Abstract

Increasing productivity in the production line is one of the main concerns of PT X in carrying out its activities. PT X is a textile factory that always makes continuous improvements or Kaizen in increasing productivity and reducing the use of resources. This company carries out production activities consisting of pattern making, fabric cutting, fabric grouping, sewing, ironing, and packaging in polybags. With so many processes, line balancing becomes a concern in this study. Cycle time and tact time were calculated in the process of sewing long pants at PT X. The analysis was carried out to determine which part of the production line experienced bottlenecks. The results of the analysis show that there is a bottleneck in the elastic sewing on the waistband process because the cycle time in the process exceeds the tact time. This is due to limited resources in the process. Continuous improvement with the Kaizen method is carried out to reduce cycle time and increase the productivity of the process. Improvements were carried out in 3 stages by simplifying the process, adding tools, replacing machines, and modifying tools. The result shows a decrease in the cycle time of the waistband installation process from 91 seconds to 35 seconds and an increase in productivity from 51 pcs to 103 pcs.

Abstract

Inventory management must be implemented properly so that the flow of goods can be controlled easily. A large number of small sized tools and materials in the workshop of Garment Engineering major require a well-managed inventory. Moreover, the rapid circulation of their inflow and outflow also needs to be addressed well. The garment workshop managers currently only record the material flow manually in the logbook, so it is necessary to design an application that can help them achieving more effective and efficient records. This designed application contains information about the amount of workshop material inflow, outflow and their availability. There are other features which considers the number of materials needed based on the available stock. Barcode system is also utilized to ease the data input process. Usability test was then performed to the application using System Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaire, resulting in average of 63,75 from all of the respondents. That value shows that this application has a low level of usability. Where it is actually understandable since this is the first prototype for the next application developments. All of the application menu and features can be successfully running and the application also helps the garment workshop managers a lot, thus in accordance with the purpose of making this application

Abstract

Mesin Rapier adalah salah satu jenis mesin yang digunakan dalam proses pembuatan kain tenun. Mesin tenun Rapier tidak menggunakan media teropong dalam peluncuran benang pakannya, tetapi menggunakan elemen yang fleksibel ataupun kaku yang disebut dengan gripper. Salah satu tahapan dalam proses pembuatan kain tenun adalah reaching atau pencucukan, yaitu sebuah proses memasukkan benang lusi ke dalam lubang dropper, mata gun, dan sisir tenun yang sesuai dengan rencana desain kain yang akan dibuat. Jenis mesin yang diamati dalam penelitian ini adalah mesin Rapier tipe GA747 yang terdapat di PT. X. Data jumlah cacat kain untuk setiap tipe cacat kain diambil sebagai data awal penelitian ini. Terdapat 5 jenis cacat kain yang ditemukan pada proses pertenunan di mesin Rapier, yaitu, putus pakan, putus lusi, pinggiran rusak, pakan tak sampai, dan pakan lompat. Berdasarkan pengamatan, jenis cacat kain yang banyak terjadi adalah putus lusi diantara gun dan kain. Sedangkan salah satu faktor yang berpengaruh adalah faktor mesin, yang disebabkan karena pita gripper aus, tegangan benang lusi yang tinggi, gripper kasar, sisir tajam, serta gripper race tajam. Solusi dari permasalahan ini adalah perawatan dan perbaikan mesin secara berkala pada mesin yang menjadi penyebab putus lusi, dan penggantian sparepart apabila diperlukan. Setelah dilakukan perbaikan pada mesin yang menyebabkan putus lusi antara gun dan kain, terjadi peningkatan efisiensi rata-rata sebesar 20%.
