In particular, this study will examine theories on digital literacy and autonomous learning in the Transactional Conversation course. The approach to be applied in this research is interdisciplinary using qualitative methods. The research design used is a case study. The technique of collecting data uses participatory observation techniques, interviews, and document studies. The data validity technique used triangulation, which mainly consisted of source data triangulation, methodological triangulation, and theory triangulation. The results show that there is a relationship between digital literacy mastery and the quality of autonomous learning. The role of the lecturer as a facilitator invites students to have the courage to evaluate the quality of their own learning.

Abstract

Learning model is one of the important tools to transfer material by teachers to students in the classroom. Until this 21st century, many learning models have been created and developed which aim to facilitate learning in the classroom to be well organized and achieve the learning objectives themselves. This research aims to analyze the implementation of Project Based Learning (PJBL) learning model in teaching speaking. This research was conducted qualitatively with Milles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014) qualitative description model. Data collection in this study used observation, interview, and document collection methods, while the research participant of this study was one of the language classes that used the PJBL learning model in teaching speaking and three language teachers. The researcher chose a sample of one class IX at SMP Negeri 11 Semarang as the material and place of research. The validation of the instrument used by the researcher has been validated by educational expert with doctoral qualifications. The research findings showed that the language classes in SMP Negeri 11 Semarang had implemented the PJBL learning model in accordance with the instrument that became the research reference in the form of characteristics and steps of the PJBL learning process. However, the researcher also found problems in the learning process that can be handled collaboratively by students with teacher guidance.

Abstract

Female English teachers make significant contributions to their field, yet stories about them are under-researched. This paper presents the framework of an ongoing narrative inquiry aimed at understanding female teachers’ agency and its role in their professional identity construction during the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on a systematic review of relevant research, the framework displays several key themes, including the significance of active learning and digital literacies, and the scarcity of narrative inquiries into female teachers. We thus argue that in order to gain insights into post-pandemic pedagogy, there is a need for studies that depict female English teachers’ agency in enacting their pedagogical competencies and showcase their continuous efforts in constructing their professional identities, despite the challenges that they face. Against the backdrop of our review, the teacher education curriculum must include course(s) on agency and identity construction.

Abstract

This study explores the role of movies as a medium for learning English among English Education students. It highlights the significance of English as a global language and the challenges faced by learners, particularly in developing speaking skills. This study employed a qualitative approach to investigate students’ perceptions of how movies contribute to language acquisition, motivation, and cultural understanding. Data were collected through closed-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, focusing on students’ experiences with English movies. Findings indicate that students prefer using movies over traditional methods as they provide an engaging context for learning vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational skills. Additionally, movies foster intrinsic motivation by creating enjoyable learning experiences and reducing anxiety associated with speaking. The study highlights the potential of film to enhance language proficiency and motivate learners, suggesting that integrating movies into English language education can improve both linguistic and socio-cultural competencies.

Abstract

The significance of English-speaking settings in aiding young learners oral language growth has received worldwide recognition, particularly in bilingual education situations. Even with the increasing interest, there is still a shortage of thorough research that combines theoretical frameworks and up-to-date empirical studies on the subject, especially within the Indonesian context. This research intends to examine the impact of English-speaking settings on the speaking skills of young learners using a library research method. In accordance with Creswell’s (2014) principles for qualitative research, this study methodically examines and integrates academic literature, emphasizing peer-reviewed publications from 2020 to 2025. The results highlight five main areas influenced by English-speaking settings: heightened motivation and confidence, decreased speaking anxiety, enhancement of social interactions, advancement in language skills (pronunciation, fluency, grammar), and the use of relevant, context-oriented learning techniques. These findings are consistent with Krashen’s Input and Affective Filter Hypotheses, Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory, and Long’s Interaction Hypothesis. The research finds that engaging and nurturing English-speaking settings are crucial for promoting successful language growth in early childhood. It also emphasizes educational implications, including the necessity for emotionally supportive learning environments, collaborative learning among peers, and contextually relevant teaching. This study establishes a theoretical basis for educators and policymakers to create improved bilingual education programs and suggests guidance for upcoming empirical investigations.
