Abstract

Islam came to the village of Kebundurian, the district of Gunung Sahilan through Kuntu area which is now part of Kampar Kiri. Meanwhile, Naksabandiyah party came to the district of Gunung Sahilan, the village of Kebundurian from XIII Koto Kampar regency, Kampar regency which was brought by Syekh Ja’far from Pulau Godang. The entrance of Naksabandiyah party brought to this area several kinds of Islamic tradition. One of the tradition is Tarokin tradition. Tarokin (Talkin/Talqin in Arabic word) is a guidance to say the sentence of La Ilaha Illallah that is conducted to someone who is almost dying. This guidance is based on the prophet Muhammad SAW teaching that is “Please guide someone who faces death by saying La Ilaha Illallah”. Meanwhile, for Moslem, Talkin is given for a Moslem corpse who has just been buried. This teaching is to remind him/her the best answers when the Angels of Munkar and Nangkir ask questions. Moslems believe when persons carrying the corpse leave the grave, the Angels will come and ask principal questions to the dead body.

Abstract

This study analyzes the dynamics of food security in Kampar Kiri during the Indonesian Revolution, particularly during the Second Dutch Military Aggression (1948–1949). The urgency of this research lies in the lack of studies on food security in the context of the revolution, especially in strategic areas such as Kampar Kiri. This study provides a new perspective on how the local community supported the independence fighters (PDRI) in surviving amidst the war for independence. Using a social history approach, this article explores how the local population managed food resources in times of war and economic instability. An analysis of archival documents, oral sources, and literature studies reveals that Kampar Kiri served as a strategic route for guerrilla forces, directly impacting food production and distribution. The local community developed locally based adaptation strategies to sustain food supplies and support the military struggle. Keywords: Food Security; Social History; Kampar Kiri; Indonesian Revolution

Abstract

This article examines the history and development of Pacu Jalur, a traditional longboat racing event on the Kuantan River in Kuantan Singingi Regency. Originally, these boats served as means of transportation, but over time, they evolved into a competitive event featured in a national cultural festival. The study also highlights the enthusiasm of the local community involved in Pacu Jalur, as the event is not only compelling as a spectacle but has also become an integral part of daily life. The research employs historical methods through the stages of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography, utilizing various sources including newspapers, books, academic articles, and interviews with local residents. The findings indicate that Pacu Jalur developed from a simple local tradition, gradually attracting governmental attention in the 1980s, transforming into a widely celebrated people’s festival, becoming part of Riau’s tourism program, and eventually being recognized as an intangible cultural heritage and incorporated into the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. Moreover, the enduring popularity of Pacu Jalur is inseparable from the collective enthusiasm of the community, which has been crucial to sustaining the tradition from past to present. Thus, Pacu Jalur serves not only as a cultural symbol but also as a space of communal togetherness and a marker of collective identity for the people of Kuantan Singingi. Keywords: Pacu Jalur, Taluk Kuantan, local history.

Abstract

This research explores the History, Origin, and Development of the Okura Area, which originated from Okura Estate (plantation) in Pekanbaru in the 20th Century. The study employs a historical method, relying on toponymic analysis. The method includes heuristic, criticism, interpretation, and historiography steps. the techniques for collection the data are archival study, literature review, and interview. Okura Estate is one of the relatively large rubber plantations established by Baron K. Okura during the Dutch Colonial period. The existence of Okura Estate in Pekanbaru during the Dutch colonial period (in the 20th century) reflects life on plantations during that time, the role of the Japanese in the region, the involvement of external labor and the local community, and how these elements intertwined in the past, contributing to the cultural heritage in the Okura area that persists to this day. The research reveals the complexity behind historical, toponymic, environmental, and cultural aspects to uncover the evolution of Okura Estate over time.
