Abstract

This study aims to find out what are the students' problems in using English pronouns in using personal and possessive pronouns at SMP Negeri 15 Jambi. In this study, this research used qualitative research. The subjects of this study were class VIIG students of SMP Negeri 15 Jambi in the academic year 2021/2022. All problems in the use of pronouns have been categorized and identified, namely subject, object, possessive adjective, and possessive pronoun. In simple terms, the students face more problems in using object pronouns. This can be seen from the percentage results where the problem of using object pronouns is 35.2%, questions are answered incorrectly. Meanwhile, at least students face problems in using possessive pronouns by 14.4%.  The result of this research found that the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Jambi mostly face the problem of using object pronouns, which is the most difficult thing for students because they do not really understand how to use object pronouns.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out what is the motivation of students in terms of speaking skills in class X SMKN 1 Jambi City. This study uses quantitative methods and data collection is done by distributing questionnaires to students. The subjects of this study were 31 students of class X SMKN 1 Jambi City. The results of this study indicate that there are two student motivations in speaking skills, namely intrinsic motivation, namely motivation to be active or not need to be stimulated from outside because everyone has the urge to do something and extrinsic motivation, namely motivation that is motivational. lively and functional. with external stimuli. Thus, from the results of observations and questionnaires, this research concluded that students' speaking skills were caused by intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation.

Abstract

 The objectives of this research is to find out what is the influence of online game Mobile Legends in students’ vocabulary mastery at eleventh grade of Vocational High School Number 1 Kota Jambi. This research has done this research while Covid-19 Pandemic and did this research face to face with students. This research used quantitative method with a survey design. In this research, population of this research is students of Eleventh Grade at Vocational High School Kota Jambi and sample of the research is XI TKJ 3 class. This research used a questionnaire as a collecting data consists of 16 questions divided into positive influence, negative influence and related vocabulary mastery. This research used descriptive analysis as the analyzing data. The results of this research showed that positive influence has a higher score 654 (44,18%) than negative influence has a lower score 416 (28,07%). And, in related vocabulary mastery got score 413 (27,86%). It could be concluded that Mobile Legends have greater positive influence than negative influence in learning English, especially in mastering English vocabulary such as the students can add new English vocabulary by playing the game and they can also practice other English skills like listening, writing, reading, and speaking.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out the effect of using English short stories in reading comprehension toward students’ ability of junior high school No. 15 Jambi City. In order to achieve the objective of this research, the research design used quasi-experimental. This research took two classes, an experimental class and control class. VII B was experimental class that consist of 30 students were taught by using English short story, and VIII C was control class that consist of 30 students were taught by using non-English short story. This research used a test instrument, a reading test in the form of multiple-choice test with 20 items with options A, B, C, and D. The technique of data collection of this research used a test as a research instrument. The technique of data analysis of this research is calculation the students' score and analyzing the students' score using SPSS. The data was analyzed by T-test using SPSS for windows version 16.0. The difference. It is found that the value of sig was 0,004, at the significance level of 5% (0,05) and then 0,004 < 0,05. In this research, Ho (null hypothesis) is rejected because the value of Sig < a in significant degree. (0,004 < 0,05) and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted if the value of Sig < a in significant degree (0,004 < 0,05).  The explanation above proved that there is an effect of using English short stories in reading comprehension toward students’ ability of junior high school No. 15 Jambi City
