Abstract

Scientific work is a form of scientific publication used by teachers to support the Sustainable Professional Program (PKB) that has been launched by the government to actualize the work of teachers as professional staff. Many teachers do not understand how to make a good and correct scientific work, even though scientific work is a mandatory requirement for teachers for the promotion process. The implementation of community service activities aims to provide workshops on scientific writing techniques for teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Lubuk Dalam. The strategy used is through lecture, tutorial, and discussion methods and observation sheets to see the effectiveness of the methods used. The result of this dedication is that the teacher is able to understand the techniques of writing scientific papers well and correctly so that they are suitable for publication

Abstract

Hand soap is one of the means to clean hands from dirt, germs and other things that make hands dirty. To kill bacteria, some hand soaps contain active substances that can have a negative effect on humans who have sensitive skin, which can cause irritation. Some synthetic active ingredients that are harmful to human skin health are diethanolamine (DEA), Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), and triclosan which functions as an antibacterial. This study aims to obtain the composition of basil leaf extract with the right maceration time as an antibacterial and can produce liquid hand soap products that are in accordance with the quality of SNI 2588:2017 by varying the composition of the basil leaf extract and varying the maceration time. Variations in the composition of basil leaf extract are 3%, 6%, and 9% as well as variations in maceration time of 3 days and 7 days. Analysis of liquid hand soap products includes pH, insoluble in ethanol, free fatty acid content, surface tension, organoleptics, and bacteria. Based on the results of the analysis, all samples met the quality of SNI, but the sample with the best formulation of liquid hand soap was obtained at a composition of 9% extract (9 ml of basil leaf extract in 100 ml of soap volume) with a maceration time of 7 days. The results of the analysis showed that the resulting pH value is 8, the material is insoluble in ethanol 0.46%, free fatty acids 0.32% and the surface tension of soap is 13.52 dyne/cm.

Abstract

Soap is one of the commodities of the beauty and medical sectors that have been utilized in daily life to purify the grime that adheres to the skin. Bath soap is categorized into two types, namely liquid and solid soap. Solid soap is comprised of 3 kinds, specifically cloudy, translucent, and transparant soap. Transparant solid soap is an innovation in beauty and body cleansing products that enhances the attractiveness of soap products with its translucence, softer lather, and shinier appearance compared to other types of solid soap. The primary ingredient used in this research for soap production is sodium hydroxide and coconut oil. Meanwhile, butterfly pea is used as an additional ingredient in this study to enhance the quality of soap products, both in terms of usability and appeal. In this study, the extraction of butterfly pea extract was conducted using the maceration method, and different variations of the extract were used, namely 4 ml, 6 ml, and 8 ml and variations of coconut oil used were 80 ml and 50 ml. Several analytical tests, including pH analysis, free alkali, free fatty acids, mineral oil, water content, and organoleptic tests, were performed to determine the feasibility of this transparent solid bath soap. Based on the analysis results of the solid bath soap, the best sample obtained was formulation A2, which used 80 ml of coconut oil with the addition of 6 ml of butterfly pea extract. The analysis results showed a pH value of 9, 0% free fatty acids, 0% free alkali, 13.6% water content, and no presence of mineral oil. Keywords : transparant solid soap, butterfly pea, sodium hydroxide, coconut oil

Abstract

Abstract

Cellulose nanocrystals are a type of cellulose with a nanometer size. Sources of cellulose nanocrystals can come from plants, tunicates, or bacteria. Agricultural wastes have great potential as a source of cellulose nanocrystals. Methods that can be used to isolate cellulose nanocrystals from the main ingredient are hydrolysis methods involving the use of organic acids, enzymatic hydrolysis methods, mechanical treatment methods, or a combination of these methods. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Cellulose nanocrystals have been extensively researched and applied in various fields ranging from reinforcing agents in polymer matrices, playing a role in drug delivery systems, or other polymeric materials. This review provides information on each of the isolation methods and applications of these cellulose nanocrystals. Keywords: Cellulose Nanocrystals, Hydrolysis, Mechanical Treatment.
