects across diverse youth populations.

Abstract

This study focuses on analyzing the relationship between the release angle and the success rate of shooting in the free throw technique in basketball. The study was conducted on members of the Mitra Satu Basketball club using a quantitative descriptive approach. A total of 10 players performed 10 free throw attempts, resulting in a total of 100 shooting data that were analyzed using Kinovea software to measure the release angle, and the chi-square test to determine the relationship between the angle and the success rate of the shot. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between the range of the release angle and the success rate of shooting (p = 0.009). The angle range of 40–49 degrees produced the highest success rate, which was 48.4%, compared to other angle ranges. This study confirms that the release angle plays an important role in determining shooting accuracy, and certain angles can provide biomechanical advantages for players. Thus, coaches and athletes are advised to focus shooting training on achieving optimal angles and utilizing movement analysis to improve technique consistency. This study also opens up opportunities for further research involving a larger sample size and additional variables, such as throwing distance, which was not examined in this study but could significantly contribute to a deeper understanding of shooting performance in basketball.

Abstract

This study tried to probe possible differences in mental toughness between female musicians and female athletes as an approach toward better understanding the concept of psychological resilience across different performance contexts. The sample population consisted of sixty females from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia: thirty athletes coming from the Faculty of Sports and Health Education (Faculty of Sports and Health Education) and another group of thirty musicians belonging to the Faculty of Art and Design Education (FPSD). Data were collected through the use of the Mental Toughness Questionnaire 18 (MTQ18) which duly described emotional control, self-belief, motivation, confidence, and challenge. Above all other specific requisites, this instrument rated high with excellent construct and content validity in earlier studies. A descriptive comparison analysis showed that musicians were less mentally tough overall (M = 58.80, SD = 3.68) than athletes (M = 64.50, SD = 5.24). It is in the motivation and emotional control components where the widest gaps are seen-with higher internal drive and better emotional regulation among athletes. Much more slightly tilted toward the athlete’s side, the ratings of challenge between the two groups were almost identical. Results of this study support a claim that performing arts environments develop less psychological flexibility compared to controlled competitive sports environments because artistic domains emphasize creativity and expression. This study enhances understanding of the psychological rigidity of women and at the same time helps offset the gender bias that has informed past studies. Practical ramifications include the development of domain-specific mental training programs, for example, goal-setting and stress management training for athletes as well as emotional control techniques for musicians which can be derived from this study. Limitations include a small sample size based on self-reported data without subgroup analysis. More comprehensive studies with larger samples composed of different groups are required in addition to long-term studies to trace the development of mental toughness in various fields of performance.

Abstract

Injury prevention in female football athletes requires a multidimensional approach that integrates both biomechanical and psychological assessments. This research aims to examine the relationship between the quadriceps angle (Q-angle) and competitive anxiety in amateur female football players, with a focus on understanding the impact of Q-angle as an injury risk factor on anxiety levels. The importance of this study stems from the global rise of female participation in football, which is accompanied by a high incidence of lower extremity injuries, particularly among adolescents—a group that is physically and emotionally vulnerable. A total of eleven female athletes aged 14–21 years participated in the study. Q-angle measurements were conducted using image-based digital goniometry (KINOVEA®), whereas the Sport Anxiety Scale-2 (SAS-2) was utilized to assess levels of anxiety both before and after match participation. The findings revealed a non-significant decrease in anxiety scores following match play (from 35.23 ± 7.21 to 32.28 ± 8.49; p = 0.076), which may suggest a reduction in anticipatory stress after real-game involvement. Q-angle values varied widely from 9.5° to 29°, with several athletes exhibiting angles outside the normative female range of 15°–20°, indicating a possible increased risk for lower-extremity injuries. Even though a meaningful association was not established between the Q-angle measurements and anxiety levels, the occurrence of extreme readings in both areas among specific individuals suggests a potentially compounded injury risk that should be further investigatedIn spite of constraints such as a limited number of participants and the use of a cross-sectional study design, this research underscores the practical utility of low-cost, field-friendly tools for early detection of biomechanical and psychological injury risk factors. The results support the integration of dual-domain screening into injury prevention programs for adolescent female football players.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of anxiety on the results of the futsal referee fitness test. Anxiety is a mental factor that can affect physical performance, especially in situations that require accuracy and fast reactions. The method used is quantitative by giving questionnaires to participants before the fitness test consisting of several types of tests, including the sprint test, Coda test, and Ariet test. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between anxiety and the sprint test results (p = 0.052), indicating that anxiety did not directly affect the referee's sprint speed ability. However, there was a significant relationship with a positive direction between anxiety and the Coda test (p = 0.002, r = 0.431), meaning that the higher the level of anxiety, the more it affected the referee's performance in the agility test. Meanwhile, there was no significant relationship between anxiety and the Ariet test (p = 0.120), indicating that anxiety did not affect the referee's physical endurance. In conclusion, mental aspects, especially anxiety, can have an impact on the physical performance of futsal referees, especially in terms of agility. Therefore, in referee training, it is important to pay attention to anxiety management and mental readiness so that referees can perform optimally in leading the match.
